    It was set up to counteract a projected shortfall in pensions in the future - it was known as the National Pensions Reserve Fund until it was raided to pay for the banking crisis during the economic crash post 2008.

    In short it is a function of government as they are giving very generous pensions to public servants and hoping that future taxation will pay for it is stupid - make current taxation pay and at least our children will not be left with a huge bill

    I even believe that they had to retract the orgy claim! (can't find the reference)

    But then went after them and exposed the phone hacking scandal which brought the newspaper down,
    This is still ongoing and more News Corp / Rupert Murdoch investigations are continuing.

    I recently installed MS Office 2010 on my fathers laptop

    It gave me the choice of using ODF as the default format for saved files!!!
    (I didn't use it because he needs to send files to others who may have old versions of Word for his business)

    I am an importer in Ireland and my shipping invoices now have a "Gulf of Aden Surcharge" on them, so I pass this on to my customers and so on so the good news is that we ALL pay of the pirates.

    Wouldn't the fact that there is only a very thin atmosphere on Mars and therefore very low pressure change the temperatures at which substances change to liquid?

    perhaps at -100C at these low pressures water is a liquid.

    Actually thats just from 1 wind farm, there are many others (smaller ones) around the country.
    I read recently (can't find the link) that if all the wind farms currently in planning stage actually start production (very unlikely it will be all) then they will produce as much electricity as all the other power stations put together (hydro and fossil).

    It is here!!!!
    In Ireland anyway - where insurance is VERY expensive (mine is ~2000 euro for a 1.6l Nissan Primera (1994)) they are offering discounts for carrying a black box with GPS that phones home and you _can_ get speeding tickets based on the data returned!

    What will happen next is that they will produce statistics as to how much safer these people were and make the rest of us have them. (they will be safer because people who will accept these in their cars are prople who are over cautious anyway - they are self selecting)

    I am still getting mails from companies telling me all about their new products because I had to give my address for an eval download about a year ago.

    Your company might not do this - but I don't trust you!

    I know I could set up a disposable hotmail address but this is a lot of trouble unless I really need your product.

    For 20 cents per gallon, you could subsidise a better fuel such as Biodiesel which absorbs more carbon while growing than it emits while being used as fuel.

    Also you could plant a lot of trees!!

    It might be helpfull if the number of pages viewed in the last month appeared on our user page, this would let people know how much this would cost them at their current ./ reading rate.

    As an aside this would also reduce the number of page views ./ gets - no more constant refreshing

    It would be much easier for someone to just monitor the currently known security holes and act like a script kidie to exploit security holes. There are so many unpatched machines out there - why add your own holes?

    I think it depends on the company you work for.

    Two of the companies that I have worked for had a very tight group of people and we all socalised toghther (OK went drinking together). Sometimes work is talked about. Some (not all) partners of coworkers used to join us.

    I have worked for another company where that seemed not to be the done thing to any such extent.

    It depends on the company culture

    Of course this pollution is in Massachussetts, where the cells are manufactured, not in the third world countries :-)

    However without viable business models to run off it the GPL is next to useless in the long run. Currently there are a number of companies trying business models around the GPL with varying success. If these companies stop support of products like Linux then these products will disappear from many of their current markets.

    Face it- money makes the world go around, Caldera is a company who needs to make money to survive, if it does not survive then many contributers to GLP'd code will stop contributing - employees of Caldera will move on and might not have time in new job and users might switch to closed source.

    Basically to survive I believe that the GPL must be business friendly even if this is not what it was designed for, to say otherwise is naive.

    The engine developed by Diesel originally was designed to burn vegetable oil! they just decided that a cheap by-product of petrol (gasoline) worked just as well - we now know this fuel as diesel now.

    I have seen a lit match be thrown into a bucket of diesel and it went out (note the person who showed me this was not 100% convinced that it would work! so don't try this at home folks!!!) so diesel is not that combustable.

    The point about diesel engines not having the acceleration is not a good one any more- I often drive a BMW turbo desiel (2.5l) and it has more power/acceleration than any petrol car I have driven! the technology is now at that level.

    I don't speak (or read) Norwegian but...

    If a spammer from the USA (most seem to be from there) spams someone on this list how are they going to be fined?
    Surely it is unrealistic to try a prossecution or even an extradition.
