He devoted more time to what we would now regard as non-scientific topics such as theology and alchemy, writing treatise after treatise on early church history and biblical prophecy.'

If Newton lived and philosophised under todays intellectual property reigeme we may not have calculus, especially since he has been credited as one of the founding fathers of this branch of maths. Would it be considered a patentable algorithm or process under todays US enforced laws? What would the world be like without free access to calculs?
  6. Re:Right and Wrong on British Schoolkids Get Copyright Education · · Score: 1

    Well said.

Kids are taught to share things at a very young age, otherwise the teacher punishes them for fighting over a single object. Copying is the obvious thing for kids to do when only one item exists and they have the ability to make a copy and share. Unless teachers actively punish kids for sharing songs amongst one another, then this compulsory copyright stuff will probably have minimal impact.

One thing I thought of since I've dealt with environments where games shouldn't be played (University computer labs) is why didn't he just change the permissions on them? It sounds like they were in an NT or Active Directory domain, it's pretty unlikely the boss had administrator access since this guy was the designated support person for his division (he has the policy on support personnel up too, it says one person in each division/dept. will be granted administrator access for their part of the domain tree). He could have avoided this mess and forced the issue with the higher-ups by simply changing the permissions on solitaire to be administrator only or even nobody. It's likely the boss wouldn't have pushed the issue too hard as it would make him look bad trying to get access to a game restored. The guy could have also locked access to solitaire on all computers in his division to make it a policy issue, not a direct confrontation of his boss.

That will probably be the downfall of this guy in court.

The game is due to be released just after the long anticipated next-generation Microsoft operating system codename "Longhorn", which is expected to fully support Duke Nukem.

A few simple macros, simple maths, web import funtions and I suck down 20min delayed info from yahoo.com which gives me my current financial position down to the cent. Granted I have to keep some info up to date manually, but really, excel is by far the best product for keeping track of small scale financial positions. The real key bonus with excel for me is that it is infinately variable. Beyond excel you need databases... blah... if I had a large enough cashflow I would be using a custom designed db. MS Money is a pitiful attempt to create a financial shoe that fits everyone.

Last Christmas it all caught up with me when I had an epileptic fit and woke up finding myself in the emergency section of the hostpital unable to walk. I was lucky that I only tore my back muscles and didn't break my spine from the violent jerking involved with the siezure. The only reason given to me for this fit, by the various doctors I saw, was that it occured due to my working hours and that I was pushing my body to the limit. They all told me to slow down before I killed myself or someone else. I am only 29.

Be carefull with your use/abuse of these products. It can cost you more in the long run. I was only having two of these things a day at the most.
