    The "War on Terror" is just another example of Government hating competition. The US Government is the single largest terrorist organization to ever exist.

    If you travel to and from the US, you are far, far more likely to be harmed in some way by the US Government.

    I am far more afraid of the US Government than any other entity. And I just walked through the Moslem quarter of the Old City as an Orthodox Jew the other week.

    I recently replaced a computer that was running on the original XP install for years. Only true idiots have to reinstall XP during the life of the computer. And my PC was used for gaming, browsing an all kinds of stuff. I had to clean out spyware once in a while, but otherwise I never had any problems. I only replaced the hardware because it was too old to take mult-core CPUs or PCIe.

    To reiterate: only clueless idiots, such as most slashdot posters, need to completely reinstall to maintain a performant system.

    That makes no sense what-so-ever. Why does security define a service's utility? In many non-emergency situations electricity is not available. Is it now not a utility?

    America does not have a 2-party system. We have a one-party system with 2 faces designed to appeal to most voters. It doesn't really matter whether a Republican or Democrat is elected to any one position -- the same people still have control. If we had term limits for Congress, we might get a real multi-party system. As it stands, it's literally impossible.

    The key advantage of e-voting would be an ability to personally check how one's vote is counted.

    That's the largest DISadvantage to e-voting. Period. Since you already quoted and dismissed the poster who tried to make the same point, I can only assume you are one of the most stupid people to ever exist, or you're a politician.

    If I think of ways that Jews can be peaceful, doesn't that make me more Jewish than those who think of ways to be violent? If I help Jews live in peace in the world, aren't I morally more a member of the Jewish tribe than those who think of ways for Jews to be adversarial? Even though I have no genetic, political, or religious connection to the Jewish culture, don't my caring ideas make me more truly Jewish than those who call themselves Jews, but whose minds are filled with violence?

    The Jewish religion isn't some quack like Christianity. Other than converts, you are either born Jewish or you aren't. There's no "feeling Jewish" or any crap like that. You can't just wake up one day, throw yourself into a pond and say "I believe in God, therefore I am Jewish". We leave such crap to religions that have to gain membership through murder and torture.

    Do you really believe Bush would have behaved differently than Saddam were he the absolute dictator in Iraq? You do realize that's exactly what he's been trying to become since he started the war under completely false pretenses, right?

    It's not acts of any one sort that make someone completely evil. It's evil that causes one to act. Bush doesn't need to kill his own citizens at home to keep the people in line. Americans are so f***ing scared of their own shadows that Bush only has to invent bogeymen.

    Who could I vote for that would actually be elected that has any sense of justice?

    The president and most of Congress are traitors to our country. There is no longer a Rule of Law. Instead, we have a kangaroo legislature that rubber-stamps any and all attempts to create a police state.

    People forgive Apple because Apple doesn't force you to buy upgrade parts from them. If Best Buy or Fry's were selling Apple upgrade parts for more than PC parts, we'd call them idiots, not transgressors.

    Do you have any idea what kind of markup the Unix workstation (HP, Sun, SGI, etc.) used to charge for memory or disk?

    If by "These two code branches" you are referring to NT and Windows 9x, you are off by a release. They merged with XP, not 2000.

    Religion as an explanation for existence is fairly poor. Religion as a way of life, however, can provide a solid basis for society.

    The religion that forms the basis for Western Civilization is more than a collection of stories. There is a complete legal system attached that is a core of the religion. Just because Christianity purposefully removed that part does not make the entire religion a relic of history.

    On Windows, I use the system settings dialog all the time. Windows doesn't come with a simple calendar app at all (not even Unix's cal), so unless you happen to have Outlook or something of the sort, it's the only way to check.
