Uh, astalavista.box.sk is located in the USA on a Sprint backbone. Try tracerouting it once in a while. It's owned by www.boxnetwork.net. People buy foreign domains all the time and host them in the USA.

No kidding. My cable modem data light blinks non-stop now. Fortunately, the router is blocking anything to port 80. But from the way data is pouring in, i would figure it to be several scans per minute to my cable modem.

Actually, a telnetd security hole affecting just about every OS on the face of the earth was found. It's a remote hole than can be used to gain root access (or whatever user telnetd is running under) and run arbitrary code. The URL is http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/197804 It's a major exploit. I suggest everyone shut down telnetd until a patch comes out.

  8. The cause.. on EFNet on the Rocks Again · · Score: 1

The cause (from what i gather) is that opers were splitting servers in order to gain OPs in some chans. This is deemed as 'breaking the rules', and someone decided to take matters into their own hands. One of the people admitting to doing it on the forum said it's being done becuase of "abuse operators." It's a shame this is happening. Some people don't appreciate a free service.

AOL is making the claim that this is just like what happened with netscape and IE. The software that will be bundled with XP is _not_ embeded into the kernel like IE was.
