    Competition is what GPL is against.
    What would I want to invest tons of money in making sure that my product is superior to anything competition might create when as soon as I release it they will be able to incorporate all my hard work into their code at no cost?
    So what if I can do the same ? If they don't have any meaningful features I can take it is me who lost because my product now is no different than anything else on the market, despite the fact that it was me who innovated here.

    What do you do for living ?
    If it is programming then be afraid, the day your rights to your code are abolished it will be the day your work has no value to anyone ( or should I say, the fact that you did that work has no meaning to anyone)

    How about Gas Company having right to access your installation in order to prevent/fix any emergencies?
    Do you think their right to do that expires when you leave that house and new owner can kick them out and endanger whole neighborhood?

    All they are saying here is that if they go out and install some of their equipment on your property they should have a right to access it even if you are no longer owner of this property.

    The problem is that this institution is not run for profit and therefore has no accountability to anyone.
    If they were forced to compete against other schools you would immediately see improvements (for one money would be spent more wisely)
