My new rule of thumb is to do the opposite of everything the World Health Organisation recommends. The swine/bird/*insert animal here* flu scares made me skeptical, agreeing that it's not clear that cell phones are safe (despite many studies that disprove cancer links and there being no known mechanism for low-energy EM radiation to harm living tissue) was the last straw.

The day they announce coffee might be bad for you, we'll know for sure it's safe.

Only Windows RT doesn't run legacy code. Windows 8 on x86 and x64 runs everything since DOS 1.0/Windows 95 (x64 dropped 16-bit executable compatibility).

Windows 8 might have problems, but backward compatibility sure isn't one of them. Even if Windows RT ran x86 code, I doubt any current or near-future ARM processor could handle it at a decent speed.

N9 owner here. The software itself isn't at the same level (at least with PR 1.2) as it currently is on WP7 (and Symbian probably), but the maps are the same and you still get:

    - Offline maps (online maps are also possible)
    - Turn-by-turn navigation with text-to-speech (with multiple voices)
    - A real distinction between pedestrian and car routes
    - A satisfactory POI collection (probably not as good as google, though)
    - Accurate maps
    - Favorite locations can be synced with Nokia Maps for the browser

On my Windows 7 desktop, uptime is ~1 month, usually being shut down for updates only. For battery reasons, my laptop's uptime is much lower.

It would've been as easy as having ~20 people do some spot checks of Apple's maps vs. Google's (which tend to be accurate). They'd compile a nice list of places to double check (say, with Nokia/Navteq maps). Have a similar group do the same for the turn-by-turn navigation.
