I'm not interested in speed because if you have your PC setup properly then it will always be flawless, at least it is for me.

What I am interested in is image quality, sound quality, DTS decoding, good multichannel support etc etc

I'm sure mplayer will get there eventually but I'm just saying I would find it quite neat if with Lindows I could just fire up WinDVD. Unfortunately that would be quite some feat and is'nt likely to happen.

Intervideo have had a bit about LinDVD on their site for ages, I wonder when we will ever see a working version.

The state of DVD playback on Linux is not what it is on Windows. Maybe Lindows along with the Linux DirectX equivelant libraries will allow Windows software DVD players to work?

I watch DVDs all the time and find it annoying that Linux doesn't have decent DVD playback. Hmmm maybe I should help write one...

I guess they don't have time to pander to individuals own special ways of doing it.

One thing though: they might just be getting at people that they acctually detect using multiple machines simultaneously.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how they do the detecting bit.

Hmmm but if they are looking to see if there are multiple machines using the cable service by checking for open ports, established connections and examining packets etc then they can maybe tell that there is only 1 machine connected through another machine.

But then again could they tell if someone was using the NATing machine ?

Could someone who knows how they would detect this activity please explain maybe how they could?

With a 60Gb Disk sitting on a spare machine on a 100Mbit switched network I just use FLACs because its open source and available for Linux unlike Monkey Audio Compression:

    Marilyn Manson.flac = 75% of original
    Moonlight Sonata.flac = 42% of original

I just tried encoding Kosheen - Catch.wav at 64Kbit using Lame and Ogg with all other settings optimal. The Mp3 did'nt even come close to the Ogg. The Ogg was obviously gonna be a bit tinkly at 61Kbit average but the Mp3 was all muffled and horrible.

Direct Connect - The must be around a PetaByte by now. Good search options, DivX heaven.

AudioGalaxy - Just Select your Track, Select your bitrate, Queue them up and leave it running.

There are probably more and I'm sure you're all familiar with them.

Our house has a loft which is always absolutely freezing, especially in winter. If I were wanting to keep a room cold then I would use a big fan installed in the ceiling to pump cold air from the loft into the room.

Alternatively I could do the same on the floor as there is a meter of empty space underneath our floorboards which is ventilated to the outside air making it very cold.

What I do disagree with is invasion of privacy. Fair enough the law forces can use a warrant where they have a reason to investigate a particular person but I don't agree with trawling through millions of mail accounts in the hope they may find something.

Seriously, if the terrorists are smart enough to commit this act with such coordination without the security agencies knowing about it then they must have used encryption or other methods of communication.

Often disguising a message is better than using encryption anyway. I could send a message saying "I can't wait for Doom 3" which could be a signal to do something else. This was used alot in WW2.
