Purely theoretical. But it only stands to reason that if you put as many wind farms off shore as are planned in Germany (one example), you may actualy affect local climatalogical patterns. The legal issues therin would be very interesting. If such a situation transpired, an injured party could get a court to broaden the legal definition of pollution to include such events, thereby putting renewable energy up for serious criticism.
Just as wind farms in Europe have reportedly altered local weather patterns, would not sapping energy from the sea change the fluid dynamics in areas near endagered choral reefs, etc.?
It sounds silly (as was intended), but the more I think about it, we may look at renewable energy very differently in twenty years. From the long view, renewable energy sources like wind and wave may be much more environmentally sound - but far from the assumed perfection.
The legal questions here are similar to mineral rights cases of the last century. If your neighbor installs a wind farm near your property and suddenly your natural bird sanctuary is ruined, can you sue? We know from case law that it is legally hinky to divert a river onto your property no matter what your purpose (even generating renewable hydropower). Wavegen may have farther-reaching effects on the surrounding environment, slightly ruducing the amount of oxygen in the water, endangering wildlife by changing the way the tides play out in a given hydrosystem.
Most series degenerate after the first three books or so. This one lost its fascination after the original and only lowered past that. God Emperor was okay, but Children wasn't even worth the tree meat.
If people don't trust paper ballots, what will they tryst? But in the IT community, the response to these failures will always be "well, you didn't use the unix flavor I use" or "you didn't tweak it right."
Security is always a matter of perception. If an election server is secure, but people don't believe it- it may as well be wide open. Think of the reduction in violent crime in recent years relative to public perception.
Not at all. Even though it may look like a gimick, it certainly is not. A map of Antarctica is a perfect non-gimicky metaphor for the oft-confusing structure of a world-wide network of data.
My company is now working on a game for the head-based controller. It's called "Corporate Ladder" and it works like this:
You're a corporate peon, trying to work your way up to the top. Like dancing games like Um Jammer Lammy before it, Corporate Ladder rewards the player for nodding at appropriate moments. Nod when an up-and-coming exec is talking and you get points. Nod at the wrong guy and lose big. Get to the top and you can present ideas as well. You better hope they all nod for you! A network mode will be available Q1 2001.

Perhaps it is rash to assume that all 3rd party candidates would be more amenible to the idea of space exploration.
Nader would demand that the space vehicle be fitted with airbags and anti-lock air brakes, making the project too expensive to work.
Buchannan doesn't know what life forms may exist in the cosmos, but he already mistrusts them. "They'll work cheap and take away American jobs!"
Haglin doesn't think the government should be in the business of funding space exploration. Re-arrange the wording to emphesize the monopoly the government has on space and you may have something. I think we have a winner.
Tomorrow- candidates prepare for "Loser Leaves Town Night" in St. Louis
This is the unfortunate result of any cultural shift, revolutionary or evolutionary. Some jackass raises his hand and claims to represent an undercounted group of people who are "one day going to stand up and start running the show."
Whether you like it or not, Katzie is going to going to write another book (with some of your ripped-off posts in it, no doubt) and claim to the mainstream media that he holds your reigns.
If anything has changed culturally in the past twenty years, it's that young people recognize that flavor of BS when it's being fed to them.
Every four years, someone claims to know the "true heart" of the elusive youth vote. But just because they're young, doesn't mean they will vote. And if this year is anything like cycles past, they won't bother to. So, if the youth don't vote- is there really even such a thing as a "youth vote?"

OSX is definitely a buy-a-new-Mac phenom. If you bought the Rhapsody BS in 1996/7 (as I did), you are SOL. If you want to keep your PPC hardware alive, Apple is not the company you want.

I can't think of a single LucasArts purchase I didn't regret hours later. Dark Forces=clippy DoomII-era engine + zero story. It was a "Run. Shoot. Flip the switch." game in a time when most development companies had moved on.
I'm genuinely curious. Which of these games are supposed to be "good?"
Just a theory.
