  1. Re:How unusual is this? on Europeans in Western China, 1200 B.C. · · Score: 1

Second, let us think a moment about the SilkRoad, a road of trade between China and Europe during the MiddleAges. No Chinese people were coming to Europe, and no Europeans were doing business in China. Who else was then doing the trade and the exchange of products between Europe and China? It was the Arabs, who were a veryadvanced civilization at the time.

It is however very possible that Islamic traders of the Middle East, Anatolia, etc were of European descent. The Ottoman empire for instance contained people of many ethnicities, and in fact "imported" TONS of Europeans (circassians, Armenians, slavs, etc) for government positions, positions within the janissary corps, etc.

But these mummies predate this time, do they not?

The Etruscans are believed to have come from the East--mongolia, the steps, etc. They seem to have definitely oriental characteristics, and representations are showing having slanted eyes.

    as for kyro...again we'll see.

don't forget things like HSR--there are lots of tricks left to reduce bandwidth, but agreed, that is the major bottleneck right now.

I own an Nvidia GeForce2 right now. I used to own a 3dfx. 3dfx had great support under linux ad was easy to use. There's no doubt 3dfx hasn't been a serious contender for awhile, however don't forget that even in the months leading directly up to 3dfx shutting their doors, 3dfx cards dominated in retail. A question I have is why do people think it's ok to be able to use AIM servers for free? The AIM windows client has a tiny advertisement on it. I imagine this makes up the money they spend on servers.

What do the open source clones give to AOL? Why do they DESERVE to access AOL's server? AIM servers do cost money to run, it's not free to operate.

Why don't the clones make some sort of advertising agreement with AOL--similiar to in the windows client. I would not be surprised if AOL would accept this, and it seems reasonable to me. Of course given the nature of most OSS users, i imagine the advertisements would be hacked out in seconds, and then the castrated version would be distributed--maybe that's why this option hasn't come up?

What I don't understand is why so many people say that this is clearly the US's fault, and that the US should clearly apologize? From just about every news source I have read, military experts from around the world say that the chinese scenario of the EP suddently swerving into the smaller and faster chinese jet is ridiculous.

The pilot of the particular jet has even had a history of doing hotshot manuevers such as coming up from beneath the splyplanes directly in front of them, giving them a jolt--a move perfected by the soviets originally. So we have a slow lumbering jet on AUTO-PILOY! and a small, limber, and fast jet being flown by a hot-shot--where do you think the fault lies?

The US has offered to help look for the downed pilot--the offer of help has indeed been extended several times, and has been rejected several times by the Chinese government. If they really cared about the downed pilot, wouldn't they want all the help they could get--I know I would? Instead they criticize the US government being too cowardly to apologize. Apparently having the US kowtow to Beijing is more important than the life of their downed man. But of course they also work the Chinese public up to frenzy over him, thanks to the Xinhua government owned news agency and other propaganda machines.

So in short, I see no reason for the US to apologize for an accident that almost definitely wasn't their fault, and especially to a government whose actions reek of insincerity and sheer politicing as much as those of the communist chinese do.

By refusing the promotion, you're basically saying that you don't want to accept managerial responsibility, and want to continue on grunt work.

To a company, grunt work is easier to find than managerial talent. Managerial talent is what makes money, what makes the company work. By refusing the promotion, it looks to the company like you'll forever be a gruntworker--a dead end investment if you will. What in 5 years would make you worth more to the company? nothing. in fact, you'll probably be worth signifigantly less due to loss of knowledge and skill compared to the "young" crop of that time.

As a manager, you might have been good, you might have continually been promoted, and have been a great aid to making the company work--which would have been worthwhile, thus the promotion. As is, like I said, little chance of you personally increasing the companies value.

my condolences on your job if you do get fired, this situation is not right, though I do think I see where the company is coming from

If machine recounts are more accurate than hand recounts, why was there a difference of 1400 votes after the second machine recount? Sure as hell doesn't sound like "two votes in a million" to me. If you watched the 3 people in broward, you would realize they were not counting votes, they were casting votes. Time and time again it was heard "it's only slightly indented, not detached at all, it's got to be a no vote--overruled, vote for gore". That's how the dems votes increased, what amounts to out right cheating.
If hand recounts are less accurate than machine recounts, why are hand recounts ordered by law in case in dispute in both Florida and Texas, as well as most of the other states?

Laws that never were expected to deal with these punch cards. As a side, isn't it interesting that all of the republican counties use the inifinitely more reliable optical scanners? Kinda wierd that the counties where the dems are counting on votes from also have dem control and maximum potentional for fraud. How easy is it to stuff the ballot box when you're in a roomful of extremely partisan observers from the other side? Do you think the Dem's are ripping out chads right under the Republicans noses?

Well, considering there's good evidence it happened, not hard.

How can Gore have "clearly lost" the hand recount when the recount wasn't allowed to finish? Do you think shipping in goons to harass election canvassing boards into calling off recounts is an acceptable outcome in a Western democracy?

That counties board voted not to continue. Plain and simple--the recount so far and test recounts had uncovered no discrepancies either.

The woman who certified this vote, and who has consistently attempted to block all attempts at hand recounts, is Bush's co-campaign chair in Florida. How can this be allowed to happen? Do they not have conflict of interest laws in Florida? Further, her job is due to be slated out of existence at the end of her term, which means she's looking for work. She'll get a plum appointment in a Bush administration, maybe even an Ambassadorship. Is this the way we do elections in America? Sounds more like one of those new Russian states making it's first attempt at democracy.

And the state supreme court that illegally changed standards in the middle of the counting has how many democrats? 6? 7? No conflict of interest there.

Why are most of the optical counting machines in Florida in Republican areas, where the shitty old punchcard systems are in place in Democratic strongholds?

See my above fraud response. I hate to say this, but down the line, democrats in the US have a horrible history of cheating. From the most horrid examples such as the Nixon election (where he honorably conceded) to this president election with it's democrat manufactured votes to where dems were giving away cigarettes to homeless people.

Ever wonder why dems misvote more than republicans? (it's historical and verified). I say it's due to dems pulling people to polling places and telling them to vote for. If you don't believe this happens (and I've seen it often) then you need to get out more.
