I wouldn't mind getting one of these and sticking it on my living room coffee table for the guests and drunkers that come over and try and use one of laptops while I'm working. (come-on man, lemme check my hotmail!) I got the whole network (cept for the gaming rig) setup on the wireless and I don't want to run ethernet back into the living room after I just got rid of it.
The thinking that software developing doesn't need any time to create something. This causes the engineers to cut steps, like design and analysis. And unit testing? feh. I wish.
Any merchant that won't except my CC if I have disputed charges doesn't deserve to get my business anyway. Besides, it'd cost twice as much as it does for address verification of CCs for the merchant to have his merchant account check for disputed charges.
You've been watching too much 'Lone Gunmen' haven't you?
Port the slashcode to an entertainment site please

I have to say that seeing movie reviews on Slashdot disturbs me to no end./. is a technology site, it makes ZERO sense for JK to put forth effort on something that is OFFTOPIC for the entire site. Why not create an entertainment site using the slashcode and give it a homepage box like exoscience and such. Then you can get hits by people who want to know all kinds of entertainment things and you get the revenue from the entertainment focus. Having it on slashdot is so far from the 'techie' reason I come here.
AOL won't switch to Netscape any time soon because so many web sites aren't supporting it right and their users will be miffed. A miffed AOL user isn't pissed at the browser, their pissed at AOL themselves. They can't surf the net without crashing, they'll just go without.
from the FCC announcement: We do not require the AOL Time Warner software to read and interpret all the data it receives or to make that data comprehensible to its users.
That is specifically talking about IM software, which means they won't have to let MSN's IMs get to AIM users. Sure, they can develop a standard protocol, but they don't have to let YOUR data get it's users.
The mp3 player came around too soon after the MiniDisc so picked up one of the first RIOs instead. With all the MP3s I could download, I never had a reason to use the mini. What are the PROs and CONs of each platform, maybe that will tell us if the mini is dead or is doomed in the long run.
You should really read the page at the link in the parent post, they replace the water with a chemical that doesn't freeze but attains the state of glass (which is a liquid) so there are no crystals to destroy the cells.
I see the point about it not doing well, but most of us/.ers go and see movies that not everyone will see (or understand for that matter).
I think it'd be interesting to see what square does with the technology born out of this production. Would they draft up a dozen white papers and license out the technology (could help recoop for a poor box office turn out) or would they just open-source the whole shbang? I mean, yea, it's highly unlikely that they would, but it be pretty cool to see what a couple geeks with a nice size beowulf cluster could churn out.
They give us a little taste of the tech talk with the character page about how the clothing is done, but I want to see more!
You want to talk underappreciated? Try being an HTML coder who has to work between marketing, graphics and the true programmers. The programmers are worshipped cause they make stuff work, the marketing types are worshipped cause they bring in money, the artists are worshipped cause they make the brand look good, and there's no love left for me.
I'm moving more into the world of true programming, but I'm considered a bastard child who does HTML, and any 'hyper-intelligent' trained monkey can code HTML. But ya know what? Only a good monkey can code it right.
It's for this reason I've considered changing to a whole other field, game development. I got a review coming up and we'll see the salary goes up or I go elsewhere.
The watch is the Timex Datalink, which you can get more info about here
I've owned 2 of them and it works quite well (cept that I use WIN2K at work and they don't mix) with CRT screens or a notebook adapter that costs more than I'm willing to spend. It's handy for those of us cheap skates without cellphones or pagers or PDAs.
Anyone got one of these to work with 802.11B?

There another thing the dot.coms left behind.

If you read the article, you'll discover that it doesn't actually limit you to a bike pump, but uses it as a point of reference.
There doesn't appear to be any real definition as to what you can and can't use to pressurize it.

That should be exactly what your looking for.

I surf for porn from work, not the library.
Damn good point though, the question is, how do we turn this bullet train around and if we don't where do we go from here?
