I don't know what idealistic planet of the industry you live on, but here on planet Earth, I see all kinds of developers who take shortcuts because the target audience supports X or Y. The point is that the target audience for most websites DOES NOT include you.
I personally would sit in meetings over the project timeline, and I'd get told I have half the time to accomplish the project and we'd figure out what we could do to shortcut the project. Usually, the first thing that goes is QA time for unimportant browsers, which up until recently, included Mozilla. Mozilla is still less important than IE to the project owners, but they are beginning to warm up to supporting it.
It's a simple fact of real world design, IE is King.
Someone is going to assassinate one of the MPAAs/RIAAs CEOs. If we were willing to do so to stop the agenda's of politicans, why wouldn't we do so to the corporations that are trying to get all this power?
Personally, I'd hate to see something like this happen, but terrorism is going to move from religious beliefs to fighting back for our constitutional rights.
They just won't listen to us and someone is going to snap at some point.
Be careful, the Symbol CF 802.11 doesn't work as advertised with the Zaurus. The pricer version, made by Socket Communications not only works with it, but it also sucks up less juice.
BTW, I didn't say the Symbol card won't work, just that it doesn't work as easily as they say it should.
... if you've already got a privacy policy for your site. P3Pizing (or 'pethripizing') a complex site can evolve into a Herculean task...!
How is this so difficult?
I converted my companies privacy policy (quite detailed) to the needed p3p files using the tool IBM has available in under 2 hours with no prior experience.
The concept isn't that hard to understand, am I missing something that would make this so hard or time consuming to do?
This is a linux box without storage, so you get data from a foreign server and display it somehow.
This sounds like a terminal for a mainframe. Technology seems to run full circle, huh?
This would let me VPN into work, SSH to my dev machine and do my job and test the results via browser. I could get rid of the laptop in my living room!
Actually, I think they are aiming for those with knowledge (thru schooling) but only a passing interest. If you look at the material, its not presented in some technical manner. Not to mention that the hints & tips are REALLY obvious. The really elite won't need those hints & tips and wouldn't need flashy animation and posters to attract their attention, something formatted to Neilsen's standards would do nicely.
While your downloading a file, it's immediately made available for upload from you. It uses resume download to download parts of the file you want from multiple sources, some of which don't have all of the file yet too.
Not at all, I'm saying that they don't need 4 different instant messaging programs and all the free downloads from ZD-NET. Every time I have had a problem (even on my winME box), I have traced it back to a conflict with one of the programs I have downloaded. The latest explain was the drivers for my scanner. As soon as I uninstalled them and cleaned the registry of the related entries, it was running fine. I updated my drivers and it works fine now. That was just the last time it happened.
I've had similar problems with OSS I've downloaded onto my Linux machine and similar techniques resolved those conflicts too.
I think the biggest problem people have with crashes and lock-ups is all the stuff they install on their PCs. All the support files that get installed can cause quit a mess. Regardless of what OS you use, you'll run into software conflicts of one nature or another by installing too much stuff or installing software that was poorly written.
Those of us that -do- computers for a living know how to get around these conflicts more so than those who -use- computers for a living.
Because you can simply give all anonymous posts a -1 and filter them all out. Check out your 'Comments' preferences, their's all kinds of fun stuff in there.
I have to agree with this, I enjoy shows/movies the best when they don't try to teach me a lesson and just tell a story. Thats what the medium is all about, telling a story. A few good examples that comes to mind are Way of the Gun, American Beauty and Seinfeld. They didn't teach me anything but I thoroughly enjoyed them all.
I wish the television networks would realize this and encourage the writers to just 'relax' and quit preaching.
Buffy and Angel have followed the same pattern and I stopped watching them for this reason, it just wasn't entertaining anymore.
primary desktop PC in bedroom,
experimental machine (always formatted, changed, etc),
linux web server to host friends websites / cvs server,
secondary desktop used in music studio room for burning/streaming/DJing,
primary laptop for working late (via VPN) or just casual surfing while I watch TV,
secondary laptop (with japanese keyboard, hehe) left under couch, so common guests can check their e-mail,
and my new iPAQ on the coffee table to let people check their email.
Laptops are hooked up via 802.11, business class DSL (cause we don't quite need a T1), all my extra 'parts' are in 3 large rubbermaid tubes.
Hardwood floors, and the room has both windows cracked at all times of the year.
I've got my iPaq on the wireless CF card too and plan to put the PS2 on the network soon (or I'll just get a XBOX)
Still pretty funny if you have any clue how Wil hates to see his name misspelled, especially when it looks like it's coming from Bill.

Any self-respecting comic shop should carry a good bit of anime, J & SB's probably does too.

You're implying that us geeks would ever have the chance to use such a line.

This is all good, but IANAP (I am not a Physicist), can someone explain how this is working or point me to an explaination?
Wow, I didn't even notice the ad until you said something.
...
Hmm
does that provide a clue to whether these forms of Ads will or won't pay?
I think so.

The article makes valid points, but thats not my question.
Isn't the point of HTML to do formatting? couldn't we of gotten -some- formatting in that article? It's just plain text. I feel like I'm on a BBS.
Thats exactly how eDonkey2000 works!

You make a black & white assumption. This is a very very gray area.
Its not a matter of being for or against the blanket term 'digital rights management', it's a matter of application.
If it's an offshore server, how is it governed by the laws of the US? Isn't that the point of it being an offshore server?
I beg to differ, the deep link does not work. It's redirecting as well.
The pictures are still fine.

That the pictures of the watches used on the site are computer generated images?
Are you sure it was the one thing or one of the main things?
This appears to do graffiti when I use it. It has another method too for those familar with the Newton.
Reminds me of something Microsoft once did.
Well, here's my setup as it 'be'.
I have 7 machines on my network.
primary desktop PC in bedroom,
experimental machine (always formatted, changed, etc),
linux web server to host friends websites / cvs server,
secondary desktop used in music studio room for burning/streaming/DJing,
primary laptop for working late (via VPN) or just casual surfing while I watch TV,

I blow entirely too much money.
Wasn't there a show on UPN with Hulk Hogan in some stealth speed boat with missles?
