I'm sorry, but unless you're a corporation with good lawers and a long breath you probably won't have any chance getting the domain back without paying the squatters what they want you to. I've seen this happen to so many domains. In a way, these domain farmers are parasites and no better than the ordinary spammer. I get really mad when I see another one of those generic pages that are packed with advertisements to even get additional revenue. The only way this could be fought would be to make it more expensive for these companies to register domains.

  4. HSDPA or UMTS capabilities? on Open Source Linux Phone Goes On Sale · · Score: 1

Currently, I still live without a mobile phone, though a phone like this one could get my interest peaked enough to buy something like this. The only thing is I'd really want HSDPA or at least UMTS as this is becoming affordable in germany at this time and provides for nice data rates. Are there going to be phones that support it and running OpenMoko in the near future? If this project was not in Alpha status, this would be the knock-out criterium.

You cannot "simply" ship a game stand-alone. Most of the modifications, and even if they are total conversions, still rely on a considerable amount of data shipped with the original game. Before a game can go stand-alone, you have to re-create all that data.

In fact the Linux kernel itself has had support for many of the capabilities quoted here for a long time now, already starting with kernel 2.6.4 when they basically started to push dm-crypt in favour over cryptoloop. Probably not nearly as much stuff to click on as with TrueCrypt, but there is cryptsetup and the LUKS project which aims for similar goals.

The point that has been made, that I shouldn't have looked into the logs in the first place is a valid one. However, curiosity got the better of me. The question now is: Why was this possible for me in the first place? Teachers are no system admins. If the log file is available to one dedicated person only, it is okay. But all teachers looking over the shoulders of other pupils and their colleagues, do you agree with this?

The computer room is intended for those with no cheap access to the internet. This will also include private surfing which will educate you in responsible use of the internet, like participating in discussion forums. You cannot tell me, that it is legitimate for a teacher to literally spy on these interests while trying to educate children to respect the privacy and opinion of others.

..it worked just like that at my old school, too. Especially with teachers there are always those who don't like computers. So "we" created a user account under the generic name of a teacher and thus had access to several administrative features that only teachers were supposed to have access to. The irony is, we found out about a log file that logs every visited web page, +username. One of the unpopular teachers even revisited pages students had visited minutes ago just to look at what they were looking at, effectively spying on "our" privacy. It is not as if I had ever visited pornographic content. It just makes me feel uncomfortable knowing that "they" know what I surfed at.

  13. Water Cooling? Great, but expensive on Silent Water Cooling on the SLI · · Score: 3, Interesting

I had a Geforce4 once but that one just broke down exactly 2 years after buying it, there was so much dust in there the fan wouldn't rotate anymore and i didn't notice. And blowing through the ribs of the processor cooler i regularly managed to have dust clouds shoot out at least 5 meters.
The fan for the processor broke twice, luckily the amd thunderbirds seem to be able to withstand extreme temperatures. I live downtown, so there really is alot of dust.
That's when I decided to switch to water cooling. I just couldn't be arsed anymore to do all this cleaning stuff every 3 months and fearing the next component will die the death of heat because i fail to notice a fan is broken.

I am having water cooling for over half a year now.
I cool my cpu, and AMD64 3200, mainboard chip and GT6600 card on an Asus A8N-SLI board with water. This means, i effectively got rid of three noisy fans and replaced them with two big and quiet ones for the radiator. Combined with a good power supply, it is simply amazing how quiet the system is compared to the earlier setup, if I don't look at the LEDs I frequently fail to notice the system is running at all. No cleaning anymore of the fans and coolers, which is a huge relief for me (better than switching from ball mouse to optical mouse) and I have a handwarmer now in wintertimes (got to play some 3d heavy stuff though ;) by just touching the radiator.
The downside is that it can turn out expensive and you can spend much money on it. If you buy the right things, it is very unlikely water leaks out, the biggest danger comes from a broken pump. Considering that I had many failing fans in my environment before and already broken hardware as a result I'm willing to take that risk, so yes, I would do it again if I had the choice.

For instance, the Quake3 mod Padmod which can be found here http://www.worldofpadman.com/ has astonishing artwork while at the same time being without blood and from the concept suited for children (it's still fun for adults though). Unfortunately, the MOD does not have many gamers right now - one reason for this is certainly the ban on quake3 itself. With a seperate build one can now circumvent this ban which will hopefully bring new users to mod projects like these.
