Seems like all the major distributions now are either solely KDE based or a KDE+Gnome combination. Anyone know of a Gnome only distribution? I currently use Fedora but I am concerned that Redhat doesn't have much focus on the home desktop market.
From what I understand, the patent is on a way of storing long filenames with the FAT filesystem. This first came out with Windows 95 and is implemented in a backward compatible manner.
Basically the issue is this... in FAT there are a fixed number of bytes to each file entry in the directory. It is only enough for 8+3 character filename. They could not just expand on this data structure because it would not be backward compatible. What they realized is that if you created a filename with the system, hidden and some other attributes set, the old versions of dos would never display the filename. So what they do to store a long filename is create multiple file entries each storing a few bytes of the long filename plus some additional data to piece it together. Basically in a old version of dos, these extra file entries would never be displayed but in windows 95 or newer, it would read and maintain both the short filename entry and the long filename entries.
Sometimes a precise mathematical analysis can lead to startling insights. Perhaps there are multiple solutions equally optimal. Perhaps it gives a general algorithm that works for other shapes.
Bionic Commando was such a unique platform game because your character couldn't jump. Instead he had a mechanical arm you could swing out and grab on to things. You would have to grab the wall or ceiling to get around the most basic obstacle but over time playing the game, you would learn it and it becomes second nature. Some instances you had to grab things while falling through the air or do a grab-swing-release move to travel forward. The graphics in this game were top notch... I really which Capcom made a new version.
IF Pantone is patented, shouldn't it expire within 17 years or so? I used to recall pantone colors existing in the mid 80s since my dad used to own a printing press company back then.
I just wait for the local paper to have subscription special for $10 to $20 for a one year subscription. When it is about to run out, you subscribe to another special from a different company.
I was reading an old book on X Windows the other day and the naming came something like this:
Stanford had an operating system called V where they developed a windowing environment called W. MIT needed such a windowing environment for the Athena project and borrowed the W system from Stanford. They made so many improvements over time that it no longer resembled the W system so they named it the X Windows system. Over time 11 versions were developed as more and more Unix companies got interested. But by then MIT had its needs met so an X Consortium was formed that developed the X11 system from revision 1 to 6 reaching the X11R6 release that we have now.
If you could copy computer hardware for free then that would happen also. That is why these people pay a ton of money for the hardware and then pirate the software.
Perhaps it is a good thing we don't have enough nukes to change to rotation of the earth.

They will combine SkyOS and .NET to form SkyNET.

It is a burried spaceship where they froze Sculley.

A medical transcription company outsourced its core business of transcription and lost control over the details. Now they pay the price.

That is one heck of a badge from the picture they show. I was thinking of the little triangle pin-on from Star Trek.
You mean those 5-1/2 drives could not be used as suppositories? How do you think Mr. Goatse got the way he is?
I think Mono is supposed to mean monkey in Spanish and we all know Ximian used primate names for everything they do.
With some resistors and DB9/DB25 connectors.

And why is it hard?
Maybe not pitfall but many other games had few levels or different screens so they had to make it very hard to have long enough play value.
I'd guess that due to piracy, not much except to large corporations and the government?

"I wonder how much it would cost to fully arm it?"
I would guess it would cost about 5 years in camp X-ray.
Microsoft compares the GPL to a virus. I guess the Windows source is like a virus in more ways than one.
When I saw the title "King Rat" I thought this was another SCO story.
