I couldn't have agreed more than what have already been mentioned under this thread. I would add that instead of pointlessly forcing Microsoft to un-bundle or provide options to install other browsers, why not just standardize the damn thing? How many websites out there are still "best viewed with IE6" and simply refuse to work with any other browsers other than IE?
I know this sounds ambitiously large in scale, but what's the point of having installed, when the damn website only works with ActiveX shit.
It will become self-aware on April 19, 2011 and will begin its attack against humanity on April 21...but hey no worries okay? We're gonna be saved by one John Connor in 2029.
I'm getting a mental image of a boardroom full of executives forced to read the policy out loud at gunpoint by a sysadmin that's gone postal and insists no one will get hurt if they just read the whole thing.
Don't you think something is wrong here with the policy if no one is able to read through it, let alone embracing the policy it is trying to convey? I have long ago given up the idea of that company executives might be interested in reading any documents longer than 5 lines.
If the purpose is to raise awareness, instead of long-winded policy document which spans over 150 pages and 10 appendices, why not just create a series of short, to-the-point, funny (and witty) messages to be made available for reading while on the go?
I personally find posters with information security messages work best in areas like pantries, lifts, and yes, even washrooms.
Most people believe that Windows is synonymous with computers. Being the consumer sheeple they are, they're going to go with what hits their wallet the least—especially in a depressed economy.
Or they will just start exploring for alternative like...Linux.
I want to thank the author for this great news! Boy, I can't even begin to tell you how excited this is going to be! I switched to Linux many years ago since there weren't any decent anti-virus program out there. I am now going to make the switch back to Windows. Finally! Yee haa!
Should have sold it back when M$ was offering $33 a share. It's kinda pathetic he had to beg M$ to buy now. I don't think he has done enough "plan B" for Yahoo as a company. It doesn't take a genius to predict that regulators in US won't be too happy with this kind of merger with Google.
The last few companies I've worked for make it mandatory for new employees to sign an AUP (Acceptable Use Policy). Sorta like a blanket coverage for all IT services, including networks usage. Depending on how large the company you're working for, you might be able to convince your HR to get all the existing employees to sign, too. That way you can avoid getting the employees to sign another document/agreement if you should implement new IT services.
probably one of the best tools ever developed for open-source / security community.
I've got a bad feeling from this whole Check Point acquisition, especially with the major revamp in http://snort.org/.
Thankfully there's still http://nessus.org/....wait. Fuck!
There isn't any mention of what this 'trojan' is called on android Market. Am I reading too fast from TFA?
$1B is much less than the 37% that Nokia lost in stock value since the rumour of the "cooperation".
I want whatever you're smoking
Insightful? I don't think so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_urban_areas_by_population http://esa.un.org/unup/index.asp?panel=2 It will be interesting to have a poll on how Slashdotters have been to China. I am rather surprised that many Slashdotters have traveled to many places of the world http://slashdot.org/pollBooth.pl?qid=1863&aid=-1 and yet the misconceptions. As an Asian born and bred here, I am always amazed at how some American friends of mine have the concepts that some Asians are still living in the cave or on the trees (the most common questions that I get).
The Devil made me do it.
nmap -sS -O 10.0.0.0/8 > handover.txt
for either Keanu or Will Smith to be busy that week.
Why is this rated funny? I would rate you insightful if i have any mod points.
Never log in as root! Sudo exists for a reason, kids.
Like for this http://xkcd.com/149/?
Sorry, couldn't resist.

It's a quote from a movie... ;)
It's from the movie Office Space, from a character named Michael Bolton.
It will become self-aware on April 19, 2011 and will begin its attack against humanity on April 21...but hey no worries okay? We're gonna be saved by one John Connor in 2029.
I'm sure if you ask them to, they will.

Hint: Don't post the exact same thing in multiple places. If I had mod points, both your posts would be modded redundant.
I think that most people that read news about IT don't use IE already.
I work for Microsoft, you insensitive clod!
640k should be enough for anyone.

One way pagers did exist, and so did cameras, but they required this non-digital stuff called "film"
What kind of "film" did you use in your pagers?
No I think the "pager" used a carrier pigeon.
I think you're referring to this http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1149.html
"...Microsoft have announced free anti-virus software for consumers, dubbed Morro, available ..."
You misspelled moron...oh wait!

I am still confused. Where's the car analogy for this case?
