Just played and the gameplay is almost identical to the original mario brothers. 1 screen, shit comes at you from all sides whilst you try to acheive a goal. It is certainly a cool idea, but that style of gameplay bores me in around a minute.
I work in this business but the trick is really really really, i can't stress this enough, don't buy a cheap printer. I'm suprised how many geeks completely ignore this part of their system, they'd sooner put neon lights in the case than get a decent printing aperatus.
if you're looking to print anything, get a laser, they're built better, and cost less per page. if you must have ink jet, consider a draft printer or commercial quality high volume inkjet, i know HP sells an inkjet with a 60+ Ml black cartridge, that's a lot more than the 19 ml ones they give you in the cheapo consumer units. did a little research and here's a list of printers starting at 150 bucks that use 70 ML black cartridges.
also worth noting, don't refill the cartridges for canon or epson printers unless you want to be replacing the printer shortly, it's like putting a bit of suger in the gas tank at every fill up.(hp's the print heads are disposable so it doesn't matter as much, and lexmarks aren't even worth mentioning)
My old school palmpilot works great still, 2 weeks of charge on 2 AAA batteries, only downside is 512k user memory, but then again, mine doesn't lose my data, and the user interface really hasn't changed in almost 10 years...
fuel cells always seem to have vague and bizzare press releases. looking the company you can see what they do, but not what they make or how in hell to get them.. for instance, this article talks about a bike you can't buy, no mention of how much one would cost, nor where you would fill one up, except to mention that you can get a hydrogen generator the size of a shoe box(where? what? who makes it?) and they say the power for this bike is the CORE thing, but google doesn't know a thing about this core device. so heres my challenge to fuel cell manufacturers, make a fuel cell, say 1kw, and a hydrogen generator powered by tap water and standard household power, sell it as a kit and let me use it! i would happily buy one if i could 1. find one 2. find a hydrogen generator 3. have any clue how much it would cost
I just went and took a look see at the USB gadget device driver page, and it looks like in fact, master/slave is set set set in hardware, and that little bit of software is for embedded devices that run linux and have slave style usb hardware. So I guess the answer to this ask slashdot is no, there is no possible way to hook up his laptop as a USB hard drive.
firewire != USB. mac fanboys: yes, firewire drive mode is great, but has nothing to do with this problem. he wants a way to access the files over USB. I looked into it myself when i had a bad case of mac envy, but usb is a master/slave model, devices are classified either as masters, or slaves, not both, and as far as i know, 2 of the same type are not able to communice via the usb protocol. it looks like the above poster has software to allow a server to emulate a slave device, but firwire is more of a peer to peer technology, and any device can issue command to any other device, which is why it can implement tcp-ip over it.
p.s. i wish USB were more like firewire, as i've always wanted my pda's (palm or ppc) to be able to use other slave usb devices (really just joysticks) but alas...
The real reason they lose money on 60% of movies is not that they don't want to pay taxes, it is that they don't want to pay ROYALTIES. the goal is to make it look on paper as if they haven't made any money, so that the writers, etc. don't get any money out of the deal where they have negotiated a percentage of the profit. if the studios can show on paper that they didn't make any money for the studio they can pay the guys who created the work little or no money. in that vein infrastructure sorts of things, like building a new studio, or escorting an executive to a party in a limo full of Laker girls gets billed to one particular movie, so that movie doesn't seem to have made profit.
would it be possible to change the M.A.M.E liscence from gpl(or whatever it is) to a version the explicitly forbids this guy from ever using either the source code or binaries, then sueing him if he ever tries to, you know, use mame? I can just see it now:

This software is free for use by anyone other than David Foley who is a fuckwit and is not allowed to use this software in any way whatsoever. Everyone else have fun!
It could be so much worse, i've friends who work smashing animals in the head to observe blunt trauma injuries to the brain. sometimes the first wack kills them, if so, they chop up the brains and record the data, if not, they let them heal and do it again.
ALL credit reporting companies are like that, i tried to contact chexsystems once about a bounced check( i was out of the country at the time, didn't get the notice that my account was overdrawn) so, chexsystems decides i'm a theat to banks for bouncing a 20$ check 2 years ago, blacklists me from banks, i pay the bill, and the bank claims they will notify chexsystems that its paid. 3 years later, i've written, emailed, gone through their web system, called them (good luck!) asking A) for my data, and B) has it been noted as PAID. websites broken, and no response from mail of any form. but one phone call from a bank and BAM, "i'm sorry but your in chexsystems, goodbye"
p.s. on the bright side, i'm good friends with the check cashing guys at my local mexican grocery, and its actually WAAAAAY cheaper to just get everything cashed there than it would be to deal with fee's from a bank.
not to mention that taxing the gas makes sense because, generaly speaking, more effiecient cars are LIGHTER, and chew up the roads less. so the actual wear and tear per gallon of gas to the roads is about equal.
becuase i check there every week to get the last weeks episodes of my favorite shows. sure, i'm a week behind, but its not as if mind numbing television is time sensitive.
I use firefox and k-meleon. K-meleon on my dog piss slow machines, firefox on the fast ones. my goal isn't to have the fastest possible load time, because in the end, the pages load faster than my eyes can switch from looking at the address bar to the text down below, so who cares how long it takes, if i can't percieve it? btw, on my laptop, FF loads the 6 home pages in under 8 seconds, and i bet you MOST of that time is spent fetching ulr's.
my friend bought an lcd tv with extened screen protection at compusa, it broke, boxed it up, brought it in, first thing out of the comp guys mouth was, "its not the screen is it? because our warranty doesn't cover the screen..."
same here, my main pc is in the closet, and i vnc into it over ethernet to do any real work from my laptop, the only thing my laptop is light web browsing and playing movies(streamed off of the server of course.) only real problem is i lose windows becuase i forget which desktop i left them on!
what did you get? I just purchased a ipaq 3115 that has wireless and a nice dpad, but still find it very cumbersome. what really needs to happen is for someone to make a decent bluetooth controller for it....
don't feel so bad, i had this deal myself for awhile, untill i realized that the upload is capped at about 3 gb per month or something like that. sure, its fast, but i worked out that if i were running a server, i could only average 15 KB/s without going way over my bandwidth limit. ( I switched to speakeasy dsl)
linux is available in serveral flavors for both ppc and x86. so, the answer is simple, who prefers to run linux on mac hardware over generic x86 boxes? i think the answer is that most people prefer cheap hardware.

I did the same going through some of my families old stuff. a bunch of those little metal fireboxes with locks, and we had no keys, but the hinge on the back was just a little bar of metal holding the two pieces of box together. I took a piece of coathanger and a hammer and tapped the hinge rod out. problem solved.
some are just cut and paste, telling someone like Kid Qoala that he's just cutting and pasting other peoples music is like telling nasa that they're just cutting and pasting chunks of metal...
whoa there buddy! now, just tell me what kind of music you like, and I'll find you something sampled that will blow your mind in how they reworked it... I agree that most samples are just taking the beat and melody and resampling over, but there is in fact new ART being produced using sampling/mixing, most of which never makes it into the mainstream... sad fact is, most people prefer boring rehashes to new, innovative use of samples, so, send me an email with the music you like, name a few bands/composers whatever, and i'll find something genuinely new for ya.
My mom told me about how she used to watch the nuculear (ok, i misspelled that bad) bomb tests out in nevada, and how her dad( who took her out there) loved to watch them go off, but it left her with such a feeling of dread, even as a 6 year old child. oh, did i mention they watched them all from sacramento, even though it was over 400 miles from the test sight, she said it made the night sky glow when it went off.
my friends and i found an old Len cd( quite possibly the worst band ever) "can't stop the bum rush" from 1999, we dug it outa someones garage put it into the cd player, and were amazed how bad they were, It was like those propaganda films from the 40's about the Japs~ blatantly obvious now that the label was telling these kids how to sound, but at the time, a cd with metal, hip hop, techno, and pop was just a testament to how good this band was? i hear it now and i realise how fake it sounds... now i download a single song at a time and don't get to be led by the riaa. to bad 14 year olds still look for someone, anyone to tell them who to be...
