"The wars of the future will not be fought on the battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today remember always your duty is clear: To build and maintain those robots. Thank you."

Quick question for CmdrTaco (or anyone who knows the answer...)
On the picture of your MAME box, there's some kind of plug (?) right about the top four button of the control panel (I circled it in red). Just out of curiousity, what the hell is this thing? A power cord?
Remember the whole eFront fiasco from a few months ago? Well, eFront did the same thing as UGO is trying to do: in order for webmasters to get back to their domain names, they had to forfeit 5 months of backpay, and agree not to sue eFront at any time in the future. As far as I know, a lot of webmasters agreed and signed the contract in order just to get their domains back quickly, as one weekend eFront blocked out all webmasters from updating their sites for "security reasons".
Looks like UGO is on it's way to becoming a member of Pud's list...oh wait, nevermind...Pud has an article that UGO just bought Bla-Bla!. Sheesh! Rough times indeed...
Which doesn't make much sense, actually. Ten digits allows us to represent eleven numbers (0 through 10) so we should have a base eleven counting system. But for some reason, the ancients decided to roll over at ten even though our fingers don't. And, no, it's not because they didn't understand the concept of zero. This is an issue of when to roll over, not what to use as a place holder. The way we write "10" also requires zero as a place holder.
The reason for this is that the number "zero" was not discovered for many centuries. It was the Mayans who first used the number zero as a base unit of counting (but they didn't popularize it...I forget who did).
Perhaps someone here knows the answer to this question:
If I had WinXP installed on my machine (activated), and my hard drive were to suddenly die, how would I go about activating a new copy of WinXP? For if I were to install in on a new hard drive, it would still be listed as "already activated" in the Microsoft database. Is it going to be a major hassle proving that this isn't a second computer I'm installing the OS on?
eFront sends out Cease and Desist letters....
on
eFront From Inside
·
· Score: 4
As you can see, eFront's "legal department" is sending out cease and desist letters to anyone who is hosting or linking to the ICQ logs. Wonder if Slashdot will be hit by one?
If you have read the logs, you'll know that in a previous situation, eFront simply copied a cease and desist template off a web page to send. Look's like they've done it here as well.
* It's not signed by a person (but was sent by email? what was the email address in the relevant headers?) A lawyer would sign his/her name. or perhaps the current efront legal dept. consists of Sam in his boxers and a google search for cease and desist letters.
* It starts: "We are contacting you on behalf of eFront Media ("Company")." Umm, but I thought this letter was from eFront? Sam is obviously using a letter from a law firm writing on behalf of a client w/o having changed the relevant parts of the letter.
* "The unauthorized break-in and continued distribution and dissemination of this data violates the Federal wiretapping ***statues***."
With no citation to the relevant "statues".
* "The FBI office of Orange County is currently investigating"
There is a LA and San Diego division offices of the FBI; there is no office called the "Orange County Office." See: http://losangeles.fbi.gov/contact/fo/la/territory. htm
The rest of the letter is just crap, especially: "In addition, we are requesting that you shut down the entire forum for Efront, due to the criminal investigation and the illegal actions that have been conducted with the reading and gathering of such materials."
For Windows users, there is a program called Idcide that will block out 3rd party cookies from banner companies, such as the ones this article talks about.
There was an article about this program a few months ago on Slashdot. I've been using it for a few months now, and love it. The only drawbacks are that it's for Windows/Internet Explorer users only (the Netscape version is in beta testing now).
Yeah, I should have been more clear on that point. I have a lot of respect for Gore's legitimate interest in the IT sector, not just BS'ing it.
I just mentioned it because it seemed that the statement "Gore created the Internet" was used as the biggest fodder for trashing Gore. While it was an exageration, it wasn't that bad.
Perhaps it wasn't mentioned because it was already announced and discussed last week?

Could anyone explain the significance of this IP address to me?
Thanks.
Hmmm.....good guess, it could be. I was thinking it might be an infrared port?

I know this sounds stupid, but basically the differences between the 3 *BSDs are:
FreeBSD - simple installation
NetBSD - portable
OpenBSD - secure
That's pretty much what it comes down to, I take it?
You get 3 days to moderate. If you don't see anything you like today, wait until tomorrow.
And suddenly, a whooshing sound was heard as humor suddenly flew over someone's head....

What is that last clause supposed to mean?
How pathetic.

Is it just me, or are all those italicized, bolded words in the the posting, blurry to anyone else?
Or are my retinas starting to detach?

Is it just me, or does Microsoft's homepage not render properly with Kmeleon?
And upon further viewing, Hotmail doesn't even appear at all.
Is this just me, or is Microsoft complete non-standards compliant?
