Of course users are innovators. There is no better person to tell you what would be better in an application or interface than people who use the software day-in and day-out.
I am not talking about your average users though, like Grandma etc..
I mean power users. For example, I am an expert at AutoCAD as I have been using it since its inception, and other CAD programs before that. By the time I was in highschool I was teaching other students how to use AutoCAD version 9.
I have made many suggestions to autodesk based on my useage of their app. While I think its incredibly powerful, its only now begining to incorporate some useability "wishlist" items that have been desired for many many years.
I will concede however, that many of these features require the maturity of the application and the savviness of the developers to reach a certain level before being implementable. I also feel that hardware needed to be there - such as good video cards.
Finally, I also feel that we just have not "gotten it" yet with just about every interface. I have yet to use some interface that is entirely smooth and "intuitive" (functioning as I would desire it to function in a manner that feels entirely natural). This is a pretty obvious statement though, and I know that many applications have their shining points.
As an example, there are aspects of AutoCAD that just kick ass over any other application ever used (by me) - and there are aspects of Softimage and Maya as well that are stunningly fluid, while others are exceedingly obtuse.
If I were an application developer who was worth his salt, I would be seeking the most active users of my applications and solicite their feedback to a much greater degree than simply 'Focus Groups'...

I have about 20 Laptop LCD screens that I would love to be able to use, but it looks as though you need to get a $200.+ controller for these screens in order to use them as "monitors"? Is this true? Is there any cheap/free way to put these things to use.

For example, I created an email: dmv@[myhomedomain].com so that I could have the DMV of California email me, and I would know if I got spam that it came from them.
I received several emails and letters from the DMV head lawer for me to "cease and dessist immediately" from using DMV as I would be infringning on their right to "defend their BRAND"
I told him how, as a public office, I did not feel that he had a brand, and that since I was using it only for the DMV to contact me, but they were adamant that I stop using it as an email alias.
I actually submitted this issue as an ask slashdot, but it was rejected...

This is a cool service, but farking expensive. I would only use this when on a work flight where I can expense the cost. Thats a months worth of DSL in most places.
I'd rather stick to playing games on my flights - the only problem with that is that I usually end up bringin 5 extra batteries for my D600, which adds up to a few pounds. and games like HL2 on this machine mean I have to change the battery much more often.

I am not a wireless engineer, so i dont know what frequencies are suitable for for what distances etc, but you should have one range for high-bandwidth medium-long range. (such as the spectrums mentioned here)

Next you would have less bandwidth, more available channels and medium range. Finally you would have short range, medium badnwidth limited channels.... (bluetooth etc)

I would think that you might be able to have a 'locale specific' PPU, say one for each leg. In the example of the Segway if you could build all that logic into an ASIC and give each leg an ASIC PPU that can calc its balance independantly when its the only leg supporting the weight, and in parallel when both feet are touching the ground....
also, to learn from games, the PPUs could take data about the PROPERTIES of the objects in the world around them, and determine how to better balance.
e.g. if the machine saw that it was about to place its second foot on a pile of cardboard boxes - it would recognize the properties of the boxes and not attempt to calc the footing in maintaining balance.

The human mind is already exactly this - a visual google. We have a DB of contextual knowledge that is accessed and triggered through a few sensory inputs - smell, touch, sight etc...
here we could have a robot that could 'see' be able to get contextual information based on what it is seeing.
Say you have it walk into a room - and the room is filled with a bunch of objects, the AI could scan the room, then determine approproate courses of action/manipulation for each object. It would see a chair, and could then receive instructions on how to sit in it. How to use the sink in the corner etc.
As long as these AI share a backend DB, when one robot learns to use a thing - that knowledge could be shared and associated with all like-things. So even though the chair looks different than the original seed chair, the useage is always the same - such that all contextual information would be attached to all images that match the criterion.
The next step - is modifying the "definition" of an object, based on the need or situational dynamics.
A chair in one dynamic is used for sitting - in another its used for climbing up higher - in another a even a weapon.
The real value here is to be able to pull contextual information from Object based reality, as this is a leap for machine AI to do what the human mind has mastered.

The plane crash theme is significant in its commonality, and therfore lshould be observed more closely to see why. If we beleive all the FAA statistical data about how planes are orders of magnitude safer than other forms of transport - I think we would find that the statistical risk here is quite incongruent with national averages.

The people we see here in this list is interesting in the fact that I hold that it would be damn hard to find any other (except one) family tree which has the density of political figureheads (significant political figureheads) in it. Most people I have discussed this with have started out with the same argument "You dont show how removed these people are" or "you can trace the relationship from anyone to anyone if you trace back far enough" - while these two comments, simple enough, seem to throw the "conspiracy theorist" label at me - and will quite effectively re-close the minds of other readers who would be on the verge of not wanting to look too deep, it does not hold up when looked at statisticaly. The density of political names within this tree IS significant. It is also significant the fact that this is one family tree that goes directly back to european royalty.
When you look at the statistics of those who have been in charge of this country in the light of the TYPE of government that has been put in place (a representative democracy - do not confuse our country with a democracy) you can see that this actually a little odd. Through putting in place a representative democracy, the actual vote of the "people" is abstracted from final decision making process. The representative group in effect in only given the consultation of the people on the overall trend of the political conscious landscape. Which if looked in the context of the Stern Father vs Nurturing WorldView, we can see that the overall conscioussness of the country, can be skewed through several tactics.

When a large US company is in business, there are certain practices and standards they are held to. They cannot actively have an explioted workforce and they have financial tracking requirements (SOX/COBIT) etc...

You obviously know a lot more about this than I, but what are you saying; that there is *not* a benefit to a CPU that can do physics specific calcs in a bipedal bot or there is?
I would think that you might be able to have a 'locale specific' PPU, say one for each leg. In the example of the Segway if you could build all that logic into an ASIC and give each leg an ASIC PPU that can calc its balance independantly when its the only leg supporting the weight, and in parallel when both feet are touching the ground....
also, to learn from games, the PPUs could take data about the PROPERTIES of the objects in the world around them, and determine how to better balance.
e.g. if the machine saw that it was about to place its second foot on a pile of cardboard boxes - it would recognize the properties of the boxes and not attempt to calc the footing in maintaining balance.

There was a story about searching for information based on images. We have seen this a ton in Anime, robocop etc - where the bot looks about a room and the silohette of what he sees is analysed and a decision is made about the object. read more about this in my comment in this thread here:

The human mind is already exactly this - a visual google. We have a DB of contextual knowledge that is accessed and triggered through a few sensory inputs - smell, touch, sight etc...
here we could have a robot that could 'see' be able to get contextual information based on what it is seeing.
Say you have it walk into a room - and the room is filled with a bunch of objects, the AI could scan the room, then determine approproate courses of action/manipulation for each object. It would see a chair, and could then receive instructions on how to sit in it. How to use the sink in the corner etc.
As long as these AI share a backend DB, when one robot learns to use a thing - that knowledge could be shared and associated with all like-things. So even though the chair looks different than the original seed chair, the useage is always the same - such that all contextual information would be attached to all images that match the criterion.
The next step - is modifying the "definition" of an object, based on the need or situational dynamics.
A chair in one dynamic is used for sitting - in another its used for climbing up higher - in another a even a weapon.
The real value here is to be able to pull contextual information from Object based reality, as this is a leap for machine AI to do what the human mind has mastered.

I think it would be interesting to PPUs in use in robotics. Maybe these devices can give better balance sensors - or provide intrinsic abilities for robots to know/sense how to navigate and interact within the world.
Shouldnt mechs use this to create highly mobile bipedal motion with a good ability to balance in chaotic environments (fast paced combat)

well, in response to you and the other who claims that I stretch the truth, let me qualify my post a bit for you.. it was late when I did it, so;
Yes, what I am trying to show in these posts is several ideas:
1. that after the operation paperclip which the US assimilated Nazi scientist (usually SS) into the intelligence body, we can see how some of the philosophies of the SS and Nazi's in general thrived in the super secret, well funded CIA when there was little actual oversight to the "How" of their work.
and that now the US is seeing how this choice has affected the US on all spectrums as the mindset brought into the US at the highest levels has seeped through to our political and judicial systems. Placing us a subtle coup of character, marching us towards a repeat of old and terrible mistakes.
2. That the bush body (and yes I am aware of clintons list as well) is rife with mysterious deaths, usually people close to the family who would have been in a position to know something come to suspicious deaths. The plane crash theme is significant in its commonality, and therfore lshould be observed more closely to see why. If we beleive all the FAA statistical data about how planes are orders of magnitude safer than other forms of transport - I think we would find that the statistical risk here is quite incongruent with national averages.
3. anyone who hands down just ignores the fact that the majority of the political whos who of the US can be found in this family tree is just fooling themselves into comfort as the reality of the ruling class upon them is too much for them to admit that we are, in fact, still fealty.
Yes, you are right I didnt cite how far removed these people are - I actually do cite this in my full length write up on the presidential cousins, but the only copy of which I had was on a board that is currently offline - so I posted the straight list.
The people we see here in this list is interesting in the fact that I hold that it would be damn hard to find any other (except one) family tree which has the density of political figureheads (significant political figureheads) in it. Most people I have discussed this with have started out with the same argument "You dont show how removed these people are" or "you can trace the relationship from anyone to anyone if you trace back far enough" - while these two comments, simple enough, seem to throw the "conspiracy theorist" label at me - and will quite effectively re-close the minds of other readers who would be on the verge of not wanting to look too deep, it does not hold up when looked at statisticaly. The density of political names within this tree IS significant. It is also significant the fact that this is one family tree that goes directly back to european royalty.
When you look at the statistics of those who have been in charge of this country in the light of the TYPE of government that has been put in place (a representative democracy - do not confuse our country with a democracy) you can see that this actually a little odd. Through putting in place a representative democracy, the actual vote of the "people" is abstracted from final decision making process. The representative group in effect in only given the consultation of the people on the overall trend of the political conscious landscape. Which if looked in the context of the Stern Father vs Nurturing WorldView, we can see that the overall conscioussness of the country, can be skewed through several tactics.
Finally, I can prove that I have been writing about this subject since before Moore came into the limelight as a tool of the propaganda machine. If you arent aware of this widely known and well documented effort by the US here are some primary highlights;
After WWII the cold war quickly took hold. (in fact it had begun even before WWII ended) The Nazi's and the Japanese held some pretty horrific experiments. These experiments were done on human subjects and yeilded an incredible amount of data on human psychology, biology, behavior and many other areas. In fact the modern 'Good Clinical Practice' (for documenting drug trials and testing) was fundamentally started by the Nazi research arms.
The research done by the Axis was horrific yes, but it was research that was highly valuable - just a disgusting way to go about getting it. This research was desperately sought after by the Russians and the US. (the research was across the spectrum from tech r&d to biopharma and human psych and behavioral studies)
The US and Russis began competing heavily to get ad keep Nazi researchers. Typically the US would grant asylum to researchers to come over with all their research. The US was rumored to give the Nazi assimilants new identities - many times they were brought over as Jewish refugees. These people came to the US and were absorbed into the SOS - which evolved into the CIA.
The CIA has spent decades being built up around the data and framework derived from the Nazi and US intelligence research during the war. CIA intelligence activities not only continued, but intensified after WWII.
As time went on the lines between political, civil and clandestine organizations and roles and influence blurred. A perfect example of this blurring and blending of archetypes of thought is in the long and varied carreer of George Herbert Walker Bush. A political child, he had a military service record in WWII, had his father use family connections to set him up with oil business in texas and used the companies as CIA raid points into Cuba. (when he was elected to Vice President he had a SEC filings for the CIA tool companies destroyed). He served as Ambassador to the UN Head of CIA and VP and President.
His policy when in the CIA was one of disinformation and secrecy.
