managing large amounts of information like that is a problem for many people - which is why we need an RTS that allows for real-life grouping. i.e. one commander who gets an interface tailored to organizing the different battle units. one guy gets a battalion of tanks - another commands the infantry - and all their move are coordinated through the commander. and you can have multiple groups on a side. so in a MMOCSS (combat strategy sim) you will have many groups on each side - and then you could have a general who can guide all the battle groups. maybe even have people dedicated to resource management as well.

why cant we do this with TLDs? why not just have a redo of all the sites that are out there - and they would have to have their content evaluated for which TLD it belongs in. then you can have local censorware taht just blocks out all TLDs that the "save the children" types dont want accessible in their home etc.

this would also make it easier to "protect" pub access terms like schools and libraries as they would just not be allowed to go to www.big-tits.xxx

anyone that hosts "adult" material in a TLD slated as "pg" can be fined and blocked. it really is a simple solution (maybe not to reform all them sites - but to architect) - and would be doable in a years time. and then we wouldnt hafta worry about all the save-or-children (TM) crap from all the hillary's of the world on this issue any longer.

one point about spammers who robot'd your email off your web page 3 years ago:

its not just the spammers that are a core part of the problem - its companies and services like hotmail. Example:

I went travelling for 5 months through south east asia, and as I was backpacking through the region email was the best way to get in contact with me - but since I was going to ahve no permanent computer - any attachments taht were sent would have to wait till I got home for me to be able to d-load them and view them. but since I was still getting them - I needed a place to store them.

so I opened up a hotmail account just to forward my crap to so my primary box didnt fill up. I *NEVER* gave this address out to *anyone* - I just used it as a temporary dumping ground...

apparently M$ made my addy available to everyone - and shortly after opening the account it was filling with about 50 spam messages a DAY.

so - the problem isnt just with spammers who can get your email from your website - but service companies doing nothing to protect your privacy from spammers. so much for ms' anti-spam initiative :P

I said something very similar in another /. thread:

Ihave a thought on the email aspect of this in regards to spam. is it now possible - or some sourceforge project should be made that creates a series of "PO Boxes" within your email...

basically you should have certain boxes that are designated "PICs only" and you give out this addy for pics to be emailed to you. It should parse the attachments and allow .jpg .gif etc attachments only to that box. plus you should be able to manually add rejection rules which will parse the body of the message for keywords like: "sex, make tons of money fast, your advice etc"

and you should be able to setup "disposable" addresses for certain vendors for a certain amount of time - like "fotomat@pics.myemail.com" and fotomat can send you the pics for a period of a week or something before that po box is closed.

basically the addy wouldnt necessarily be encrypted - but you would have time-out capable, vendor specific boxes. maybe your primary addy could be encrypted ao that they could not figure out the address - and the sub-addresses would be receive only. and the servers would be able to determine the difference between a sub address or po-box - and a primary encrypted addy. then it would auto drop any mail sent *from* a timeout/sub mail box.

another option would be an easy way to setup a vendor specific email addy that you could give out to a vendor. the email address would be formatted as such: x10@mydomain.com - so that this would be the email that you give to X10. any mail sent to this address would have to be from the domain @x10.com - otherwise it would auto bounce. then they would not be able to sell the addy to other co's as it would be useless from their domain - and you would have to enable this addy in your mail client before it was valid.

    1. when I was 17 I was caught by the cops with both a fake ID and my real ID on me. I copied the state ID in autocad and printed them out on a high quality plotter. We took the picture with a standard polaroid camera - and a friend of mine was able to "obtain" the plastic sleeves for the ID from the DMV which had the state symbol and "over twenty-one" embedded in gold letters in the plastic. When I was caught with it - the cops thought that my VALID ID was the fake and kept testing me on the information on both IDs... it wasnt until I asked them why I would possibly have an ID that said I was *under* aged that they believed me.

    2. I lost my CA drivers license while travelling abroad - I came back and got a new one. The state of CA recently changed the DL's to include "better fraud protection" and added some new distinctions to assist ppl in determining a valid ID. I have had ppl think that it was a fake - beacuase they hadnt seen the new additions yet - and had to compare it to other IDs just to do things like get into a bar - or get a drink. Let alone do something as dangerous as flying - or purchasing a device of self defence.

The biggest issue with fakes is the 95% of the time the person checking the validity of the ID is a complete idiot. I think one of the largest problems we will have with the "anti-terrorism ID" is the the majority of people will assume that Mr. Authority is a genius and Mr. Terrorist is an idiot - when its prolly the reverse.

But hey - there is nothing wrong with a national ID, we should have implemented this ages ago - say, like when McArthy was around. If we had done this then - we would have ensured that there were no Communists in this country and we would have all been that much safer from "the bomb". See where not tracking those Red Bastards got us?
