    It looks like it's licensed under the NWL (No Whining License) that will force you to 'not whine about this product or any other products from BitMover, Inc.'

    I doubt this could qualify as an free sofware license... Several kernel developers warned Larry that this would make the software opensource but not free. It's sad that he released it in such conditions anyway.

    WinFS (still vaporware though) = ReiserFS 4
    XAML = XUL

    We'll see but there's nothing to get so excited at the moment.

    Well, the field were France research is the most advanced is mathematics, and, as you know there is no Math Nobel prize.

    However, check the Fields Medal palmares, one of the highest distinctions in Maths, you'll see french people in 1994, 1998, 2002. And the price is given every four years.

    I wish I had mod points. You're right, both sides are needed.
    Not just because of the importance of keeping languages alive
    I just read an article that correlated the use of a local language (as opposed to english mostly) with the vitality of the local research.
    That is, the more you use your own language for research the more your research field is "creative" in your country.

    It's just a complete OpenBSD ripoff.

    This could hardly be true:
    $ strings $(which ftp).exe | grep -i copyright
    @(#) Copyright (c) 1983 The Regents of the University of California.


    OpenBSD started as a fork from NetBSD in 1995. So this code comes probably from a Berkeley UNIX derivative (which is legal from a BSD license point of view) but not OpenBSD.

    In case a security hole is found for your app you would this would compromise the entire system. Only allowing small chunks of non lockable memory is much more secure.

    Security holes _will_ be found (some have been found already see the url spoofing). And some firefox users specially non-savvy ones (a portion that will grow as firefox goes mainstream), will not upgrade.
    Spywares will exploit this

    Actually, it works fine with FF 1.0/Linux and fails to display properly with FF 1.0/Windows, so I guess it's not related to the market share :)

    Definitely, it's one of the best computer books I've ever read.
    However the title is misleading, most of the concepts found inside could be applicable to Windows/J2EE/Assembly ;) programming environnements. Take it like a case study of successful and elegant programming: UNIX and its tools

    XUL is nothing more than an XML file describing its interface, javascript for events and CSS for aspect.
    Firefox extensions XPIs are nothing more than little XUL apps.
