    What do they actually do? I'm just curious what the governments do in an attempt to keep you from it.

    Same as they do if you have your car licence taken from you.

    A judge says "Dont go on the internet" and if you get caught again for a similar crime, you get serious pound-the-in-the-ass prison time.

    There's no need for elaborate IP tracking or anything.

    Dumbasses tend to re-offend anyhow.....

    I've been labouring under the assumption that a DVD was just the media that held the movie.....

    Hey, I remember that.. You used to be able to get it to move alon a curve that had keypoints defined like:

    curve(or whatever)(0,0,0,0,10,1,0,0,20,0,0,1);

    If only i could remember the name of that app.

    BTW : Props to the POVRAY Team.. Been tracing since my old 286 days, initially using Vivid and DKBTrace.. Love POV, still use it...

    Who needs stinking GUI's????

    I don't need to pirate anything....

    Most of the photoshop/3ds fanboys you see around don't have legit copies of half the software they use when they say 'Linux doesn't run (app)....'

    I also like to see what my computer can do, not what it can't do.....

    To this day, I cannot fathom why MS would care what the users of their software were running in their boxes (eg MP3s or DVDs)..the whole DRM thing is a bit strange to me..

    They did release something many moons ago (I think it was PhotoPaint).. I still have it on a CD here.

    Biggest POS ever....

    I hope this one is better, as I have a customer I want to cut over to linux.... they are running WP for DOS on win 95 boxes at the moment, using schedule+ from win 3.11 for a collaborative calender, back-ended to an old Novell Netware Server... arrrgh..

    Maybe that's what they were using?

    All you need is a light/dark transition for it to work out the speed.

    And no NASA techniques are needed to calibrate it :-)

    Yeah, my university has a similar licensing agreement with Microsoft. We get unlimited copies of all Windows versions, all Office versions, and I think a good deal more (haven't needed them, so haven't checked). Of course, we upgraded to that license because Microsoft threatened to sick the BSA on us if they didn't. We were pissed off at the time, but it's actually been a good deal for us in the long run.

    There is something seriously disturbing about your post. Plese re-read it and explain how it is a good deal..

    I read it as 'we were forced to upgrade our software at a co$t or the vendor will sick the lawyers onto us.. but it's a good thing... really... really it is..'

    That to me sums up how they manipulate the customer to get their way...

    It must stop.

    retina!=iris

    Retina scanning usually looks for identifiable landmarks and makes up a metric based on that. Usually image is converted to b/w for reasons of contrast etc.

    Quite similar to fingerprinting (which has its own flaws)
