You can have my violent games when you pry them from my cold, dead hands, you godless commie!
Seriously, if you want them to stick around, be active. Form your own version of the NRA for violent games. The NRA has successfully thwarted scads of anti-gun legislation over the years, and they are simply an organization of individuals who cherish the right to own guns.
Nice idea, but I ain't gonna pay for it. These things are nickel and diming me to death as it is. $X/month for broadband, $Y/month for cell phone, $Z/month for slashdot subscription...
There reaches a point (for everyone) eventually where enough is enough! My tolerance ends well before something like this.
Or, God forbid, monstrosities such as "broccoflower"!
Honestly, you people who use the term "frankenfood" have absolutley no clue what you are talking about. Get a remedial education about what you actually do eat, then come back!
More pseudo-science to support whatever the latest fad theory du jour is!
Global warming! Phew, it's hot!
Global freeezing! Brrr, it's cold!
Recreational boating decreases the sea level!
etc.
These devices are not accurate enough for this. Continental drift occurs on the order of feet per eon. I can almost hear the hysteria: "Researchers predict the Atlantic Ocean will be empty by 2012", soon to be followed by "Oops, disregard that last report - Mount Kilamanjaro will be an island in 2015!"
These spam laws are a waste of time

So one spammer gets arrested. So what? It's just red meat for the rabid anti-spammers, but nothing will come of it. You know, it's not legal to spam faxes either, but guess what... my office fax is loaded with crap every day!
Why waste time with legislation? A more permanent solution would focus on the technical - e.g., changing the protocol to forbid spam, etc.
The space shuttles are man made vehicles designed to take people into space! There are going to be inherent risks with such undertakings, but this is the nature of space exploration. Time will provide safer alternatives, but for now 1/50 isn't bad.
The astronauts know these risks too, and they willingly assume them.
Are there any aesthetes who have input into GUI's for Linux?
It seems to me that the GUI's available (including KDE) favor substance over style. To make significant inroads to the desktop market, that needs to change. People love flashy things!
I'm a government consultant for a large institution on the east coast, known for its strongarm tactics. We have recently been contacted by some of our constituents about this so-called "file sharing" that's a goin' on on the internet. Our job is to put the kabosh on it, tout suite! However, before we lace up the jackboots, we wanted to know what a bunch of college students and open source advocates thought.
Until there is something available that I can record anything on broadcast TV for a handful of pennies. I doubt I am alone among the mass market.
What, exactly, constitutes "everyone you talk to nowadays"? The other folks in your cube farm? Doesn't sound like a representative sample to me. (Not a flame, just an observation).
This whole idea is a red herring by the record company!
When it inevitably fails, it will provide just the documentation they need to lobby their congressmen for whatever infringement of rights legislation is in the hopper. I can't wait for the Draconian restrictions to come flowing out of Washington like spring rain.
If you can't document that you have been a victim of identity theft (or a similar type of crime), then you have to shell out about $10 per report. Thats $30 per year, simply to make sure someone isn't screwing you over. This seems ridiculous to me.
These credit bureaus have too much centralized data on citizens. They are a one stop shop for crooks, be they crackers or whatever.
Too often, frivolous lawsuits are filed against companies, individuals, or whatever (mailing lists?) with no intention of ever going to court. The idea is to get the defendant to settle (with bad PR, threats, what have you). Personally, I would like to see more of these go to court. I doubt this would have turned out in favor of the plaintiff.
You have the right to a day in court, but unfortunately, too many nowadays want to just cough up some cash and make the problem go away, rather than fighting. It's really a shame.

I still have to use NT 4 at work. It sucks to have to sync my Palm Pilot with a serial cradle! Yay 1987!
That being said, if anyone can compete, it's Microsoft. They have deep pockets, but they don't always win (see UltimateTV, e.g.).
Or a "seedless watermelon"!
Or any of those monstrous "seedless grapes"!
Or, God forbid, monstrosities such as "broccoflower"!

John Fogerty sued for sounding like John Fogerty!
Fortunately, he won that case, but who knows how a similar case in the computer industry would turn out?

Hmmm... I'll take #1; It's good for me, but not for Cisco!
I can hear the shrieks of the gun control activists now!
My STB 128 isn't there either...

It may not be free beer (no EU-style social safety net), but you have all the opportunity that you can make for yourself.

As for me, I think someone is cashing in on a classic. Tis a shame.
TIA!
