    A couple of additional thoughts.

Lackland AFB is where the Air Force trains its K9's. All branches of the service train handlers there at a school run by the DoD.

A K9 trained (and accepted) for such a roll doesn't "fear" quite as much as you would expect. People fear for themselves, dogs fear for their handlers (which 99 times out of 100 means they wouldn't run.) You'd probably have more robots down for mechanical failures than you would have a real dog that abandons its handler.

Dogs do die, and it is hard on the handlers (Been there, done that). An upside is, a wounded soldier would now have a protector with him (for whatever that might be worth.)

However, climbing mountains with packs of gear on isn't going to be a dogs forte. On top of that, instead of a robot lugging batteries, you now have a handler and dog loaded down with water. That's why current MWD teams never have their animals packing any gear. It increases weight, which increases the amount of water they need.

There is an almost immediate drop on the point of limited return in that regard.

(Now time to show a little love to Ringo 274D. 12 years of faithful service to his country, including the invasion of Panama. What a great dog.)

Works fine for Windows XP. The only time I've gotten bizarre errors is the last shut down was "dirty". Restart, Error Check, and ghost after the reboot.

I've also used DD from a linux boot disk. It takes forever, but used to handle imaging some drives that older versions of Ghost (pre 6.0) would choke on.

I tinkered with Acronis, but didn't care much for the limitations. (I'd like to be able to image a drive connected via USB with another OS image. Acronis only seemed concerned with its system drive, and nothing else.)

(Off topic: pretty much any USB key can be made bootable if you image it with an existing bootable partition. Having to shut down and do this through DOS gets to be a pain. I was hoping Acronis would allow me to take a DOS6 partition and copy it to any number of USB keys connected to the system.) If anyone has any thoughts on that one, I'd love to hear them.

  20. When did the name "Hacker" get hijacked? on Should Hackers Get Their Own Logo? · · Score: 1

Sorry, but if you're old school enough, a hacker WAS someone that tinkered with shit to figure out how it worked....

AND THEY BROKE INTO OTHER PEOPLE COMPUTERS TO DO SO. (Or were known to from time to time.)

So quit your fucking bitching about how "Hackers and Crackers get confused". The reason the names are confused is because people thought being called a "programmer" wasn't cool enough, "Hacker" had a nice ring to it, and they didn't have the balls (or tits) to become a real one themselves. So they started a campaign to hijack the name, pinning "cracker" on the name of anyone that broke their code. (It's feature, not a bug.)

Too bad "Pirate" didn't have a nicer ring to it, otherwise you'd be bitching about "The Pirates of the Carribean" and how they stole the name from you and planted it on someone nefarious.

If more "hackers" worked at Microsoft, they wouldn't have the security issues that are going on now. Instead, we have a bunch of feel good, wannabe hackers, spending all their time whining that "hacker means programmer"!
