    Drop-down menus, text entry widgets and font rendering are all handled by gtk libs.

    set up your proxy to block anything to those servers and you're set.

    Or you could just *pay* for the software. Doing this just discourages commercial software development for those of us who want it.

    Usually within 2 days for RPMS, and Debian packages. I'm not sure about other distro's (Mandrake, SuSE etc.)

    That's complete crap! On my system, E16 takes less memory than SF, and is just as quick in almost every way (drop-down menu's crawl with SF, as does window re-drawing). Admittedly, I haven't upgraded SF for a couple of months.

    I really agree about an IBM distro. If someone goes looking for a distro to pick, they'd be confused by all the RedHat's, Mandrakes, Debians, Corels....etc etc, but IBM is a household name - and would stand out as an obvious choice.

    I disagree about the RH buyout though - I'd rather see IBM pile cash into a company like Ximian, stick the IBM logo on the front of everything, and they'll sell like hot cakes :) I'd go for it....if it were a debian based distro of course :) wouldn't touch rpm ever again.

    then Konqueror has been in development for a lot less time then Mozilla, and in my opinion is far more usable.

    it really gets on my nerves seeing these posts! does no one realise that mozilla is so far ahead of ANY other browser in terms of the technology and design, it's not even funny. I'd like anyone to name a browser which has full standards compliance, which can build on every single major platform from one code base.
    mozilla is one of the best cross platform projects ever thought of, and deserves a lot more credit than it gets

    and for 95% of linux uses, usb in the kernel is useless too. so do you think kernel development should stop because it already meets existing needs? of course not.
    most software is designed to evolve, for some, a gui is just the next step from a cli.

    Konqeror is nice, but: 1) Doesn't have the backing of multimilion dollar companies behined it, for marketing and development.

    2) Doesn't have integrated software installation/maintainence.

    3) I prefer Gtk+ :)

    Course, all of these things could change, apart from the last one....probably.

    Using a db is a lot faster than looking for libs on the fly. I wouldn't like to see a deb take 1 minute to install because of dependancy checking.

    to be honest, i think it'd be cool if there was an open source exchange-like solution, as a higher priority than implementing a closed one.
    there's no reason that someone can't come up with exchange compatibility, but i'd really like to see web integration between nautilus, evolution, gnome (online file storage, mail, etc...) first.

    yet again the desktop Vs desktop stupidity get's in the way of common sense.
    there was the camel mail backend that they could have used, and implemented a kde interface - so why ignore it and the chance of *easier* interoperability between this and evolution??
    i know this is still an important project, but people can't ignore existing technologies because of the fact that it was a competitors design.
    sad...

    I've got a modded case, and i'm the average geek user.
    case modding is just as fun and rewarding as cpu/gpu over clocking. especially when it's done well.

    at the moment, i've got a case with a red neon light shining through a Quake 3 logo, and one on the way with a debian logo :)

    As for the heat source, the lights dont give out much heat at all, and run at 3V (less than a hard drive, iirc).
    Saying that it isn't important because a system may need more ram is irrelivant, as it's your choice what to buy - case mod, or ram. easy.

    to be honest - i don't see the point in cloing the window (the history, yes - mozilla does this), because if you open a new window when you're viewing a page, chances are, you're going to view an entirly different site. if not, then right-click the link and view in a new window (if ie does that).

    lets say you want to install to /usr/mozilla - you *obviously* need permission to write there!
    thats where the binaries will go, ffs!
    obviously you don't need write access to use it from there....geeze.
