Being an ex-Gateway phone support lead I know a bit about this. Normally there is a procedure list and when things of the same sort (like broken hinges) damage happen repeatedly we are to replace the product.
Mostly though this only deals with electronic components and not things like hinges. Reason being that it is difficult to gauge weather or not it was due to manufacturing failure or to misuse (yes laptops are rugged but your not supposed to be throwing it around the room).
Though I can attest to the issue that is seen here as Dell has been notorious for their bad hinges (broken hinges on a CPt and a Insperion).
The really bad part about it is with the economy as it is the first thing companies begin todo is trim support. Remember when most computers came with a 3 year guarantee and now you have to pay for that sort of thing. I'm sure they have new policies in place that make getting replacement hardware more difficult as a 'cost cutting measure'
If you look at the case filing you will see that Yahoo! made the original mark claim in January of 1996 as a computer company. In May of 96 another claim was made as an entertainment company.
The document also states that Serious's first counter claim was made in November of 1997. It finally says that his arguments were filed in time and accordance with Australian laws.
He's been fighting this for a while it seems and keeps getting slapped down (he has filed against Yahoo 5 times). Being not very well known (anymore) and the fact that he never actually trademarked the name, I doubt he will win but then IANAL.
Considering that the EFF would not want to do this. HOWEVER, considering that every other intrest group has their "scum" as you put it getting thier laws on the congressional agenda. Don't you think we should too?
it may be one of the evils of society but if those who made the laws have them we need them to change those laws.
I think you are missing the point. Yes it may be the best solution to set up a PC. The person asking the question however wants to know which out of the box solution is best. Not what do-it-yourself solution is best.
How is it so many smart people have so much trouble reading?
Yes this is true but citizenship can change the jurisdiction of such matter espically in the case of federal. I doubt that this was an action of Las Vegas PD considering the high profile.
I would disagree. In the simpilest form it may be but lets look at the 2:
A DoS attack is normally done when a script with no intention of anything other than bringing a site down is excuted across 1 or more systems that hit the server 100s-1000s of times a second to overload the server.
The/. effect is a bit different though it is debiliatating to some servers. Users of/. see a link from a story and wish to find out more by viewing that link. Due to the large membership of/. this can sometimes surprise a site not ready for a lot of traffic and bring them down.
The effects are the same but the intent is quite different. And at least in the US intent can be the difference between guilty and innocent.
It seems to me that Spielberg was looking for a somewhat happy ending and the only way he could do it is through aliens in the future.
Hoenstly the last bit is cool and I liked it though it did totally skew the movie away from the storyline.
The ending should have been right when hes trapped and the camera zooms out (In an Abyss type way) the last thing seen would be the lights on the copeter...
Fade to black...
Roll Credits.. Good movie
Weather this was a spielberg choice or a Kurburic chice is yet to be known as both people are known for some drawn out endings.
Well the point of it is that your accord will require a full tank of about what 9 - 10 gallons (maybe more) of gas for something close to 2.00 per gallon.
Hydrogyn fuel cell cars require no gas (with electrolysis only water) and produce no pollutants.
A hybrid car may require some gas (anywhere from 3 - 5 gallons) but have very low emissions and still mee that 500 mile range.
So the range might not be different but fuel and pollution savings are immense. The fact that the car can match that of your average sedan is impressive considering a few years ago a fuel cell car would need a recharge every 100 - 150 miles or so (some as low as every 60miles).
Ok I went to the japanese site IBM has for some more detail. This is BabelFish translation so dont yell at me for the crazy engrish:

Also the article neglects to metion why it took AT&T 11 years to finally file suit when they claim that Win95 and up are breaking thier patent.
I dislike MS as much as the other guy but making blind jabs at the goliath is going to do nothing but make us all looks stupid.
Lets make sure we judge things on the facts of the case and not because we all hate microsoft.
I agree I was just clearing up the grocery store analogy. I agree that Payola is wrong:
Honestly other than FCC stuff I find it hard to believe that Payola is wrong considering it is the stations choice as to what they play. However I can see it becasue they have such an influence to thier market.
Its not really due to license of the public airwaves (though through the license is how it is enforced). It is the fact that these are public entities and have the ability to change the minds of the public at large with thier corprate views.
This was for the grocery store poster who thought it was a bd thing to sell endcap space:
You cant call up a radio station and tell them you want to listen to some other song (unless its all request nite). In a grocery store you are free to pay attention to or ignore any products offered to you. Its only a problem when 1 soda, cereal, milk what ever company buys ALL the shelf space or does some type of microsoftesque deal.
As I said its not bad that grocery stores do this so long as they dont allow the big guys to muscle out the little ones, though this does happen.
And the only people who make money out of it in the end are the lawyers.
You make a good point though its not wrong for gorcery stores to do what they do considering that they own the space.
Honestly other than FCC stuff I find it hard to believe that Payola is wrong considering it is the stations choice as to what they play. However I can see it becasue they have such an influence to thier market.

You know everyone complains about horrible employers and granted there are many really bad ones out there that are just out to tear you open and take everything you make but there are also many companies that are on the other extreme and many in the middle.
Fact of the matter is no one would have these jobs if people individually took the initiative to resarch the corp they are going to work at. In the technical field we are in the unique position not to ask for work but to take a position.
Even in the econmys current state for skilled people there are 100s (yes 100s maybe 1000s) of companies that are clawing all over eachother for good talent.
If you are one of these people DONT COMPLAIN. Get another job and this time really RESEARCH the corp your going to sign a contract to. Make sure you know the culture and that you would fit in. Ask other employees about the place (most people in HR will even give you #s of people within the company you can talk to).
Remember money is not the only factor (though it is a big one) you have to be happy to. Personally I spent 3 months job hunting 2 years ago and turned down over 15 offers some higher than what I make now. But after all the research and time I found a company I am truly happy with (of course time and econmics can change things but for now they are excellent). I enjoy work (thou sometimes the clients and the sales people tick me off) the culture is great and even if it is not the most stellar salary I feel I am fairly compensated and appriceated for my work.
This is not the perfect company (I would say its on the good end though) and it did not walk up to me right away I had to search for it. It takes a lot of guts to turn down a good offer (even when you know the company is crap) but its well worth it to hold out.
For those of you that are saying "Well I dont have those skills that employers are clawing for." I say "GET THEM THEN" no one is going to hand you a silver platter or a box with root. You have to build your skills on your own (unless you got a rich family or something). And yes learning these things may take work so just live with it.
Oh and as for the sysadmins.....if you can convert a mainframe application into a web based application that is not only user friendly but also intergrates 3 other systems without trashing the orignal mainframe then....what are you doing as a sysadmin????
This product should not really be directly targeted to the PC market (except those with disabilities, one armed man, grandma with arthritus in her right hand etc.)
In the PDA market however this could be a lot more convient than cludgy fold out keyboards and stupid graffitti interfaces. You may not be able to type to fast but its a hellava lot faster than most options today.
As a devout Palm/Visor user this would be very valauble to me. As for ubergeek gaming It probaly wont do much though it might be cool to remap your keys and see if it might be easier to hold the keyboard in your hand almost like a controller.
MicroPayments are also done by American Express (thought it may be as a test because they don't market it). At every 7-11 in Florida you can buy a prepaid card backed by AMEX it can be used online or anywhere AMEX is accepted anywhere in the world.
As micropayment systems go this probaly has the best chance of making it becasue it uses current infrastrcutre and standards so no one need special equipment or software.
Remember the easier something is to adopt to the more redially its adopted. Espically if it has value.
Properly administered, the online environment offers more privacy protections, not fewer. Online, you can encrypt things and provide conditional access. You can know where your files are and who's looking at them through audit trails. Try that with a paper file.
On this I agree this should go right along with OptIns and OptOut policies. There are lots of features and conviences technology can bring us but in order for them to do so they will need some presonal information.
As long as we are able to control that information ourselvs as well as know who has access to and who has seen our information then I belive that this can be a good thing.
Of course I am speaking in terms of a "dream world" currently as most of our technology and legistrative processes have yet to develop to provide this however these are the initiatives we should take.
No man/woman is an island unless he chooses to be. We should build things not to one extreme or another but to one where each man/woman has the choice and power of controll and audting over thier own data.
Be sure to watch for this one. According to another article i read on this in this months issue of Popular Science (page 64) It will create a pit 25 meters wide by 100 meters deep which will launch a slow-motion plume of gas and ice into space.
The theory also says that the plume may spew into space months after impcat providing tons of data on the compisition of comets (which belive it or not we know very little about other than theroy).
Being an ex-Gateway phone support lead I know a bit about this. Normally there is a procedure list and when things of the same sort (like broken hinges) damage happen repeatedly we are to replace the product.

As for ubergeek gaming It probaly wont do much though it might be cool to remap your keys and see if it might be easier to hold the keyboard in your hand almost like a controller.
umm...probaly not
MicroPayments are also done by American Express (thought it may be as a test because they don't market it).
