Gee, sorry you hate your job so much.

I like what I do. I enjoy working with computers. As long as one is compensated in a relatively fair manner, I think that 24x7 support is reasonable. The nice thing about IT jobs is you're free to take a long lunch here and there, come in late sometimes, go home early sometimes, and not be treated like a little child. But in exchange, you're expected to make a good faith effort.

I LOVE all of this. In fact, it's one of the best things about IT -- other than getting to work on computers.

I'm working 7 days a week for the next 6 weeks (self-induced; two jobs), and got a call from a friend on July 5, my last day off. He asked me if I was working that day, to which I replied no, and then said they had been hoping I could look at a system for them (as part of my job).. I almost volunteered to come in, because I was looking forward to the challenge.

oh well, it takes all kinds.. Just kind of tired of reading stories by bitter slashdotters who claim that you don't owe your employer any more than the 40.00000 hours you signed up for. Must be a crappy life. Frankly, I'd rather be able to do 30 sometimes, 50 others, and enjoy what I do.

I bet you take glee in others misfortune. You seem like that kind of person.

Mind telling me which BMWs come with spoilers from hell, are "lowered" from the factory (I believe lowering refers to setting a car lower than STOCK.. so it's not possible to 'lower' as part of a specific model) ... and yes, the BMW neon-lighting option.

Hell, the only reasonable car you mention here is Mazda. Credit to Mazda for coming out with some decent cars these days, the new 3 and 6 are awesome! I love the styling, although I'd think your hyperbole meter would go off the charts with the new ricer-style taillights that come stock with them... ... feel free to continue mocking others.

I always know of at least 5 people that are futzing with laptop problems at any given time.. mostly Dell, but that's because most people I know have Dells (oh, and Dell service SUCKS now).

My iBook has been trouble-free for the two and a half years I've owned it, but I cannot say the same of the batteries.... and at $130 a pop, it's not hard to imagine applecare being worthwhile over the span of 3 years... 6. Re:Match made in Heaven on iPod Your BMW Officially Launched · · Score: 5, Interesting

Ever used an iPod? Then you know why it's the better product. Even my non-Apple friends have come to see how paying for quality can actually count. This from the PC-world that gives you bargain basement beige boxes. Apple is showing the world consumer electronics (and computers and such) can be pleasant to use experiences, not commodities.

Ever driven a BMW? Then you know why it's a great product that's worth the money.

1995 M3 -- best car I've ever driven in my life. Sad I had to sell it after 3 years, 40,000 miles, zero problems; happy about the good resale value.

I can't say every person who buys an Apple product is 100% pleased with it, nor can I say every BMW purchase is a happy one. But both companies are shining examples of how, with a little bit of extra attention to detail and engineering, a superior product can usually be produced. And yes, it will cost you a little bit more.

About the only thing dumber than assuming that more expensive == better, is assuming that more expensive == worse. Sure, there are plenty who buy iPods and Bimmers as status symbols, but don't discount those of us who have actually have taste. Do you listen to crappy music nobody's ever heard of, and then the day they get airplay claim they've "sold out" and then refuse to listen to them? Same principle, pal.

Oh, and this would not have worked in my 95 M3, nor would it work with my 1st gen 5gb iPod (still chugging away on original battery after almost 3 years!)

But I'll be buying a new iPod this year to have bigger capacity, and will be buying another (if not new-new) BMW in a year or so.

Worst thing about this new system, to me, is that you have to set up special BMW playlists, and then only access by track number. How hard would it have been to actually show track names, christ. Aftermarket companies have figured out how to integrate Valentine 1 alerts into the 5-series computer, which is a much bigger technical feat than hacking the cd changer into assigning track numbers to iPod playlists.. I think the Alpine system coming out soon will be better.

(By the way, if you wanted the status symbol thing to hold true, it should have been Mercedes of maybe Lexus. Sure Mercedes used to make decent cars, but not any longer -- Mercedes is the ultimate status symbol, not a driver's car. Tell me, how big is the Mercedes club's track or club racing program? Yeah, nowhere near as large as BMW, which is probably second biggest behind Porsche in the nation).

So often merging turns into a braking contest.. one guy merging at 40mph brakes because he can't find a hole when there is a 20mph speed differential... and then the guy coming up on the freeway brakes to give the merging moron a space... and they keep trying to out-brake each other until they come to a stop.
