I'm with you. I love my Sony Reader. For me, it's just the right form factor. The Kindle is too big for my tastes and I just don't need a keyboard on my reader. I suppose wireless might be nice, but I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not having it. It does the one thing I want -- lets me read books without a lot of eye strain -- and it does it well. I've finally gotten to the point that I'm comfortable with the bizarreness of the associated software, but I still occasionally contemplate rolling my own version.

    So - PS3 development?

Slashdot is so damned funny. The guy you responded to was 'insightful' while discussing the topic at hand. Your response discussing the same topic was 'offtopic'.

I really want an "Agree/Disagree" button next to the moderation field with some filtering goodies that allow me to +/- based upon my assessments. As it stands, I view +6 Troll/Flamebait/Offtopic, -3 Insightful, and +2 Informative, but that means I sometimes miss out on the 1 or 2 comments per day that truly were insightful, will still getting to learn all about about Rob Malda's fecal obsessions. Although, turdman seems to have backed off of those posts recently.

I also want a way to permanently nuke, with extreme prejudice, anything that kdawson has touched. ;)

How true. Have you had the displeasure of using their pathetic attempt at an iTunes interface for the Sony Reader? It's only become mildly usable in the most recent revisions. Not that iTunes is an example of awesomeness, but Sony couldn't even get the basics right. The only thing worse than their solution is the plethora of "free" solutions that were rolled for non-supported platforms.

The fact that they're starting to die doesn't surprise me given that they're also paper wrapped. The Apple I being dead for similar reasons *would* surprise me.

I'd say, "Don't feed the troll." But the person you responded to is more than likely some ignoramus that lacks the ability to actually do any of the things they're trying to get nerd cred for.

I use Apple products because they suit me well and I like being able to do development as quickly as possible while still have the CLI goodness of Unix available by default. And yet, I also built my first computer with a soldering iron. Granted, it was a ZX-81 kit, so it's not like I laid out the circuit board for it nor had to wirewrap anything. Just a bit of debugging because the schematic had the keyboard scanline diodes laid out backwards. Maybe I should pull it out of storage and add some neon to the case -- so I could be a *real* computer builder.

You're totally missing the point. Now, instead of lugging around one of those bulky netbooks, you can get by with just an iPhone, a serial cable, and a VT100. This thing would be more portable than a Compaq Portable! That said, the SX-64 might still give it a run for its money.

Management seems to be ok with substandard work as long as apologizing to the customers continues to be cheaper than doing a good job or buying the hardware to cover up the poor job.

You could always take a long lunch, cross the bridge from Redmond to Seattle, and apply at Amazon. I'm sure Microsoft would give you a couple of hours off to do that, right?
