I'm sure they could port Halo, the XBox game, to the XBox2 for much cheaper than including the backwards compatibility in hardware! Just recently Halo was ported to the PPC chip.
I mean, really... why build the backwards compatibility hardware when you only have to port one game? Oh wait... I haven't checked in a few days... Did they released something else for the XBox?
Anyone else click this article thinking Apple was claiming a patent on shareware? Maybe I've been reading/. too long. Maybe I'm still not used to the editors deliberately allowing sensational headlines.
This is going to favor those who can afford it. The poor who can't afford the sticker (or even a computer to purchase it online) are going to continue to suffer while the rich(-er) can buy their way out of traffic.
Not to mention, that "atrocious" traffic in Seattle is a walk in the park compared to Washington DC traffic. I'd pay good money (over ebay!) to replace DC traffic w/ Seattle traffic.
Easy... a real PDA running PalmOS rather than a crappy iPaq running WinCE. The iPaq is only nice if money is no object and you have time to remove WinCE and replace it with Linux. By then, you might as well have purchased a Zaurus...
Um... only in the US is the XBox #2 in sales. Worldwide, #2 in sales is Nintendo.
That being said, I'm completely amazed at what people will pay and tolerate to be able to play uh, hmm... *goes to go look up a name of a game for the XBox*... Halo.
One thing I will say about the XBox. It's amazing what pumping an endless amount of money into something can do to grab marketshare.
I'm totally impressed. I can't even figure out how to use blender much less resequence my audio (or whatever)!
Seriously... Anyone out there know how to use Blender? Wanna send me some links to documentation, particularly tutorials? Even better would be tutorials that are up-to-date!
It's a shame that they're only expected to make 1 gazillion dollars this year instead of 1.1 gazillion. I don't think Nintendo is too worried.
I'm going to back to playing my Gamecube and laugh at those that haven't been enlightened and still waste your time on the other two consoles.
Nintendo won my loyalty w/ great games, not great specs (though it has those too).
not a troll but the following are true... re: # 3 - not all FPS on consoles EXCEPT (;-)) goldeneye are crap but many are. however, Goldeneye and Timesplitters 2 are both great and metroid prime (more of an adventure game that happens to be from the 1st person) is absolutely incredible. on the other hand, the "pride" of the xbox is Halo which i have played and have no desire to play again... very boring, very generic, etc and see #10 # 5 - the controller IS huge and very hard to use. especially compared to the ps2 dual shock and the brilliantly designed gamecube controller. #7 - XBox is 2nd in the US and 3rd worldwide. It's not selling well. It's outsold many weeks by the PSOne in Japan. #8 - The only good games for the XBox are out for the other systems, except for Halo which i was not impressed with #10 - A buddy bought an Xbox while I was visiting and picked up Halo and and an NHL game (dont' remember which one). No doubt, the graphics looked great (but don't they look great on all the systems?). We decided to stop playing though when the Xbox started crashing consistently. The screen just froze. This happened roughly 5-10 minutes into each game. Needless to say, my buddy returned it and picked up a Gamecube.
... get a PS2 and 1 Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid 2 Gran Turismo (the best driving game) 3 Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (little too action oriented but it's fun)
Don't get an XBox, there aren't games worth your time that aren't on the other two consoles.
For raw fun though, may I suggest a Gamecube? The top-notch games for the Cube put the other two consoles to shame.
I (if you want to me, email at gergi@aol.com!) don't know why I get so much spam (gergi@aol.com if you know of a good solution to get rid of it!) I'm very friendly and social (gergi@aol.com to reach me) and I don't know why people would spam me at gergi@aol.com!
Just so you know... The Polygon count specified for PS2 & XBox are optimum but not "real-world" while the GC polygon count is "real-world". The numbers are actually fairly even across the board.
The CPU for the PS2 & GC are also designed for games, which the XBox is not. This makes a huge difference.
It boils down to this:
Sony relies on different numbers, the number of people who own a PS2 and the number of games available. Which is why the PS2 is #1 in games sold, by a huge margin.
Nintendo doesn't rely on numbers at all, it relies on games to speak for the quality of the GC. Which is why the Gamecube is by far the most profitable of the current systems, despite selling less games than the PS2.
XBox is relying on the argument the TurboGrax and other failed products rely on: "Better" hardware. They need to focus on more games if they want any market-share. Which is why Microsoft is in last place world-wide and losing a fortune.
No you don't. I thought it would be cool having a video game channel but G4 is terrible. Hopefully, some one else will come up with a better version or G4 will get their act together...
Everyone knows peons don't care about security. They just go around doing whatever they're told to do. Half the time, they're just standing around because there's nothing for them to do. They are oblivious to security breaches... I can't tell you how many peons I've seen getting hacked to death without them even noticing! And if they do notice, all they ever respond with is "Stop poking me!!!"
World Domination?! Is that was this is all about? I thought it was the ticket line for LotR: Two Towers... damn, now I have to find the real line and start all over again!
Um, you're talking about the Series 1. The Series 2 require you to plug in a USB ethernet adapter and ... that's it. Like he said, just plug it in.
Can I have my free time back? Thanks!

Bill Gates resumed Craig Barrett's weekly allowance.

So now the /. editors are posting stories that they are going to immediately refute and say isn't a story at all? I love this place :).
More amazing is that this story will generate hundreds of comments.

Sort of off-topic but Nintendo is expected to announce games with online capabilities at E3... Nintendo could clean house with just one simple phrase:
- MarioKart Online -
And this IBM grid computing solution would be a great way to implement it.
'nuff said.

It's the games, stupid.
If you can't beat them,
Buy them.
Seriously though, this would be terrible

Peons, indeed

Since there are only about 3 computers in Iowa to being with, this isn't going to hurt Microsoft too much... :)
Laugh
ICANN should be revised into a democratic body of some sort.
Like, uh, the government?
I think most people in Detroit would love to get out of that city :-)
If you're buying a used book so you can read it and then resell it, what are you gaining? Why not just go to the library?
