Additional shielding, either for people or the entire craft, would require more fuel to accelerate to the necessary travel velocity- and more fuel to SLOW DOWN when you get there. The bits that were involved in landing couldn't be shielded, as the weight would make it a one-way trip (it pretty much is anyway).
If it's a one way trip, it shouldn't be too hard to send the additional shielding material to Mars on a seperate craft before hand. It's not like someone's going to steal it if it sits there for a few months before being assembled.
I'm not sure I see the point of even going to Mars in the first place
The practicality is that, at least right now, it's much harder to wipe out life on two planets than it is two countries. Increased odds of the survival of the human race is pretty important.
I've only busted RAM chips when I didn't use anti-static protection. They were working, and then I carried them to another computer, and they were zapped in the process. So, make sure you wear your ESD straps and handle it safely!
The article didn't bash the Macintosh system itself, rather, it critisized the company's decision to release "sleeker" computers, instead of making more software and better hardware.
I disagree. Look at Law and Order, for example. There aren't any links between the 'perps' and the main cast, and it has been a sucessful show for years. Now there are three versions of it. CSI is fine the way it is. People want to see the logical reasoning that the characters demonstrate, not victory of evil.
What about countries without governments? What if someone spams from overseas? Or from a country with other problems on it's hands like Somalia, or Iraq? There isn't a way to punish them legally.
The screenshots of this calender look awesome, but it is utterly useless to me if I can't sync my Visor with it in some way. Surely the PocketPC "Microsoft Dominated" PDA devices won't make a feature to sync with Mozilla, but will the PalmOS companies (Palm and Hangspring)?
I don't want to start a flame war, but John Ashcroft is the ATTORNEY GENERAL. He has NO power WHATSOEVER to make laws. The only power he has is to enforce existing laws. Furthermore, any laws that congress pass against violence in movies will no doubt be deemed unconstitutional, as it violates our first ammendment right.
All napster did was put the filter on the AUTHOR field, not the TITLE field. So you can still download all the metallica you want, without downloading any Etallicamay.
An excellent turn based game is the Operational Art of War. This game allows you to play out many battles that have taken place since World War 2. You can play against your friends via email with it's play by email (pbem - After you finish your turn, you save a file and email it to your opponent) feature. Once you finish all the scenerios that come with it you can build your own scnerios with the built in scenerio feature.
Overall, it's a great game, and anyone that is opposed to turn-based games has NOT played it.
Neo's already 'The One', what's he gonna do now? Jump inside bodies of agents and make them explode 20 times? Maybe the matrix that Neo beat was just a sub-matrix of the 'REAL' matrix, and he beats the REAL matrix. Maybe he falls in love with the 'Lady in red'. The Matrix are going to end up 'killing' the first one by over doing it in the sequel.
Why should this neat hack be limited to pinball? Companies should consider enabling a hack on other types of machines, such as
Thermostats/Tempature Devices
Imagine controlling and checking the tempature from your PC.
Televisions
Think of your computer recording programs and changing channels. It would be great for pranks and when you need to 'override' your girl-friend's decision to watch figure scating.
Microwaves/Ovens
I'd like being able to continue playing my games while I sit on my computer and make dinner start cooking.
Exuse me, but the article stated that 2 'IT's were assembled in 10 minutes. I'd love to see a hover craft made in 5 minutes, but, I don't think its possible.
Maybe it's one of those evil telescreens from George Orwell's chilling tale of '1984'. Given it's around 17 years overdue, it could happen. Furthermore, the MSNBC article says that "If enough people see the machine you won't have to convince them to architect cities around it. It'll just happen". Also it states that it isn't a question of whether people are going to buy it, but a question of whether it will be legal. It makes you wonder...
Linux-based computers take up 5% of the computer population in the U.S. right now. With Dell starting to sell linux computers, this number will undoughtedly rise dramatically. The percentege could reach double didgets. This would mean that Billy's operating systems would only be in the 80s. Isn't a monopoly a company that prevents other companies from competing?

Sometimes I spell mine out. As in, myadress AT hotmail DOT com.

No, this is a FEDERAL court, that was LOCATED in San Fransisco. It DOES have national implications.

Not only was it intelligent, but it had great foresight also! Remember the episode with the plane going straight towards the World Trade Center?
Nine Eleven anyone?
What was wrong with the Apaches before? They are the best---oh, not the helicopters?
Oh, sorry, I should be in the "Southern Militia Forum"

...it's our favorite song! And it's getting louder too! Oww...It's hurting.
Ice is just a form of water...so wouldn't electricity and ice form some horrible effect?
...a Router shaped like a heart!
I'm going to patent light. And while I'm at it the entire electromagnetic spectrum! ::Evil laugh::
Isn't it called 'alcohal'?

My school already has one of those! It's called a Mac-Lab!
