If someone could take the data that they used to make the still images, and made a traceroute utility that flew down each wire "quake-style" towards each network cloud, that would be cool.
http://www.tema-usa.com has some really sweet SOHO office furniture. I bought a desk from their Wall street line, and I love it. I have 2 21" Monitors side by side on it, keyboard tray which is large enough for my ergo keyboard and MS optical trackball, and a side thingy that I have my scanner and printer on. Everything is modular and you can configure it just about any way you like. It's heavy, high quality stuff too. The price isn't bad either, about $350-$400 for what I have, much cheaper than alot of other solutions out there, but more expensive than a sheet of plywood on top of 2 filing cabinets.
I bought mine at a store called Elements, so I didn't have to pay shipping, but you can order the stuff right off their site. Although, the pricing at Elements was actually a little less than the website pricing, go figure. They also have tons of matching furniture, like filing cabinets (I have one, it's built like a brick shithouse), bookcases, etc.
Not only that, but they ass-rape you on licenses for the server. It's no wonder everyone is moving to Windows Media format. It's better quality, and believe it or not, MS actually ass-rapes you less than Real after you're done buying licenses for the OS and whatever else you need to stream in WM format.
assrape_level(real_server on any OS) > assrape_level(WM server + Win2k License)
Sad but true. If only there was a decent, free, enterprise quality streamer for linux.
Yes, the government prosecutes credit card fraud, and it's rampant in the US
Bullshit. If you steal a credit card and buy something with it online, chances are the government or the credit card companies won't give a flying fuck, even if handed the name of the person committing the fraud. Someone stole my card number and purchased a bunch of plane tickets with it, I tracked them down (names, addresses, phone numbers and even a picture of one of them), handed the info to the police and my bank (the card issuer), and they didn't even care. They said there was nothing they could do about it.
Nobody cares except the person whose card gets stolen. In fact, if I stole someone's card, I'd be more worried about some thug showing up at my house for some "punishment" than I would be worried about the police showing up.
Camoflage netting anchored to a single point in the ceiling and draped over the walls of your cubicle will make it unique and more private. Then you can look at pr0n and draw up your plans of burning the place down without much fear of anyone catching you.
Drop a mini fridge under your desk for keeping snacky foods, pop, beer, etc. And maybe a $50 mini microwave for reheating dilberitos (or something better with real meat in them).
You could also build your cube into a replica of the Unabomber's shack. It would keep pesky users from bothering you with technical questions, and may get you promoted into an area which is less hands on tech, and more management(which means less work for you, as we've all seen how much work managers actually do).
Hello, I am a recruiter for Microsoft. Please post your contact information, I am interested in offering you a job as a software engineer, possibly a management position.
I'm unable to find anymore info on it. Until I see a more comprehensive story, I'm chalking this one up as a gullible journalist (that's redundant) who reports on rumors.
I haven't noticed anything different in my logs, and I probably should have by now as I've been seeing over 20,000 attempts per day. All are still "NNNNNNNNNN....." (of course, this might be the same with CR3).
Sometimes, when using my RealDoll, I get repetitive motion injuries. I wonder if Herman Miller could combine the Aeron design with the RealDoll... Maybe then it would be OSHA certified. I don't want to have to sue RealDoll for my injuries, the jury might think I'm a weirdo or something, even though they would probably all be secretly wishing for some private time with the RealDoll.
Actually, the audrey has no internal battery. If you unplug the unit, the clock resets to sometime in 1999.
In any case, I think we've established by now (it's midnight) that the screenshot is not faked. I can verify that it is real as I helped somewhat with the project.
Please don't anyone use this. Re-rip from the original. Double encoding with 2 lossy formats is going to give you shit quality. I tried converting a 160kbps mp3 to see what it would sound like, and it sounded like hell, lots of clicks and pops.
I've re encoded my entire cd collection into Ogg format. It took awhile, but I just used grip and popped another disc in every time I sat down or walked by my computer. Ogg encoding is slow. But, if you're encoding your stuff to actually archive it, wouldn't you want the best quality possible since you'll probably be listening to it for years down the road?
...with a game service that they don't even pay for
Actually, they do pay for it. The game is advertised with battle.net, and many people buy it for that purpose. When you pay your $50, your buying the boxed game, and the right to play on their servers.
I then called the sales number, and guess who answered...Shawn Gordon.
I emailed them some suggestions for enhancements to Kapital awhile back, and Shawn responded to me also. Good guy. This is a company that listens to what it's users want. I expect that they will do well with their business model, the quality of their software is excellent and they are a pleasure to deal with.
When will unmetered low-earth satellite coverage get here instead?
Teledesic is trying. Doesn't look like until 2005 though. They must have pushed it back because it used to say it would be available in 2003. I wonder how this is going to affect radio astronomy, the Iridium satellites already pose a big enough problem.
Current linux users probably will not pay money for it. But, they will still use it. Even though many corporations think piracy is bad, MS admitted that if it wasn't for the rampant piracy of Windows 3.1 and it's apps, they wouldn't have anywhere near the market share they have today. Since you can "pirate" linux for free, all we need is a decent office platform which will help make it the standard, free or not.
The big money from packages like office suites comes from licensing agreements with large companies who need it on every desktop. If it can do what MS Office can do, and IBM decides to sell it for half the price of MS office, it's going to be a very attractive solution. And no offense meant to IBM, but the web version of Notes is a pile of crap. Porting a minimal Notes client over to KDE probably wouldn't take much work, and if the code from the win16 version of Notes was released, I bet someone would port the thing over within a month. Some people run the Win16 version under linux using wine, but that's beyond the scope of what most users can understand how to do.
In any case, a decent integrated office suite and groupware client for Linux is what's holding it back from the desktop. Several distros can be administered easily through GUI interfaces already, and have the same ease of use as windows, but lack the applications that corporate users need.
I just looked in my fridge. The gold cans say Kratingdaeng-L, but about half the bottles say Theoplex-L and the other half are Kratingdaeng-L. I shop at a couple of different markets, so one has Theoplex instead. It tastes the same, and the ingredients appear to be the same. Same company makes it too.
I like the carbonated austrian version a little better, but for less than half the price, I'll stick with the more potent Thai version. After all, it's the effect that I drink it for, even though it's still mighty tasty.
As a reader from the country in which Red Bull was invented I would like to toffer some background information.
You mentioned later in the post you are from Austria. I hate to tell you this, but red bull was not invented in Austria, it was invented in Thailand many years before it ever came to austria. You can still get it in Thailand and many asian markets here in the US. You can get it in 200ml gold cans, 250ml gold cans, and 150ml tinted glass bottles. It's sold under the name Theoplex-L. Go to your nearest asian market and pick some up. The Thai version is not carbonated, but it's less than half the price of the Austrian version.
If someone could take the data that they used to make the still images, and made a traceroute utility that flew down each wire "quake-style" towards each network cloud, that would be cool.
Totally useless, but cool.
They have video of the planes hitting and the towers falling.

Not true! Personally, I'm involved in a cdr culture. I'm always chasing some tail....
cburley, you're always schemin' on something.

How about an apache box in front of the IIS server with mod_proxy installed and setup as a reverse proxy filtering out default.ida requests??

Hrm, I think the tape player ate the PHP tape. The site seems to be down.
Time to pull it out and wind it with a pencil.

Allison said he inadvertently learned of a patent from "a high Microsoft official"
I don't know what MS has been smoking lately, but they've obviously smoked it all.

How about:
Icy Penguin Balls
or
Frostbitten Penguin Privates
or
Damn, That Must Hurt Sliding Your Nuts on Ice

A symbolic gesture, at best. Nothing, at worst.
:)
I got a symbolic gesture for them..
