    Nowhere. It would be nice though if they stopped requiring the same thing from everyone else, especially anyone who publishes anything that is remotely critical of their pet philosophies.

    Slashdot has posted hundreds (if not thousands) of "articles" that anyone with half a brain would consider biased flamebait, and they're almost always punctuated by the ever-insightful "commentary" appended at the end by the "editors".

    Slashdot apologists love to dish it out, but they can rarely take it.

    Take for example the "Control Panel". Same old Windows crap. Tons of grouped 'wizards' for managing your system. Why not take a page out of Apple's Spotlight book and allow the user to type in what they are wanting to do "add a user", "change desktop wallpaper" and give them the control.

    Yeah, when Apple was shipping that turd pile called "System 9" no one was criticizing the "wizards" or the "control panel". Now all of the sudden it's "crap". Funny that.

    Why the hell would anyone go to "Start" to logout?

    Well, as it is well known here in bashland, Microsoft doesn't actually research or think about the features that go into their OS'es, but you can read this if you want a bit of enlightement. Hope that helps.

    konqueror has done this for a while... I'm not terribly versed in GUI file managers for X, but I'd presume that other programs do it as well...

    Actually you could do this in Windows 95 IIRC, it was a registry setting. It wasn't turned on by default because of performance concerns, and in any case it couldn't possibly recognize all file formats (just as Konq and Nautilus can't, either).

    I tend to turn it off on Linux because it's a resource hog. Great for screenshot collections, but useless for real work. OS X does it a bit better, IMO, but it will only recognize some documents as well (I assume you're bitching about things other than images, here?).

    The big distros (RedHat, SuSE, Mandrake et.al) could certainly afford it. Heck, I'm sure the Gentoo fans could scrape enough to do it as well if you gave them a pom-pom and a PayPal account. Ubuntu can certainly afford it via their billionaire sponsor.

    The "Joe Schmoe" distros (Slack, DSL, Knoppix, LFS) would not do it and that's fine, they would continue to be used by a lot of people anyway.

    Debian would be a problem of course since so many other distros are based on them, and they don't have a lot of money. But maybe Ubuntu could pay their way through?

    It looks more to me like the big boys can't be bothered to do it, but not because they can't afford it. Maybe it's a time and resources thing, or maybe LSB is not quite where they want it to be.

Every single time someone dares utter a single word of "dissention" about Linux or anything else, they must be "shills" spreading "FUD". Every single time.
