If a suspect message is found it should notify the sender.
Yes. I agree. Notify the sender. However, just because my address is in the from: field, that doesn't mean that I'm the sender, so don't notify me. Good luck in finding the sender, though.
I always have an xterm open. Instead of futzing around with the mouse to find the desktop shortcut or navigating the "K" menu, I just type the first few letters of the command, hit tab and there it is. I don't expect everyone to feel comfortable with this, but at least the option should always be there. The apps themselves are gui apps, but CLI is still the fastest way IMHO to launch them.
Surely you can still maintain this level of control while still opening it up. Afterall, the development team gets to accept or reject contributions. And if they get too busy they don't even have to look at the contributions until they get around to it.
Unless they're afraid someone will fork it and make it better, such that they lose control over it.
IIRC Linus once commented in an interview that anyone could fork linux and call it something else, and there's nothing Linus could do about it. That didn't seem to bother him though.
I am really glad they are going after real pirates
No they're not. They're going after bootleggers. Going after real pirates is the job of the Coast Guard and/or Navy. Maybe shipping companies who lose valuable cargo to pirates could organise a bust, but that's offtopic since this article is about the RIAA busting bootleggers, even if they call them 'pirates'.
Ha! I had a friend staying at my place (New Zealand) and he was ssh'ed into a server in Austria. He went to shutdown his laptop, but shutdown the server on the other side of the planet instead (You can't get much further than.nz &.at). Are you reading this Martin?
I always have the hostname in my shell prompt, which is usefull if you're ssh'ing here, there and everywhere.

What You Can't Say

I've heard of a number of people who have read the bible to rebut it, and have instead become convinced by it. Ironicly, the ideas espoused in the bible are in the category of things I dare not say except among my more accepting friends. I have witnessed anti-religious people get verbally stuck into some-one who happens to admit they believe what's in the bible. I have also witnessed religious fundamentalists get stuck into people who don't believe the bible, but I've seen the former more than the latter. YMMV.
If the DVD component is not multizone or regionless I'd be very surprised. Every DVD player on the market (in this country - USA might be different) is multizone or regionless - no-one would buy them here otherwise (we're zone 4).
My original post was supposed to be a witty reference to the recent fuss resulting in the Israeli govt ditching MS-Office for OOo. Why did no-one laugh (or mod me +1 funny)? Sheesh, you guys are way too serious.
You don't have to make it impossible to hack, just harder than your neighbour. It's like the parable about the two men in the Savannah confronted by a tiger - one starts to tighten his boot laces - the other one says "You don't expect to outrun a tiger, do you?" The first man replies "No need, as long as I can outrun you!"
After I got married I weened my wife off TV. Now the only time the TV is switched on (other than to watch DVDs) is when there's a rugby game on (World Cup, Super 12, NPC - I bet you yanks have never heard of those:-)
So there you go, the beginning of the end for telco's is here, their days are numbered
Except for those telcos who reinvent themselves as communication infrastructure providers. Whether they provide POTS or only IP connections, they'll still be in the business of connecting customers, or providing backbone infrastructure to ISPs.
Those who fail to reinvent themselves will become extinct though.
That might be how it works in your country. Telcos in NZ don't go through the bullcrap you describe if the request comes from emergency services. We still have some common sense in this country, although that is evaporating as we become more like america.
The same thing is keeping me from switching to VoIP that keeps me switching to cell phone only... 911 access.
A friend of mine works for Vodafone NZ (one of two cellphone providers in New Zealand). If the police ask them to, they can pinpoint a cellphone to within a few metres. So if I dial 111 (NZ equiv to 911) the emergency services can always find me.
AFAIK, Darl has never killed anyone or ordered anyone to be killed. I don't like the SCO lawsuit thingy either, but my sense of perspective is not so twisted that I would lump SCO's actions together with those of brutal dictators.
While listing quals you don't have is lying, not listing quals you do have is not lying - if they find out you just say that you were focusing on the relevant quals.

It's called setting people up. When I was younger an naive I fell for that a few times. Now I shut up.
The second one is 'Incredible Game Box' but old school computer guys automagically trunc that to Incred~1
Actually, Incred~1 is a computer generated truncation specific to vfat. the old school guys would abbreviate to something like INCRDGAM.BOX
IIRC only dos and cp/m had the 8.3 limitation.
I broke the 8.3 habit at earliest possible opportunity (OS/2 Warp, 1995)

In that case, many linux distros change the default to 'user@hostname:/current/working/dir $' or 'root@hostname:/current/working/dir #'.
I don't know about other unices because I haven't had the pleasure of being introduced to them.

I keep working directory *and* host names in my prompt
I thought that was the default.
You were lucky they didn't shoot the messenger.

That HAND got used a lot then?
Office for OSX has a better feature list than the PC version.
Except for Hebrew support.

Ditto. This has completely stuffed up the NY res I made.

Congrats. This is a present for yourselves that you won't regret - and it has inspired me to suggest the same to my wife for next Christmas - thanks
