Any time spent between asking for the movie and the damn thing playing is time spent hearing a kid lose their mind. Or dad losing his mind due to the kid freaking out because they want the movie. Media destruction take a distant second place to the reason that I rip content.

the large scale impact of plane hijackings that you describe are impossible now. The crashing into buildings and taking 1000s of lives bits were only possible as the previous policy had been to comply with the hijackers. In one case now, the hijackers decided to force their way into the cockpit and take control of the craft. Two big problems exist with this plot now... 1) the doors are locked and hardened, and policy is to not open them no matter what. 2) the idea of complacency among the travelers is gone, and simple weapons such as small knives will be overwhelmed quickly by passengers. Best case scenario for a hijacking is a high head count inside the plane, and certain death the moment you land. There is a much higher rate of return by bombing the lines at security, which makes any of this current structure obsolete. The TSA is fighting the last war.

The thing is , it wont stop the terrorist plan that accounts for these machines. The machines stopped you from wearing a belt buckle and carrying your train pass through. There are documented cases of metal blades getting through. Fortunately the blades ( and your belt buckle ) were not intended for maicious use. It is also forutnate that in both of these cases the hardened cockpit doors would have prevented a major tragedy that is only possible on or with an airplane. You could use the knife to hack up people in a confined area, but you can also do that in a shopping mall or high school.

If you want to just call this a jobs program for all those tax payers, then that is fine, but there is no reason to actually use the crap that those people have built.

it is fun to dismiss this so casually, but when you look at the fact that the company that was awarded the money is tightly integrated, if not owned outright, by former members of government, then this becomes corruption of the highest order. Just by having a few friends in good places, you can get a $90 million contract for things that dont do their primary purpose as well as what was already in place. In government terms, this isnt a huge amount of money, at the personal level of the crooks pushing this scam on us, it is an enormous amount of MY money. Hang them I say

Even jack and coke will kick one off. but jack + jack + jack + jack is cool :) ) the other big one is bright contrast lights... reading in sunlight, or time on the beach or snow is likely to set one off. I can feel these coming usually, and if possible i retreat and at least minimize the effects. crappy flourescent lights can flicker badly as a cause also. thankfully no other foods. this is the problem with a paranoid government agency that no one is allowed to question. You do not challenge their authority by offering a different way for them to do their job. This would be interpretted as asking to go through a pre-determined method to successfully defeat their measures. They have no reason to believe the doctors note is REALLY a doctors note, and have a false authority syndrome that they always know what is best, and should not be questioned.

This sounds more like one really bad agent. hopefully it was a new one that just made a stupid mistake. I gave up on giving them the benefit of the doubt long ago however.

i dont think that normal basic econ applies to big pharma. The manufacturing facilities are VERY expensive to license or re-tool, so the production level is not easily or quickly adjusted to demand. This moves things in the opposite direction than you would expect. Also, they have no reason ( especially if patented ) to reduce price for any reason. Look at the prices of the same drugs in the US and Canada. The difference in cost isnt only based on the Canadian government kicking money into the pool, a lot of it is a collective bargain with the drug makers to limit the price. This happens across the world, the price remains as high as the market will bear, at all times.

My migraine meds cost more than $35 a pill. This is under insurance. The pills that work better with less side effects are more expensive, and I havent had insurance that covers my preferred drug in 3 or 4 years. Cost + side effects means that I actually dont take medication when needed, and adjust my life around the headaches when I can. At least my condition has a possibility of being suffered through with little impact. Some of the maintenance drugs they are looking at cant be skipped when inconvenient. (sorry to go off topic there)
