  1. Re:Why the hostility? on FDA Approves New Drug for Type 2 Diabetes · · Score: 1

    Good points.

I do have an angry trigger reaction to this kind of news. I do not think that people should suffer or be shot for their habits (depending on the habit), but there should be some accountability to a lifestyle. If smokers could get cancer all they wanted, but some magic pill was created to mitigate most of the damage, I would be pissed in much the same way as I am to this news. The people that did not have a lifestyle contribution to their disease truly deserve this type of good news, but the people who choose to live a bad lifestyle and then impose this lifestyle upon society really get me worked up.

The impending government social healthcare will make everyone share the payments for these types of people. The current insurance model will also be effected by this type of medication. My company had to raise premiums for all because too many claims have been made and the insurance companies had to drastically raise their rates.

While obesity can be caused by medications due to diabetes, it can also be possible to control diabetes through controling obesity. This may require a change in types of food, cutting out HFCS as is mentioned all over this article, and maybe some rigorous exercise. I think that telling a person to change their life in these ways first, and then and only in extreme cases bringing out a medication such as this would be a better solution. BTW, i am living proof of what I a saying here .

If I thought that people wouldnt immediately jump on the quick fix in a 'scrip bottle then I would not have the reaction that I have. Hopefully at least one other person feeling the vitriol has thought this out also, and isnt just screaming at the dumb ugly fatties .

People who obsess about using guns to go on shooting sprees, and then prove to be succesful in this endeavor should be banned. In fact, they are. It is called prison.

I am always curious to this line of questioning. If I used a van to crash through the doors of a mall, drove into the food court, and managed to catch a few of the slower people sitting there eating, possibly killing a few, would this mean vans should be banned, all cars in general, or should I be forced to take responsibility for my action?

If the person is predisposed to violence, then the safeguard that you mention is inherently not there.

If the person is not predisposed to commit a violent act, then the safeguard to which you refer is already in place and the act will not be commited. This is entirely independent of the game, and entirely dependent upon the person commting the act.

"I seem to recall shredding my hand on some sports game which needed a fast back-and-forth operation."

    yes!

I recall having to pass the controller around between several friends during the marathon event for summer games ( was it ? ) . The back and forth rythm section lasted at least 30 minutes, if not more , and the end required someone who was fresh to wiggle the damn thing with all their might to try to finish the sprint out.

If someone wants to extend gametime, then this is the ticket. Force the toon to run a true marathon with real-world distances and speed abilities.

I just refused to hire a photographer who wouldn't agree to my terms. Eventually I found one who was willing to turn over full resolution copies of all digital images after one year, and he didn't even wait that long as it turned out. He got to charge us for time, the arrangement of the album, and all prints that guests wanted that they ordered off of the web site. He offered discounts for early orders, and by the time the book was published, the orders had stopped, and all rights were transferred to us.

Fair terms all around, just a small battle to find the right person.

I don't think that it is required to be a professional, it is just a matter of being exposed to quality. I have seen many times where someone will not notice the difference moving from average quality to very high quality sound. When the high quality gear is replaced with average gear, the complaints will start immediately. The exact same equipment that had been used originally can be brought back, and at that point the non-audiophile will finally admit that there was a difference.

Several times I have had the joy of seeing someone realize the difference this way, and they have never gone back on the definition of "good" sound.

I was hoping someone would bring this up. Buy a Sun rack (with PDU) full of Sun Hardware, and you will manage to receieve a box large enough to be buried in full of hundreds of little boxes of cables, most of which can't be used because they don't fit the power distribution included in the same order. Try telling them not to do it, they have no clue how to stop. I think it is an insider effort to keep the bottom line in the red.

Anything cheap, 1 million times, is expensive.

Yup, My wife is a teacher and had one of these go off in her classroom. When she asked who the phone belonged to, she got a response of " you can hear that ?" . Pretty funny I thought. This led us to play with the tone. On her computer, with crap generic ten year old standard dell speakers, we could both hear the annoying tone. My computer has a much nicer sound card and speaker set up, and while I could not detect a difference in the tone, she was not able to tell if I was playing the tone or not.

Speaker quality is a must to recreate that sound.

Exactly. Showing the CSR the door has nothing to do with solving this problem. I would like to see his manager fired, and that person's manager fired. The CSR was not acting independently, and was most likely following direct orders. Being an ass is a side product of doing his job as he was instructed.
