Did anyone yet take a closer look on them? Is everything they do in accordance to the respective licenses? I know that they are using a lot of GPL programs, but the only source code I can find is here
http://www.lindows.com/lindows_products_categori es . hp?category=29
and it doesn't seem to be much.
Also, one can only download (often GPL'd) software from them if he pays them a fee to access this software
http://www.lindows.com/lindows_products_categori es . hp
is that ok too?
Don't get me wrong. I'm a linux enhtusiast too and would love if linux finally came to the desktop and I would also love seeing a company making money with desktop linux...but I have a strange feeling about the legality of what lindows does....can anyone enlighten me? Or just join the discussion?
Wow, it needs a bit of getting used to, but I'm already faster with it than with graffiti and all that stuff. I only tried the windows version, did anyone try it on their handheld?
Because it's a nice way to sell computers without having to raise the price for the OS and without being accused by Microsoft to provoke people to install pirated copies on their machines. Even if they will do so anyways once they find out that Lindows does not run their favourite Windows program...
The interesting question for me is: How much do I save by buying their hp-offer (preloaded pc with lycoris) in opposition to buy the same PC with Windows? Anyone eager to try to find out?
"This is so NeXT," I told Sally. "Everything works great in the tests, then when you try to make it work for real, in the field, nothing works. They build a computer out of magnesium, and it doesn't even burn!"
Here are demonstrations of the new software. This URL is given in the article, but not highlighted / linked, so here is a more convinient way to go to it.
Well, yeah. Some of the guys finally woke up, which seems to be the reason why some of "linux based" companies seem to be more or less successful with it, like redhat for instance.
I don't understand how Ximian expects to succeed either
Perhaps not everyone is just the samaritan type which does everything for the better sake of everyone? Perhaps he just will get some decent money from Microsoft for it, which would pretty much mean "succeeding" for almost anyone outthere? I'm an open source oriented person too, but I still wish some of the guys outthere would wake up.
Oh god, yes, please bash google for finally offering a way to post to usenet again. Can't you guys concentrate on AOL, RIAA or something liket this?
Nothing to see here, please go away...
*sigh*

They still don't know why they others don't go boom. So there is still hope ;-)

Don't worry, it isn't funny anyway :)

Interesting, here is an even older story about guys from the University of California in Berkeley breaking 802.11 security...

I searched for good TTS software to give voice to some of the 3d animations I did in max

You can try out the "research version of Next-Generation Text-To-Speech (TTS) from AT&T Labs." here.
I'm sure it's not the same thing as the one mentioned in the article, but I'm pretty sure the one in the article is at least based on this one.
Try it out!
