If the words are not clear enough, then I don't know... Of course, you can use it in a product that has a proprietary license, but the BSD parts are BSD, modified or not.
The BSD license is pretty simple, and nowhere do I see that mixed binaries must not retain the original copyright notice. In fact, I see the opposite.
Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met:
* Redistributions of source code must retain the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer. * Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution. * Neither the name of the University of California, Berkeley nor the names of its contributors may be used to endorse or promote products derived from this software without specific prior written permission.
Well, while I mostly agree with your post, Guantanamo and the Patriot act have demonstrated that the american government can very well be as bad as the Chinese one, albeit under the terrorist cloak. The scale is different, but the harm done is about the same in quality.
BSD license is slightly different from GPL. You can distribute binaries, but those binaries have to be under the BSD license, meaning that you can't restrict people from distributing them (if they do the same).
What am I missing? I must be missing something for all the complaints I read.
You're missing the point. The GP is not saying the GPL is bad, he is saying the GPL is a license like every other license. Hence, GPL code is not "free" but it licensed and as such, if you want to use it, you have to abide by the license or get sued. Just like any other code licensed, proprietary or not.
"free" code is public domain code, or WTFPL code, but nothing more. Not GPL.
The outcome of your work should be evaluated, not the way you do it. Of course, if you disturb people in the process, it should count. But it is not the case here.
Whether you program while you listen to music or not is really your problem, not his. It's like asking you to code you legs up so that blood can flow to your head. Or your eyes closed so that you can't get disturbed. The guy's is a dumbass. Good luck with this if you plan to keep working for him.
Yes!! That's the one. It's gonna be great. What were we talking about again? Bah... We'll see tomorrow. The kids are online, they'll get to bed by themselves.
But why? It so much easier to let the government spend our money and restrict the liberty of all for our lack of action. And there's this cool movie tonight on TV, so I'll think about it tomorrow.
Hell yeah! We made everyone vote. And those that said no were forced to vote again and again until they said yes. Ain't that democracy?
OTOH, a constitution is hardly a matter for the general public to understand. And don't count on the media to give the people a critical analysis of the thing. In France we even saw stuff like this in our mainstream media:
"We counted different words in the constitution: 'Social" - None, 'Corporate' - 5 instances, 'Trade' - 7 instances. This is clearly a far-right thing, not for the people. Please vote and make your wife vote against it"
Talk about democracy. When the people can't get decent information, democracy becomes a joke.
Regular journalism has been dead for a long time in my country (France). So called "journalists" just take Reuters & others news and republish them, adding in the process useless rants and made up facts. If that dies, we'll all be better off.
You media center is a front end and a back end, and you can have only one back end. However, you can have extenders (The xbox 360 can be one) that do connect to the MCE machine. You can then stream (and even transcode with 7) your media, view recorded TV, plan new recordings, view the TV guide, etc...
who knew?
All of us that already tried to do something that stupid.
And what's more: (Score:2, Insightful)

Emphasis mine of course.
A "hosted by tripod" image every time I reach a doorknob would sure be annoying, but I think I'd survive.

...although the latter is using the former.
Ooops, I think I got mixed up...
Are you mixed up with Droid vs Android? These are two different things, although the latter is using the former.

I thought that with the PATRIOT act, the feds just had to play the "terrorist" card to get anything without a warrant. Are these days over?
Yes!! That's the one. It's gonna be great. What were we talking about again? Bah... We'll see tomorrow. The kids are online, they'll get to bed by themselves.
They didn't restrict anything yet.
There, I fixed it for you.

Yes, all that.
You forgot Maemo.
...when I read the article...
This must be your first day, so I join the crowd to welcome you to slashdot.
Now a user only needs to sort through 99,000 cheap knockoffs.
And a few hundred expensive ones.
Oh, yes - of course there'll be referendums...
Just like there were over the EU constitution.

How do we know you're not a child? Or the poster for that matter! Merely answering a slashdot story could be a potential offense.
Methinks we're going to see less Canadians around here for a while...

I felt a great disturbance in the Smug, as if millions of fanboys suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
Don't be daft.. Nothing can silence fanboys.
You are right, for the bright side of the force shall prevail !

From the excerpt you are giving, it looks as if it is the title of a book. May not have anything to do with MS but just about an obscure book.
