And, of course, black-white liberal-conservative smart-stupid openminded-bigoted are all totally valid, 100% clear cut and accurate, never misleading dichotomies. Once you figure out which side of the political spectrum somebody's on, you don't need to listen to another thing they say because you already know everything they might believe, right?
People are more complicated than that. At least, interesting people are...
And you didn't seem to read the part where I said that that sort of thinking leads to mis-categorization of other "conservatives" you might talk to.
It's the Gambler's Fallacy. Couple that with the fact that each of our preconceptions is likely to tilt that "scoring system", and you're left with a very bad predictor of any individual's behavior and beliefs.
Yeah, and have you heard the way they treat those "guests"? They shamelessly interrupt them, turn off their microphones, break for commercial in the middle of a reasoned thought, and otherwise do everything possible to make those "guests" look stupid, disorganized, and inarticulate.
Going on one of those shows is like volunteering to stick your head in a lion's mouth. And then poking the lion in the eye.
I don't like hanging out with people who think that shrill, smarmy leftists like Al Franken and Michael Moore are smart and insightful.
I also don't like hanging out with people who think that shrill, smarmy right-ists like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are smart and insightful.
So maybe neither side has a monopoly on reasonable people with well-thought-out ideas? What an appalling notion. It's going to be the end of American politics as we know it.
In your paragraph about the nutty kid blowing up SUVs, you basically said "The Left has more crazies than the Right, if you don't count most of the crazies on the Right."
Now, as an independent thinker, I find that such generalizations are very bad predictors of any individual person's behavior and beliefs. And, since I deal only with individual humans, those generalizations are deceptive and do not make it easier for me to understand the people around me.
The more places I go, and the more people I talk to, I am left with two ideas.
1) People are more similar than they are different. 2) You get what you give.
Treat people with respect and consideration, listen to what they have to say, and by and large they will impress you.
Tool-less access is a prime requisite for any computer I want to own. You're welcome to buy any sort of case you want, of course, but I'll continue to buy quality cases that don't require screwdrivers. (Mostly because I think putting threads in aluminum is always a Bad Idea.)
The same reason Sony first sold the Dual Shock controller separately, and then included it as the default controller. So that developers could rely on analog controls, and design their games accordingly.
How many big-name developers would include support for Konfabulator's interesting features? How many when it's a default part of Tiger?
Depends on your definition of "rich". I'd say that anybody who doesn't have to worry about those things is pretty darn rich. Lots of poor people on Earth would think the same thing.
OK, I'll lay down my arms at the same time as China and North Korea. You have to give me cookies until they do.
You are going to be out a lot of damn cookies.
Hugs and rainbows don't keep out the invaders. Guns and oceans do.
I think that a lot more people than you might think (including a lot of people in the military) love peace at least as much as you do. The people in the military, however, are willing to put their lives on the line to guarantee peace for people they've never even met. I think that's pretty honorable.
I still have my CH Products Flightstick Pro for ADB. Man, I love CH sticks. The action was so smooth, and they were absolutely bulletproof. And my Mac stick was incredibly versatile. Programmable out the wazoo...worked very nicely as a four-button mouse with an eight way hat.
That's one thing that will never get thrown out of my Box of Old Computer Junk. I'll pull it out in 20 years and think fondly of A-10 Cuba...
I loved Abuse. I was on the QA team at Origin, that was publishing the thing for Crack Dot Com. The game even shipped with some multiplayer maps that my team designed. The room with all the traps has a lot of my work in it...although nobody except me liked to play it. : )
FrAbs is a Free Abuse clone. It's still lots of fun. I'd love to see the TCP/IP networking work...

Not pointing out that Osama has been to all intents and purposes thrown out of the Bin Laden family is clearly a lie of omission.
That's just one.
Me, I'm looking forward to seeing the Michael Moore style documentary that some guy is doing about Michael Moore. Sauce for the goose...

I hope.
I'm going to pick one specific nit.
In your paragraph about the nutty kid blowing up SUVs, you basically said "The Left has more crazies than the Right, if you don't count most of the crazies on the Right."
That doesn't make a lot of sense.
Now, as an independent thinker, I find that such generalizations are very bad predictors of any individual person's behavior and beliefs. And, since I deal only with individual humans, those generalizations are deceptive and do not make it easier for me to understand the people around me.

So people have their computer connected to a telephone line? How quaint!
: )
How nice for you. Try that at DFW, and you're going to be flying standby. If you're lucky.
You mean that a marketing campaign tries to convince potential customers that their product is the best one available?
Stop the fucking presses. That's never happened before.
That's a great question. If you don't think Apple is adding value, don't pay for it.
All the people who like the value Apple is adding will pay for it.
Both sets of people are happy.
Me, I don't much like keyboards that sound like machine guns.
But that's just me.
Now, my Apple Extended Keyboard II is very, very nice. But it's not substantially nicer than my Logitech Wireless Keyboard.
Anyhow...good luck finding one that works for you.
Ah yes. And where did you study industrial design?
And security by obscurity is a great idea, too.

I didn't say you were wrong to want that, I said you weren't going to get it.
And I'm still not going to get my unicorn.
And I want a pet unicorn.
Get over it. Apple is not going to do what you want them to do, because it would cost them their company.
Of course, I'm not going to get my pet unicorn, so we're both going to be disappointed.

There you go then.

People who like to be able to afford food, shelter, education, and healthcare for their families.
Yeah, it's craziness, I know, but some people think that's important stuff.
OK, I'll lay down my arms at the same time as China and North Korea. You have to give me cookies until they do.

Lemme know where you find one. Most of them are only concerned about your right to give them tuition money.

Why not? I'd bash on that kind of idiocy coming out of anywhere.
Thanks for the spoiler.
Asspipe. : )
