"However the sentencing of Galileo was more political in nature then religious. The only reason for his sentence was for the government to use the power the church had over the people for it's own devices."
Well, golly! That makes it all better, then! The Catholic church washes its hands of responsibility. Pope Pontius Pilate...
In my experience, they're even good outside the warranty. I bashed my 18 month old iPod into the corner of a desk, cracking the click wheel. I took the iPod into my local Apple store (I'm lucky, there are three near me), asked if there was any way to pay for a repair.
They said they'd have a new one for me the next day. No charge.
It may be that I'm in their CRM system, and they're extra nice to me, but my experience with Apple CS has been superb.

Listen up, not-old-people! It's not up to you what risks other people wish to undertake! If it doesn't pose an immediate danger to you, mind your own business!
Um, yeah. And my point is, no retailer is going to lower prices. They are going to get rounded up. There's simply no reason that the retailer shouldn't do it.
Sure, you might have one or two retailers making a big promotion of "Look at us! We rounded our prices down!" but why would you assume that it's going to be widespread?
"With such a rule in place, there's no practical way a business could reliably profit off rounding unless they only sold a fixed number of items per transaction."
That's a completely ridiculous assertion. Do you seriously think that there's going to be some sort of law enforcement agency that obtains price lists from every retailer in the nation pre-revaluation, and then checks up on them to make sure they're not playing reindeer games?
Getting rid of the penny will be like instantaneous, one-time 1-2% inflation. Is that significant? Dunno. Seems significant to me.
Retailer: "Oh, golly, look at that. My unmeasurable costs of doing business have inexplicably increased on the day before the currency re-valuation. Everything in my store now costs $.025 more than it did yesterday. By some amazing coincidence, that makes all my prices compatible with the new currency valuation! Wow, what a lucky break!"
I didn't say they were under any obligation. I suggest that, if I show up with money in my hand ready to exchange it for goods, they ought to smile and take my money and give me goods.
"send a letter saying "I want to buy it, but it's not available""
Nope. Not worth my time. If my business isn't worth their time, improving their business certainly isn't worth mine. I'll gladly use other (dodgier) alternatives.
"Don't market in a place where a market does not exist."
I'd also suggest, "If somebody wants to buy something from you, take their damn money." That's not the way it works, though. We're not talking about marketing...I already want the album. I'm just not allowed to buy it, because I live in the States.
No, I won't pay extra for an "import" album. I will spend time figuring out how to download it for free, though.

"genuinely free-market Republican administration"
Uh huh. Do you also believe in the Tooth Fairy?
You understand that your fear is exactly what the Department of Homeland Security is counting on for their continued funding, right?
Somebody's going to need to tell me what a "suspicious device" looks like, so I'll be sure to know one when I see one.
Yep, I've done the same thing, and I can't convince the stars to align correctly. Maybe I'll give it another whirl.
Thumb drive works fine, except when you boot from the thumb drive, it can't see any other USB storage devices.
Yeah, I can get a thumb drive to work, but I've gotten nowhere with external HDD's. Why? Dunno. It's incredibly annoying.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.
Have you had any luck booting from an external USB hard drive? Because I sure haven't.
Uh huh. But just because he's valuable to society does not give society the right to tell him what he can and cannot do.
Why on Earth would I wish to do things that benefit society if, in return, society was going to make me a slave? That's a rotten bargain.
I'm in Portland, OR. Not sure why they put in three stores, but they did.
Boy, having to go to Houston...no thanks.
"Why should the cops have to pussyfoot around BS red tape just to do their jobs?"
Because my civil liberties are more important than their job being easy.
"Hardly the case for my wife's Verizon service... which was so poor we switched her to Verizon."
Er, what?
"How are they on iPod warranty?"

Wow. Bitter much?
Guess what. It's not other peoples' responsibility to do things the way you want them done.
"Can anyone explain the grammar rule for why corporations are sometimes considered to be groups of people"
Sure. If you're British, corporation names are collective nouns. Like "sheep".
"Why would they change the prices?"
so they can make more money. The whole point of having a store is to get money, and making more money is what they would like to do.
Seems like the strongarming worked pretty well even on eBay.
Go to the grocery store. If you buy 100 things that once cost 12.97 and now cost 13.00, you've lost three bucks.
Is that significant? I don't know. Again: It seems non-trivial to me.

Uh huh. How do you enforce that?
Retailer: "Oh, golly, look at that. My unmeasurable costs of doing business have inexplicably increased on the day before the currency re-valuation. Everything in my store now costs $.025 more than it did yesterday. By some amazing coincidence, that makes all my prices compatible with the new currency valuation! Wow, what a lucky break!"
Yeah, because the retailers would TOTALLY round down. Seriously. No, for real. Why is everybody laughing at me?
Any retailer with two brain cells to knock together would instantly round everything UP to the next $.05 (or whatever).
Evil? Not necessarily. Incompetent? You bet. Useless? Not if you can afford it.
"they are under no obligation to."

I think you need to read that post again, because it doesn't say what you think it says.
