And if "redneck" were an ethnic category, you might have a leg to stand on. But, since it's not, it's not. But hey...whatever floats yer boat.
"Yet you seem to want to arbitrarily label one word as racist and not the other"
You started the discussion with your arbitrary reasoning that "redneck" were somehow correlated with race, and you've not done a bit to convince me that the correlation exists anywhere but in your brain.
"apparently because it suits your argument"
And, you know, some observable facts, but don't let that stop you.
You may define it as racist, but that doesn't make it so.
There are white people who are not in any meaningful way "rednecks". I'd venture to say there are non-white people who could be described as "rednecks".
I don't happen to think that copyright infringement is a very big deal, one way or the other. However, the content "producers" seem to be willing to go to truly astounding lengths to make it a big deal, so a little backlash is not that hard to understand.
I'm not comparing piracy to civil rights. I'm rebutting the notion that The Law exists as some sort of Platonic notion of All That Is Right, and the civil rights struggle is an obvious and relevant example supporting my argument.
So, in other words, breaking laws that you, pingveno, happen to disagree with is "discriminate". But breaking laws that you agree with, that's "indiscriminate".
I guess that's an internally consistent, but wholly useless, distinction. Thank you for sharing it with me.
The only value of a legal system is when it preserves and protects the freedoms and the interests of The People. The law does not exist for its own sake.
"Law and Order" for its own sake is not a virtue. It's tyranny.
"Well, you could do what they did to the electric grid, create an "Open Access Transmission Tarriff" that declares that a utility company does not have the right to prevent transactions to occur across their systems."
Great idea! Now we have to come up with a name. Something about networks...like "net"! And then something to imply that we're making a level playing field, and nobody gets preferential treatment. How about "neutrality"?
Get some perspective. You want a real failure? How about going to the Moon 35 years ago, and then dicking around in LEO ever since then. THAT is a travesty.
You don't see F1 cars racing in the NASCAR (or CART or LeMans or SCCA or German Touring Car Championships) circuits. Similarly, UCI's races are limited to upright bicycles.
"occupy no additional physical space/weight above that of the reader"
DING DING DING DING DING!
I can't wait to have a good electronic book system so I can take the time to OCR all my books (dozens of shelf-feet of them) and have them available all the time.
"If Microsoft offers more leniant DRM then I am all for it!"
It could happen. Sure. You just go ahead and hold your breath for it.
"And christians and Jews never wear turbans, right?"
To a good approximation, no.
"And White people never have deep tans, right?"
And such people would not have red necks, either. You're doing a good job of making my case.
Because non-white guys never work in the sun, and never get sunburned necks, right?
Redneck describes a set of preconceptions and attitudes. It does not describe a race.
And if "redneck" were an ethnic category, you might have a leg to stand on. But, since it's not, it's not. But hey...whatever floats yer boat.

Um, no, because the ol' N-bomb is a racist term. What sort of logical gymnastics leads you to conclude that "redneck" is similar?
You may define it as racist, but that doesn't make it so.

So, there you have it. Not racist.
OK, what ethnic group is uniquely and specifically identified with the epithet "redneck"?
(Hint: None of them. It's a stereotype, but not a racist one.)
Are you serious? "DOS ain't done 'till Lotus won't run..."
Siemens. Yeah. They'll fix everything.
*shudder*
"Microsoft employs many of the smartest programmers and engineers out there"
Yes, but what do they DO to them?
"a lot more services and products than just Windows"
Most of which suck pretty badly. What's your point?

So take a deep breath, mmkay?

Tell that to Dr. King.

"Net neutrality"...I like the sound of that.
(Yes. I am mocking you.)
Um, if you're talking about piracy, why are you listing prices?
You are a very confused person.
So, um, why don't you set Funny to -4 and stop trying to get everybody else in the universe to do it your way?
Mars.
We've been to the moon. Don't need to go back.
Which would be a great result.
What point are you trying to argue? Because I'm pretty sure it's not the one I was making.
"their not fond posting on forums on which people collectively discuss their frustration with computers."
Have one of them teach you grammar.
Two years? Two whole years? Those darn slackers.
Get some perspective. You want a real failure? How about going to the Moon 35 years ago, and then dicking around in LEO ever since then. THAT is a travesty.
I used Macs before they were good for geek cred, so I'm not too worried.
Ubuntu? Yeah, cool. If that's what works for you, knock yourself out. This is relevant to me, why?
You don't see F1 cars racing in the NASCAR (or CART or LeMans or SCCA or German Touring Car Championships) circuits. Similarly, UCI's races are limited to upright bicycles.
What's the problem?
Who said anything about covers?
Oh yeah...you did.
Your mom takes care of that for me.
