The Mighty Mouse works fine for me. It doesn't work fine for you. Caveat emptor, and try before you buy. There is no analog to engines dying, because the mouse works exactly as designed. A car whose engine dies does not. (Again: The car analogy failing. Whodathunkit?)
Again: What is the problem?

Just for comparison's sake, could you please direct me to some not-ho-hum PC's? I just want to see what it is that you're talking about.

And the Dells come with a free forklift to carry them around! They're super-awesome!
As it turns out, I worked at Origin in the QA department when Longbow and LB2 were being developed and tested. I was one of the very few people in the building who wanted more, not less, realism.
Full marks to the dev team for staying focused on a fun, high-fidelity flight sim. What a great game!
Again: Had they not sold me "Rent as many movies as you want for $Foo/month!" and said "We'll rent you movies on our schedule for $3/each", I might have not bothered with them in the first place.
It's not my responsibility to make their business model work. It's their responsibility to provide me with a service that I like if they want my money.
The issue was the secrecy. They didn't come out and say "You've rented too many movies!" they just told me "Well, golly! Looks like none of the movies you want to see are available! What an unfortunate coincidence."
I'm pretty satisfied with GreenCine right now. Similar system, less bullshit. They seem quite content to take my money.
I totally disagree. I thought that Equilibrium's premise had a lot going for it, but the execution was awful. The Matrix was a far more enjoyable film.
Boy, I sure wish Equilibrium hadn't sucked. I even gave them another swing when I watched Ultraviolet. Not even Milla whipping ass could save that movie.
Great concept, LOUSY execution. Next time, I hope they get a dialog writer and please stop trying to be John Woo.
I don't buy cars for "most people". I buy cars to suit MY performance requirements. And I, like the gp, require 300+ mile range and rapid refueling.
And that's what will get my money. If you want to buy something else, great!
You need a hug.
Yeah, because it's your heavy, poorly designed laptop that makes you a Man.
I am laughing at you.

"The groupthink here is so pervasively thick it can be spotted from orbit."
How lucky we are that we have your clarity and insight. Thank you, jay! Thank you for saving us from ourselves!

So, um, buy a three button mouse. What's the problem?
If you rely on the incompetence of others to keep yourself employed, you are incompetent.
"The laws were put into effect to keep those who would like to destroy our freedoms out."
Nonsense. This will do nothing to prevent terrorism.
"it's about security."
No. It's about creating an illusion of security, to mask a power grab.
"it's a privilege, not a right."
You seem to think that the founding documents of the United States are a list of things humans are allowed to do. You need to read them again.
False dichotomy. You lose.
I can listen in a house.
I can listen with a mouse.
I can listen eating cheese.
I can listen wherever I please.
I'm not sure what you're getting at...
"Tying the ipod to the Itunes store"
Where is this tie? Seriously. I'm looking at my iPod right now...7000+ tracks, and a bare handful of them aren't MP3's.
What tie? There is no tie.
Burn to CD. Rip to FLAC. There might be a loss in quality, but I'm sure it won't be dramatic.
Or don't buy protected files. Whichever makes you happy.
If "CO" stands for "Commanding Officer", I suggest that slapping them in the back of the head would be a pretty bad idea.
That's a good one. You should go on tour.
"Because if waiting a few more months means getting what's the most up-to-date"
You're new to this whole computer buying thing, aren't you?
You just wake me up when either Google or Firefox lose an anti-trust lawsuit. I'll just be over here having a nap.
No worries.

Bryan Singer directing Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor? I'm there, dude.
