On a side note -- never ever ever ever ever ever ever (did I mention ever?) buy electronics open-box. I've had my share of odd issues with:
1. cheap memory 2. bad power supplies
and to think that someone would consider buying an "open-box" motherboard kinda makes me sick to my stomach. I understand that even a new one can be "bad", but you're just taking too much of a chance with key system components if you buy them after someone else has "tested" them.....
""This technology is a speed bump. It's trying to dissuade the average consumer from making as many copies as they like," said First4Internet Chief Executive Mathew Gilliat-Smith.
"You're not going to stop tracks getting on P2P sites," he added. "It's designed to stop casual piracy... It's not saying you'll stop people from doing it, but it makes people stop and think.""
Now.... how much of "piracy" is schoolyard piracy? I would bet it's a slim amount. Why would anyone be interested in just making it a little difficult to get to the music (security through obscurity?)
Not that I want to have a CD with protection so fierce that I can't put it on my home media server, but if you're gonna do DRM right, do it right and not half-assed.
Umm, no. Actively hostile towards Linux would be them saying "Fuck you, you're not getting any specs because it's Linux". They're probably not giving specs out to anybody....
Sorry. I just assumed that people would know to put the humidity sensor outside.
So, in closing, you'd definitely want that sensor outside. The humidity in the house wouldn't matter as much, since the swamp cooler would be working with the outside air and bringing it in....
Lifeforce is actually the game that started me out on the entire Gradius line. I have to say that it was probably the easiest Gradius game I've ever played... but with 2 player simul, probably the most fun (second behind Contra.. Come on, who didn't love Contra???)
When a new pc comes in, regardless of the "OEM" license, we have a site license for Win2k, and we use it. Not that XP Pro wouldn't work just as well; it would just take too much testing to move to that release.
It's really fucking pathetic. I am no longer a "valued customer", I'm a potential nuisance and hindrance to "the bottom line".
I can understand your frustration. I've actually been buying canon printers for a while now, and I've currently in the possession of a cheapie S200. No real good linux drivers there, either.
However, your point about being a nuisance - maybe there are technical reasons as to why they don't release a linux driver.
Or perhaps it is all about the money factor... Like you said with OSX, they didn't start supporting it until there was a reasonable marketbase for sales.
They are out to make money, and if they deem not to make a Linux driver, vote with your money. It may not change their stance, but whining about it won't help either.
Here's to hoping that Konami still sees an interest in keeping the Gradius series alive for any platform.
I may be a small minority, but I can say that I have enjoyed the Gradius series from start to finish; as well as some other shooters for genesis (Gaiares and Thunder Force 3) and I will buy the console that has the next in the Gradius series.
If you liked 2d scrolling shooters, pick up Gradius 5. You won't be disappointed....
Along the same lines, I modded my PS1 back in the day. I did make some *cough* backups, but those rarely got played at all. The reason for modding? Gradius Gaiden - this game is probably on par, if not better than even their latest...
Seems like you'd just have to hack together a humidistat (??) in the mix.
Basically, once it becomes inefficient to run the swamp cooler (basically due to humidity) then a circuit could switch a relay/transistor/whatever you like to kick the AC into action. You could probably even integrate this into your existing thermostat pretty easily....
After I got out of College, I met a guy who I knew as one of the "bullies". He's actually a really cool person... has taught me a lot on how to keep my guard up when people try to trample on me.
However, all through high school, all I did was just be an observer. I'd never offer any real reason for anyone to mess with me... most of the bullies there would slam on you to get a reaction, and I learned that early... But, even better, to give them a reaction that stings....
Congratulations, welcome to the obvious. TVs and cars are luxury items. Luxury items are things you don't need to live. You can get around by foot, by bike, or by public transportation.
The IT department is there to help protect the network from attacks. Given, blocking the "email port" (25?) will only help the company keep the attack contained within their walls, it's still a nice gesture towards playing nice in the sandbox we call the internet.
I used to work more closely with our IT department where I work, and let me tell you, if you can VNC and SSH out to your own box on the internet, you've got it ten times better than most people in corporate America. However, the risks to a company's data and information is greater this way. No matter what kind of company you work for, the "power hungry IT department" should do all they can to make sure that their data is safe.
As well, you should be working right now! Stop browsing Slashdot! (looks over shoulder to see if Boss is in my cube....)
You can buy replacements - probably direct from canon. I've not seen any at any stores (not to say they don't exist...) but at least it's servicable. Epson, on the other hand, had me hopping pissed off because my perfectly good stylus 890 clogged all but the blue at one point... and replacing the head cost as much as a new printer. In addition, you had to basically sledge the printer to get the print head out - not very user servicable.

*whew* glad I got that off my chest.
I really really really hope that the vein that is about to pop in your forehead.... well, doesn't.
Exactly.

Here's a portion I found interesting:

Does that make them more prone to cancer by giving the cancer cells extra food?
Umm.... you'd already have cancer if you were feeding the cancer cells extra food, right?
tasty-looking folate, ...
That just sounds weird.
Imbarrased... nevermind the spelling, would that mean that you are internally embarrassed?
Hell, I'm married and I hardly get any.
Congratulations, fatty!
That better?
Be gentle. Cutting back on the cigarettes.... tend to be a little more edgy....

Actually, our defacto standard for work is Win2k.

Good thing that most porn is downright... cheesy...
I read your post as "blank pages"....
Thought to myself... "Odd. I would figure blank pages would look the same in... ohhhhhh.. BANK pages...."
Sounds like typical high school fun.

You obviously don't live in Columbus, Ohio.
Neighbours shoot each other over fence posts
I'm going to have to stop looking at my neighbors from the comfort of my fence post.
But which day this week?
coup for more power by the damned IT department.

shitcockers
:)
Penny Arcade Fan? Or is this the kind of language used in CS?
Most (if not all) Canons make it easy to replace the head.
1. Remove Ink Carts.
2. Move Lever.
3. Remove Print Head.
You can buy replacements - probably direct from canon. I've not seen any at any stores (not to say they don't exist...) but at least it's servicable. My bed is on the other side of the house. And yes, I own my own house. Even if I did live with my parents, I'd still tell you to go fuck yourself.
God, there's a bunch of dipshits on Slashdot lately.
