About two years ago, slashdot ran a story about RealUser, which provides a passface solution. I was shocked at how well I remeber the passfaces I was given. I just tried to login to the site, and I was succesful, I haven't tried to login in months.
Now, it's not exactly the same, but an AirBus plane will not allow the pilot to do things it considers unsafe(for instance, send the plane into a nose-dive). Boeing planes allow the pilot to do whatever the pilot wants.
Obviously, one hopes that the system on an Airbus plane never affects what a pilot is trying to do. That pilots fly safely, and that the plane does not misinterpret a safe, necessary maneuver as being unsafe. I think the people who died on the Air Egypt flight where the copilot allegedly crashed the plane probably wish they had been on an AirBus plane.
The Washington Post is a business, one of it's goals is to make money. They will not provide content to the web(indefinitely) if they lose money by doing so.
If you're going to include a link in a slashdot story, link to the page with ads. It's not free to put content on the web, and the producers of content deserve compensation.
Linking to a page where the newspaper, who has expended capital to report the story, will get no ad revenue is wrong!
NetFlix thought of something that no one else (at least that I am aware of) thought of. They invested a lot of capital in to making this idea work, and just as it starts to get a critical mass, Wal-Mart comes in and tries to run them out of business.
This is precisely why we have patents! To reward innovation.
USB would probably not be as popular as it is were it not for Apple making it the sole port on the orignal iMac. This created demand for USB devices, which previously did not exist. One can argue that given Apple's low market penetration that this argument is specious. But, consider this, every person who bought an iMac had to buy a new USB printer if they wanted to print. That ends up being a lot of printers(and scanners).
So, I'm not surprised to see USB2.0 on the new Macs for two reasons: Apple has been consistently adopting industry standards for years, and, it's just a frigging rumor!
If I'm changing the channel, obviously I am watching TV, but I leave my TiVo on all of the time, is the channel I'm watching last going to get a boost because I left my TiVo on all night?
not head of government, meaning he has some powers, but he doesn't write laws or set policy. If the Indian Prime Minister comes out in favor of OSS then let me know!
Apple hardware comes with the software installed, since Panther is likely to support 64-bit processors, and is set to be released this year, this should be a non-issue.
It seems like Gandalf's plan was to destroy the bridge, and in so doing destroy(or at least delay) the Balrog. The Balrog's whip snagging him seemed unexpected.
Man, you're going to Europe, and your big question is how do I stay connected? Here's some better advice
Visit the Champagne region in France, the caves are incredible
Go to Paris and visit the Louvre and the Jeu de Pomme, and the L'Orangerie, and the Musee D'Orsay and the Pompidoux, and probably a hundred other museums
Go to Munich and visit the Science museum there.
If you're in Strasbourg, go eat a Tarte Flambee
Soak in the culture, don't waste your time online!

Wasn't his spelling of "You're" more worthy of criticism?

How do you make it through life missing a chromosome?
Wouldn't all of the debris landing in the ocean make it harder to determine the cause of an accident?
Yes, you won't have to fool around with that all-important second/third mouse button, and you'll get free development tools to boot!
God forbid someone make a made for TV movie without at least two crappy actors!

There is no equivalent in India.
The President of the U.S. is Head of State, and Head of Government. The President of India is Head of State, the Indian PM is Head of Government.
