Dogs' hearing extends to much higher frequencies than humans. Dogs cannot hear low frequency sounds that humans can hear. This is why thunderstorms freak out dogs, they can't hear the thunder, but they can feel it.
Responding to another thread, yes, organs and synthesizers do create sound that is outside the range of human hearing, but it's not done as part of some mind-control experiment, it affects the quality of the sound that you can hear(somehting to do with harmonics). Anyway that's what I recall from Music Theory...
I think the standard for winning a Libel lawsuit is pretty high. IANAL, but my recollection is that you have to show that the author knew that the alleged libelous content was untrue.
This book is almost 15 years old! I believe Rhodes won the Pulitzer Prize, National book award, and one other major award for this book. Anyway, why the book review now?
(For those of you who will say it was published in 1995, that's for the paperback edition).
By all means, read the book, but it's hardly news.
I guess I can see why they want this information, if you have a lot of debt that you would only be able to pay off through either years of austere living, or selling corporate secrets, I'd like to know about it before I gave you the opportunity to do the latter.
Read What Color is your Parachute, this is a great book! I was working at a Kinko's(a certain amount of irony there), anyway a guy would come in all of the time get resumes copied. After he had spent weeks fruitlessly jobhunting, I lent him a copy of this book, a couple weeks later he returned it and told me he had decided to start his own business, and that the book had really helped him. It's a good read, focusing on both how to get a job, and make sure that the job you get is a job you'll want to keep.
"Brilliant but Cancelled" described fan efforts to save cancelled shows, noting it is nearly impossible, once the final decision is made. They did cite one example of a show that was cancelled and brought back because of fan support, "Cagney and Lacy." The show was out of production and the actors and actresses had been released from their contracts, but they managed to get everyone back.
If Farscape is officially canceled, there's probably not much hope. One notable difference is that the shows featured on "Brilliant..." were all on one of the major networks, so Sci-Fi may play it differently.
Nice to see the correct name

It's one thing being Lucy's brother, but Schroeder had to deal with her always coming on to him. Sheesh, how many times does a guy have to say he's not interested before the girl takes the hint?
You verify your password, because the entry is masked, verifying a plaintext entry by retyping it seems stupid.(since most people would just copy and paste)
Well, let's be clear, I didn't call anyone a Nazi. I alluded to the comments of someone who goes by the name of "Grammar Nazi."
I'll stand by my original posting, not because I'm a Mac-zealot(which I am), but because i still believe my points are valid.
My apologies to all you Anonymous Cowards out there, but there's a reason your comments are initially scored 0, you lack credibility. The AC who submitted this story offered no proof of his/her problems, did not supply a link to any news story supporting his/her claims, did not supply links to the forums that showed other people having the same problem. I still say the story is BS, because I have not been supplied with one shred of proof to the contrary.
If that makes me a Nazi in your book, than go to the library and get a new one!
It's really irresponsible to post this story. As Grammar Nazi mentions, there was one brief outage of.mac, and since then it's been smooth-sailing. The outage was well covered by the press. The anonymous submitter would have us believe that outages are ongoing, and that the press has stopped covering this story. Certainly Dvorak would have said something...This appears to be classic Apple-bashing, which is fine if you're trying to make sauce, but not if you're running a news site.
So, the planet's been around for billions of years, and it has been hit by meteors before. Question. Why are we worried about this now? Nuclear weapons have been around for just under 60 years. The Nuclear club continues to grow, and include instable countries.
Lets deal with the threat that is more probable, and manageable, and leave worrying about asteroids to Chicken Little
Why would he look for it? Batman didn't say he wasn't carrying the bomb. Batman was probably wearing a lead lined costume that day, he had a countermeasure for every (known) Superman ability.
Just to stop the obvious reply about a lead lined costume, in the DC world, Superman can't see through lead paint, so, no the costume wouldn't be unduly heavy.
Let's say that Batman and Superman were thrown in a ring to fight, and they were both motivated to win(Robin dies if Batman loses Lois dies if Superman loses). So, the first thing Batman does is take off the kid gloves and goes at Superman with everything he's got. Superman wastes cycles thinking of how to save Lois and Robin without killing Batman. Batman figures this out too, but he does it while he's kicking Superman's ass.
The classic confrontation between Superman and Batman was IMHO when in the Man of Steel miniseries where Battman puts up a force field around himself and tells Superman that if he penetrates the forcefield, a bomb that Batman has planted on some person in the city will detonate. Superman leaves Batman alone. There really was a bomb, and it was planted on Batman. Batman figured Superman could tell if he were lying, so he created the scenario where he wouldn't have to lie, or put someone else at risk, but he could still thwart Superman.
My money's on Martian Manhunter if the battle's underwater.
I'm always struck by various entities attempts to edit content to fit a particular purpose.
MTV does this all of the time bleeping words in videos, blurring gang signs and logos, and occasionally just not showing a video.
The problem with this, is that if editing is inconsistent(and it usually is) you find that the messages that get through are worse than the one's that were edited out.
Classic example, Tom Petty's video for "You Don't Know How it Feels." This song featured the lyric "Let's get to the point lets roll another joint" MTV replaced the word "joint" with some mumbling. Contrast that with the video for "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg. This song features lyrics(I don't remember them exactly)which described driving while sipping on Gin and Juice. I'm not trying to start a drug debate here, but I think we can all agree that drinking and driving is more dangerous than smoking pot. MTV sends the message, drive with your Gin and Juice, just don't sit at home and smoke pot!
Another example of MTV's inconsistent editorial policy is the editing of Sublime's "Santeria", and Coolios "Gangsta's Paradise" In "Santeria" the lyric "Daddy's got a new 45" has the gun reference(45) removed. In "Gangstas Paradise" the gun reference is not removed from the line "Got a 10 in my hand and a gleam in my eye." Message, it's ok for Coolio to brandish a Mac-10, but the guy from Sublime can't have a '45!
The more subversive message is that videos marketed to white kids will have "dangerous" content removed, videos marketed to black kids will not have "dangerous" content removed.
Broadcast TV gets permission to do this, therein lies the difference.
What I'd really like to see is Clean Flicks version of The Fountainhead. Would they remove the scene where Roark destroys the buildings he designed because someone else altered his design?
I wish these people would edit the sex out of their own lives, it would do wonders for the gene pool!

I went to the Wheels of Zeus inquiries page and clicked on the Job Inquiries link the email address was "jobs@woz.com".
I checked the ground temperature and looked for airborne swine, and then figured it all out.

Okay, technically a Red Sun doesn't sap his powers, it just doesn't replenish them the way a yellow sun does.
Since I'm not a big enough fan of the Dogg to ever have bought one of his albums, I was unaware of this edit, thanks for the information.
