And of course no Linux version at all. Please compare Blizzard and id-Software behaviour. Both companies are rich and powerfull. But even if Blizzard is making good games - they just earn money (and sues innocent people to make more and more and more money), while idsoft takes care on OpenGL and Linux.
Legos are quite expensive nowadays. In order to build a huge project, or even a more "tech" one with motors and IC chips, it takes a small fortune.
I disagree. I am owner of Lego Mindstorms and many Technic sets (including additional motors) - this wasn't expensive. You can bought everything on auctions, it's cheaper than you think. This toy is great, of course PC with Linux is better, but when you have your PC you can try something else.
I remember time, when I played Galaga on arcade. It was game about killing people with lethal weapons (they were in flying in ships, just like me). Then I remember River Raid on Atari, it was about killing people with lethal weapons (they were in tanks and helicopters). Then I remember Prince of Persia, it was about killing people with lethal weapons (swords). Now I like Civilization 3, it is about killing people with lethal weapons (tanks, fighters, rockets, nuke). Looks like all my life I was killing people in computer games. I am really sorry. I should play only solitare (and NOT minesweeper).
Have you ever played Wolfenstein 3D? What do you think about RTCW? I am still playing Linux demo online, I like it. But it's not game like Wolf3D, it's not next Wolf, it just modified Quake3. This game has nothing in common with Wolf3D.
Doom was special. It wasn't game you play and forget 3 months ago. You can say Quake or Half Life was special too, but it wasn't, not that way.
Can you imagine Doom with full 3D-characters? I can't. Most important thing in Doom/Doom2 was dark athmosphere, no other game ever was so brutal, so dark, so heavy. Show me the game when you can shot somebody with shotgun and it looks like in Doom, show me the game when you can shot barrel and person standing next to it blow up like in Doom. Even Duke Nukem 3D was not so perfect.
Or maybe it is possible to create 3D characters which looks better than Doom's imps or Duke Nukem ? Maybe one day, on 10GHz CPU...
Why the hell does code have to be GPL to be ported to Linux?
When code is under GPL -> it can be changed and distributed -> ported to Linux. When code is not under GPL -> it's under another license. Some licenses allow to change and distribute changed code, some doesn't. What is license of FreeSpace2 code?
Is that mean, that no Linux version is possible? AFAIR Doom engine is GPL, but what about Heretic/Hexen/etc ? Source was released, but who (and how) ported non-GPL sources to Linux?
How long will I wait for RedHat or Mandrake contain ing stable gcc ? You know - gcc-2.96 was nice joke, but I still want my 2.95.3! Will they switch from 2.96 only to 3.x.y, becouse it's higher? At least there is Slackware...
First of all - M.U.L.E. is one of the best games in history, just like NetHack or Civilization.
You can find few clones in the net - but it's for DOS or Windows. I couldn't find any clone which will run in Linux. I thought about writing SDL clone myself, but this is a lot of work (the hardest parts for me is AI and drawing sprites) - and I am not sure if arcade parts should be still in game.
Do you know any Open Source M.U.L.E. project I could join?

Why should we care about computer viruses? I don't remember when I had this thing. I don't understand people which buys antivirus software, which scans their mail, then read NEWS like "don't open I love you letters!" and put half of their mail to trash. Why so much work is needed just to use computer? AFAIK computer viruses are so important only for Windows users. Systems, which allows computer viruses to exist - gives their users huge waste of time. Just let's talk about something else.
At home I run about 7 computers, a mix of linux winXp 2k and 98. The fact that my geforceX cards can and will run great in all of the above os's using proper driver support is all I need to buy from nVidia.
I am happy to tell you, that you can use ATI cards in Linux. I am sorry to tell you, that nVidia drivers are much worse, than any other drivers for Linux, becouse they are closed source. It means, that you could have stable system if you have a luck or russian rulette if you don't have it.
It is my understanding that currently the Radeon series has good 2D acceleration in X, but the 3D acceleration portions (MESA et al) is still in the works.
That is untrue. 3D acceleration works for Radeons, except Radeon 8500 (...yet?). I played RTCW on Radeon VE without problems (but XFree86-4.2.0 and new drm is needed).

When SiS735 chipset has been released - it was fastest and - probably - most stable chipset for Athlon. Only one (major) vendor created motherboard with it - ECS k7s5a. Other vendors was selling KT266-based motherboards, much more expensive, slower and just worse (I am not sure, but isn't true that VIA bridge still has problem with SB Live on Windows?). I would pay a lot of money for ASUS SiS735-based motherboard, but it just doesn't exist. Why? ECS k7s5a is fast and stable. The only problem is that a lot of ECS mobos are defective. I am not sure what should I buy now - Soltek or Asus mobo on KT266A? ECS k7s5a? Wait for something new?
Are there any Linux benchmark of motherboards? With stuff like kernel compiling time, drm performance, hdparm results, etc...?

It's not open source (DivX _is_ - libavcodec). There is no Linux version. Why should I care?

When RedHat will switch from gcc-2.96 to something else? That's the only reason for me to install Slackware instead RH/MDK.

What happened with Linux version of Kazaa client? Are there plans to make it back?
I am searching for any info for a long time. Does anyone run Civilization 3 or Capitalizm 2 with winex? Is it possible? What about HOMAM4?
What's about gnutella? Can anyone block it? What means "block known p2p systems" ? Just filter known ports?
Now how about a port of the C64 game Elite?
There is a Frontier, then First Encounters. You can also find one clone (in development) on Sourceforge.

Hours of coding time spent just to make a emulator program that doesn't do anything usefull
I spend days of coding time just to make something which isn't usefull at all. And I think it was great time.
If we aren't all using PNG right now, there's no way we're gonna be using jp2
.png very often, for example in my programs (tiles, textures) or when I save scanner output.
Who are you ?
I use

At last something funny today...
NetHack, M.U.L.E., Civs, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Elite/Frontier - games to play over and over and over and over and over and over again!
Why only 7 years of 3D graphics on PC?
What about Stunts, Elite, and other 3D games?

This guy must be really mad, now
Say what you want, but looks like true reason for missing SPARC patch is just a revenge on Sun for this .
