I can't say why your framerate dropped to 1, perhaps you had something setup wrong.
Personally, I was able to run Counterstrike (before this whole steam updater thing) at *Better* frame rates than windows, using 1600x1200. I attribute this to the nVidia linux kernel modules which I installed.
Best part? I have two sound cards, I could listen to music and play CS at the same time, with seperate volume controls for each, and (using the joystick driver in XMMS) control of the song being played (play/pause, stop, forward, back.) Couldn't do that in windows.
But for $500, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. I mean let us, for the moment, ignore the other arguments. Personally it's going to take more money than that to make me a target of the RIAA.
Funny thing is, I'm offering to do all the processing for them, with my scripts. It would be much less work than trying to play with Windows Movie Maker.
One unfortunate problem is, as your images increase, so does the time to compile them. Suddenly perl is your friend.
Finally, mpegs created with image magick convert are headerless. Meaning that if you have a cat command, you can cat two mpegs together making a whole movie. Kinda cool if you ask me.
Like I said, I have the whole thing running on my webserver, and I could be persuaded to give out the source of the scripts.
In fact, I've been trying to contact those who run the volcano cam about it. I automagically create the movies each day and throw them up on my website (I don't have enough bandwidth to actually give a link.) Unfortunately, I have yet to hear from them.
I will let you in on part of the secret though, Image Magick.
The punishment is 24 months of active duty? Send him to Iraq. Let him clean up the mess. Some time in the line of fire may make him think twice before taking over countries.
Pull all the useful data off onto a spare disk and clean the machine. Just don't be like my neighbor, and wipe, then install your new os on the spare disk.
Actually there needs to be diffrent paths you can take with respect to a degree in Computer Science. For example, I like working with low level stuff such as assembly. I like having complete control.
If you want to storyboard games, fine. There should be a lib-arts degree in CS for doing art/game development. However, there also needs to be those people who write the engine for the graphics.
Adding to the confusion would be business. But it needs to be clear, that those who make the most money are those who work the hardest and are the smartest. Those who write the graphics engine. Those who write compilers from scratch. Those who can do the math, and don't want to complain about how it is "too hard." Those who spend 20 hrs a week working on homework just to pass Advanced Calc.
Once again, I agree that the status quo is messed up, but you know, it is a whole lot harder to change the program when you're not in it.
My school which shall rename nameless has two levels to the CS program. There is a regular undergrad with about 400 people and a professional program. Now out of those 400 people, my school looks at your grades in art, math, physics, and everything except CS courses (mostly because by the time you're applying for the pro-program you haven't taken any) and grabs the top 95.
This left me high and dry, as I had an issue with a math class. I asked the head undergrad advisor and he told me to wait a few years and enrollment in CS should drop.
Next I walked over to the Math Department and got my degree in Mathematical Science with a Computer Science focus and a Computer Science minor.
The point is, rather than basing the program on skill (currently I write software that Cisco uses in hardware diagnostics) some universities are basing it on grades. The system needs to be overhauled to judge the skill of the programmers, not their book smarts.
It seems to me, even if you got into a laptop, the network should have enough security that, well, you could get to other laptops, but not to the main servers.
And I don't know about you guys but every time I've tried to work with connection sharing, it has required intervention on the machine that I was using to bridge the networks. It seems to me, if the servers are set up correctly this is more a case of chicken little.
if you have an ipaq 1940/45. It seems if something writes to the "filestore" the rom becomes corrupt and it has to be sent back to hp. As my main memory is basically full, I'll know when a virus hits; my ipaq's rom will need to be reflashed.

Here's the Transgamming forum.
291 votes in less than a week? Well seems they have some users who want it.

Actually, if you look at all my posts you'll see I've posted a link. Granted it's not updated hourly or anything, but it's better than nothing.
Remebered I had access to another server, so here's the movies I've made.
McBride the sheriff of Naughtingham?
Oh well, it's all good.

following the only proven rule regarding security, which is:
secure == obscure
Which is why my webserver is only accessable through the octal represntation of its ip.
Whatever happened to:
Format, fdisk, re-install do da, do da?

Last time I tried to do that I kept getting a syntax error. Some error about a missing colon.
My Lord! So that's it! And I thought they took my spleen!

The real trick is to read slashdot and a book at the same time while pretending to work
I get more reading done during work than any other time of the day.
And you can get them from your local public library.
I recomend this cd player
What should you be cooling? How are you measuring your temp? Answers to these questions will drastically change the answer.
A nice device, allows over-ride if you loose it, and instant unlock as need be.

Umm, no, there is a fairly obscure version of carp
carp: [v] raise trivial objections
Well carp, apparently I can't spell. I guess it's true, better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt.
Don't limit themseleves to just one platform. Each has its uses. Personally, I use linux, win xp, and a Mac from time to time.
I mean, if you don't use them all, how can you really say one is better than the others?
It seems to me that those who don't have the money to buy a $90 drive wouldn't have the money for the $70 drive. So why risk toasting your $70 drive?
