  1. The whole "per" click is flawed.... on Google's Fraud Squad Battles Phantom Clicks · · Score: 1

I've been saying this for years, and I'll say it again.

The "per click" is flawed. I don't click... almost never do. I'm at a site to read it's content. Not just link jump from site to site.

If I see something of interest, I'll note the URL in my head and check it out later.

Think TV Ads or Newspaper Ads:

I don't leave my favorite show to run off to the store??? Nor do I stop reading the Newspaper column to buy that new car at that low low price...

    It doesn't work that way.

Ads should be sold on a number of eyeballs flat rate fee, and that's it. The whole "per click" notion is flawed...

Anyhow... we block ads because they are obtrusive and annoying!! What happened to the superbowl ads? Why doesn't soemone try and make some for the internet. Fun and Entertaining... something we'll WANT to watch? Not so we click, but so we remember your name and url....

There's probably a lot of money to be made for the person who can finally get this right.

  2. Easy to use, yes... but features important also!! on Advice for Developers: Make Common Usage Easy · · Score: 2, Insightful

The problem with software is that we try and make it do everything so we can satisfy everyone!

This is where modular development comes in and where Firefox excels..

I started an open source portal, with simplicity in mind. It was great for what "I" wanted, but not everyone else...

Some wanted a membership only, some wanted to sell items, some wanted this that, etc etc... You get the picture. Different web site, different needs.

Of course no one wanted to program something for themselves, so I tried to accomodate them as the versions went up. Well, by the end of the year, I had this bloated / complicated portal.

Now I'm on the modular path... I really no longer have time for it, so others have taken over.

    ---------

Sorry to make a short story long, but the point of this one should be:

Make it simple - Fast - Easy to Use, and then allow modular capabilities to add everything else under the sun.

Don't try and make one program do it all.... Not everyone needs it ALL.

That's amazing... and they'll keep doing it. With other racers such as Ullrich, Hamilton, Julich, etc, this is going to be a great year to watch the race.

Sure this fella on Jepoardy is smart, but we don't know if the show is trumping it up, now do we?

I mean... we can get one smart guy, and keep getting dumb challengers, and hey... look... wow.. he DEFINATELY looks smart, and won't loose.

Can anyone say, "ratings"... I mean, on a bad channel, and a bad time... they need something right?

At least the tour isn't fake, and everyone is at the same level, going for the same goal.
