  1. Re:Why people cling to IE on Exploring Firefox Extensions · · Score: 1

    Good Lord!!!
IE for OS X is so incredibly broken it's not funny. Personally I think Firefox works well on OS X but if she doesn't that's fine. However, she should at least try out Safari.
They are both better than IE anyday.

What exactly is a Google-like search feature? I'm assuming they mean something like Spotlight.

These are theatrical releases of the extended editions. Not new DVD releases. The extended edition for the first film is already on DVD. The extended version of the second film will be on DVD in November.

If Freenet is at all helpful to those who distribute kiddie porn, then I do not wish to participate in it.

What about the internet, TCP/IP, image file formats, and computers? Or even cameras and artificial light? These all help the kiddie porn distributers. I'm willing to bet you use these. I'm not sure how else your comment would have gotten here.
Just about anything you do in life, that is of any public use, could be helping out someone you don't like. If you don't want to participate in anything that could remotely benefit a kiddie porn distributer then you better lock yourself up in a room somewhere.

Actually, I believe what happens is when you order something you are given access to it right away. The reciever then stores what you have ordered on the card and makes a call at some later time to tell DirecTV what to bill you for.
So you could order things without the phone line but I think the card has a limit of how many items you can order without it calling out.

  7. Why have coins? on Making Change · · Score: 1

I've always wondered why we don't just get rid of coins altogether? They are just a pain in the ass. They are heavier than bills and more likely to be lost.

The only advantage I see is for things like vending machines since bill readers suck. But I imagine that could be fixed.

Yes it remembers the exact spot.

As I said, in the older models you have to let it power-off by itself for this to work. Apparently in the new models this isn't a problem. I don't have a new one so I can't confirm this.

  9. Re:Data support, bookmarks on 60G Nomad Zen vs. The iPod · · Score: 1

Resuming is kind of there in the iPod. When you want to stop just pause the track and let the iPod turn itself off. When you turn it back on and press play you'll be right back where you were. Obviously this only works for the last track you were listening to. This works on the old iPods so I imagine things are the same on the new models.

I know this isn't exactly what you want but it's better than nothing (I guess)

Sure, you may buy for 100k and sell for 120k some years down the road, but you probably payed most of that 20k in interest by then anyways.
I don't understand. From what your saying :
    1. 100k now + 20k(interest) for x number of years
    2. In x number of years sell the house for 120k
So, when I sell the house, I will have had shelter for x number of years AND I will have the 120k that I spent on that housing. How is renting better?

I would imagine that with the increase of processing power, what we currently call embedded systems and real-time systems will not be coded in Assembly since the code won't need to be as fast. Assembly will stay around (in some form) since we will also make things smaller which will need to be more efficient.

So things will be as they are now but the programs that have to be written in Assembly today will not need to be in the future.

A JFS deals only with the file system. More specifically the file system's meta data (allocated blocks and such). It protects against the file system from being corrupted if the computer is suddenly shut down.
What this person wants is the ability to save the machine's current 'state'. This would include everything in RAM, the cache, the process stack etc. That way when the computer is rebooted the computer could be restored to the state it was in before shutdown. Running programs and all.
