    you're supposed to sit for months or years waiting on their "announced" product to ship and not buy what ever is on the market NOW. because everyone knows the MS thing will be so awesome it will be worth the wait

    and you know how the genius geeks love to wait while the dumb normal folk just buy whatever is in the store NOW

    everywhere

    talk to people from other countries and almost everyone has to take a series of exams in their senior year of high school where the score determines which college you go to, if you go to college at all. and unlike the US where a former illegal immigrant and fruit picker can go to harvard medical school and become one of the top neurosurgeons in the country, once you screw up your youth you screw up your life. no going to a good college later on

    the streaming costs are low enough that if the service goes away you won't care. and there are lots to choose from which makes it a non-issue

    the problem with owning is that there is too much music from the last 50 years worth owning and it takes up too much space in the house

    well we have a few thousand murders in the USA every year and last month there was one in florida where the perps googled how to kill someone right before they did it. add in all the drug dealers and organized crime and 20,000 per year is not a big deal

    Today it's the same thing except its called social media. Seems like every other idea I read about is a Facebook/pinterest/instagram clone

    Unless you have a cool idea that solves some kind of problem like square or one of the other payment startups go back and think up of something new

    performance wise ARM is crap compared to Intel. Just like Intel was crap compared to SPARC and all the other architectures they killed off in the last 30 years

    one of the most important rules of business is to protect the low end of your market. if you don't then a competitor will establish a lower margin business and move up to take your high end. Just like Intel did.

    even apple knows this and has products just good enough to keep low end competitors at bay

    i've had an iphone since 2009
    i have thousands of apps for it, even though i don't use them all
    there are some really crazy apps for iOS that do things no one imagined a few years ago
    iOS is well past cool upgrades and is now on the improving usability every year cycle
    Windows Phone is way behind
    a lot less app support
    its not cheaper
    Why switch? what is it going to do better than iOS?

    assembling a phone is the equivalent of playing with Lego's. its simple tedious work. why would i want my kids to aspire to this kind of work?

    the value is in owning and developing the OS, battery tech, screen tech, the communications standards as well as all the other IP and semiconductors that go into the phone. assembly is monkey work

    for most people they won't want to repair it. and the cost of paying someone plus the parts to repair it will be close enough to sell it for the parts and buy a new laptop

    So? for most people this will be powerful enough that they won't feel the need to upgrade it. Like most Acura/Lexus drivers they will buy this as a treat for themselves and not for any real need for all the computing power it has.

    its also a pretty good gaming machine and will probably steal a lot of alienware and other silly computer case company customers

    unless you're a digital hoarder who feels the need to keep more music and TV/movies than any reasonable person can watch in a lifetime hard drives are large enough. worst case i can buy an external drive to archive photos/videos of my kids.

    most people don't have mental/OCD issues where they will have to see some photo from years ago right away

    Apple has an enterprise deployment kit to deploy home grown apps to iOS devices without itunes

    and most of the crap that AD does like app security is being done by apple. if someone installs some app on the app store it won't screw up the device because each app has its own sandbox and can only access limited resources
