MS still doesn't get it, we are in the era of Good Enough Computing. my ipad 2 is not as powerful as my Lenovo, but i don't care. for a lot of things its more than good enough. most times i use my lenovo laptop the CPU is in the 5% range or less so it's not like i'm stressing it.
and the form factor of the ipad allows it to have applications that are not available on my laptop. Flipboard for one as well as lots of educational apps for kids
so is there an app like this for android? No? I thought so. the top selling android apps usually have something do to with sitting in a dark basement and rooting and tooting your device and being amazed by the cool cryptic text on the screen instead of doing something useful
i've read supposed idiot power users do all kinds of idiotic things over the years thinking they are geniuses. one guy on an MSI forum RMA'd every single part from his home build because the power supply wasn't working properly or something like that
and glitchy drivers can cause these things. first thing the user should have done was reinstall the OS to the way it came out of the box to see if the issues go away
for a while the theory was that if people always check in and post what they are buying and where then their friends will do the same. right up to the time when people got sick of "checking in" and people got sick of their facebook streams polluted by crap
i know its been almost 20 years but in those days that little circle in the bottom left of the desktop was a rectangle with the word Start on it. Windows 95 was the first time the Start button saw the light of day and was a big deal in GUI development at the time.
i like my iphone and ipad because of the cool apps. today i found one called eventster. it tells me all upcoming events around me. sure i can do this on a laptop by googling, but its automatic on my phone and ipad.
same with lots of other apps i have
selling some mutant laptop/tablet isnt going to make people run out and buy it. hyping paper specs will get a few people to buy it. having actual software that takes advantage of the form factor as well as how and when people use the device is what is going to drive sales
last year my oldest kid had pneumonia. 104 fevers for a few days. doctor swore it was a virus. then a trip to the ER and chest x-ray confirmed it was pneumonia.
doctor was right too because all the symptoms pointed to a virus because it showed up very early
seriously, the whole worthless continent is about to declare bankruptcy. its shocking considering that the July/August vacation months are coming up and half the countries there literally shut down for 2 months.
isnt it time the europeans started another war with each other? its been over 60 years. maybe this time we can change sides again and have the brits fighting the french again
most contracts like this will have enough stipulations to make it fairly easy to pull out if things go south. i bet oracle put in all kinds of conditions like minimum sales numbers, etc
to me the non-game stuff was the best part of the show. the latest shoot everyone till they are dead game is getting pretty old.
getting rid of extra crap i have and using the x-box for everything is something i'm looking forward to. few years ago i thought sony was going to do this, but once again sony screwed up
the second and third guy to do something is usually the successful one because historically the entrepreneur is stubborn and sticks to his narrow vision
easy, publish to amazon kindle, have free books every so often. this way you appear on one of the free kindle book lists that get updated daily and people will check out your work
in NYC a teacher that teaches in one of the most elite schools in the city was ranked one of the worst. reason her kids didn't improve from last year. they are already the best in the city but because they didn't improve she's a bad teacher
or what if all your kids never do homework and never study because their parents don't care?
the sweet spot for more Wintel users now is the $300 to $500 for a laptop. too bad dell and HP can't make any money at this price point.
Chrome computers are crap at this point. i have a CR-48 and hate it. i'm not paying close to $500 for a gimped computer that's a paperweight without internet access. my iphones and ipad have more functionality
a $600 macbook with a cheap ARM CPU will do almost everything a NORMAL user will want in a year or two. internet, basic photo editing and basic game playing and facebook. it just needs storage to keep all your photos and other crap
once apple releases a cheap macbook, watch out dell/hp/asus and others
it won't do photoshop, the midrange photo editing apps like lightroom, development and lots of other things but most people won't care
half the shady retailers are NYC shady electronics stores that my parents told me to avoid since the 80's. they are always "going out of business", sell grey market stuff and you never know if its really new

why not test it with a stock install?

if you want a good laptop, but apple
it's ^nix and you can do almost everything to fool around like in linux
and glitchy drivers can cause these things. first thing the user should have done was reinstall the OS to the way it came out of the box to see if the issues go away
was it really a hardware defect or maybe the linux drivers don't work as well?
Mac's hold their value so well that its better to sell and buy a new Mac than to keep and treasure a computer for many years and upgrade it

i remember those. they were close to $3000 and no useful software to take advantage. and they were big and heavy compared to tablets.

doctor was right too because all the symptoms pointed to a virus because it showed up very early
the computer will make the same mistakes

i think the study used real coffee. not the crap like Folgers which is 1/3 tree bark and full of crazy chemicals to hide the crappy taste
other than having every single device have a unique public IP that is a wet dream for google and other marketers?

the penetration rate of tablets and smartphones is a lot higher than proprietary x-box keyboards that will just add to clutter around the house
and alfred sloan copied ford? what's your point?

Facebook doesn't own my data, I still have all my photos I uploaded
And it's not like I'm going to do a mass upload if I switch to another network
Facebook is the network. Seem like every other site or mobile app uses Facebook for authentication. It's like what openid was supposed to be
no sh1t
