    the reason cable bills go up and no one has a choice of channels is because Disney, Discovery, Viacom and everyone else constantly raise prices and only offer their channels in one big bundle. and always add more channels.

    when a channel is blacked out on their TV people always blame comcast or direct TV. they should be blaming the channel owner for wanting too much money and not giving any choice of channels.

    comcast might not be a saint, but a bigger comcast will mean that any time a channel owner wants a price increase they risk losing more than half their revenue during the blackout. in the past they would pick a small carrier for the price raise since the effect on revenues was pennies

    i remember when cable internet first came out i the 90's it was like $100 for 1mbps
    now it's like $50 for 20mbps on time warner

    at this point broadband prices will increase some. the customer base is maxed out. very little new customers out there. and costs are increasing with salary raises, etc

    probably because bejeweled is based on another game as well and it has enough differences to survive a court challenge. i played candy crush for a bit and it was a lot of things i found lacking in bejeweled

    there used to be lots of board games made by different companies where the basic mechanic was to roll the dice, move, collect some card or so whatever and no one was ever sued because the differences are different enough

    lots of Civ/Sim City clones in the app store as well. Clash of clans is one. they are all different enough since you can't make a civilization/city building game and sue people for the concept

    anyone can download and fork android
    anyone except those licensing google apps and if you do license google apps you can't put any other third party search or location services other than google
    and downloading android does not make an android phone since you still need to write drivers and ship it with some services for a user to use the device

    if you look at the historic snowfall for NYC, we are in the average zone now
    last few years we have had the snowfall in one or two huge storms, but this year its averaged over weeks

    go look at the data for the late 1800's pre global warming times. average for NYC is in the 40' for inches of snow. which is what we are at now

    the global warming nuts scream catastrophe no matter what kind of weather we have which is why no one listens to them anymore

    i believe dropbox has an auto upload feature that you can limit to wifi. set up a client on the PC and it will sync the photos there. then just copy them to another folder on the hard drive. google drive should do the same

    evil apple has photo sync where you can set up icloud on a PC and have it sync photos as well. very easy to use. just set up icloud on your iphone and the icloud PC client. if you have a macbook then iphoto will just grab your photos out of icloud when you open it up

    i use iphoto on a Macbook with my galaxy note 3. imports photos when i plug it in and open iphoto
    adobe has a cheapo $80 range program as well, can't remember the name. for $120 i think they will sell you the photo and video editing apps together

    the USA had credit cards first
    any time you are first you build up a system and its hard to change. if you adopt a tech later in its lifecycle you go with the latest tech at the time

    a few years ago a small aircraft crashed into a NYC apartment building and killed someone because the pilot had a heart attack or was disoriented or something

    if you're flying around i a dangerous machine and put people at risk no reason why you shouldn't have to live up to some standards

    they sell lots of overpriced software like Cognos that is a huge PITA to set up, use, support and you need a maintenance contract since the documentation is crappola

    dozens and dozens of other business software that they sell including 2 different database products that no one seems to use.

    having worked in the government before, half the problems were people insisting their ancient programs work on the new systems and a refusal to change to current versions

    i remember i had people saying that they can't use anything other than Lotus or Wordperfect. then complained they couldn't open MS Word documents

    yeah, but for the last 20 years or so CDN's have paid the ISP's money for the traffic they send. Netflix is saying they don't want to pay anything if you sign up for Open Connect

    and verizon isn't throttling anything, they are simply not upgrading their circuit after a huge spike in traffic

    netflix has never been transmitted across the internet, they have always used a content delivery network to stage content close to the users. like every other big internet company for the last 20-30 years.
    a few years ago netflix got a sweet deal from a CDN provider looking to get into the business who tried to pass off netflix CDN traffic as peered traffic
    now that the contracts have expired netflix is trying to lower its costs since CDN's can be expensive and netflix is all about being CHEAP. and pushing its own CDN under the condition they don't pay any fees like every other CDN company out there

    if you search on the internet, netflix is pushing it's own CDN with the condition that they don't pay the regular CDN fees. most of the big ISP's haven't signed on which is why netflix is slow on their networks. the pipes to the CDN provider are probably maxed out like the issue with Cogent a few years ago

    business scuffle with two companies trying to lower their costs of business. not like netflix is the angel here either.

    unless its really 99% of their grads are hired for real software jobs which i don't believe they need to be truthful. every school that hypes a placement rate always has some small print that shows the 90% number is a small percentage of sampled students

    and then you have something like printers. sure it's only $100 or $250 but no one wants to buy a new printer just to buy a new wifi router

    if you want to make your own smartphone you already have to license lots of patents controlled by the standards bodies

    anything else you just have to design your own antenna, phone frame and dozens of other parts of the phone yourself and patent it yourself

    the oldest one doesn't like to clean up so one time i grabbed some of the toys he doesn't like that much and threw them in the trash right in front of him. he was cleaning his junk off the floor for the next hour

    at least here in NYC i see lots of American young kids spending insane amounts of money in rent to live in the trendy and hip neighborhoods to spend even more money on overpriced alcohol at bars and whatever

    the immigrants are the ones who own the million dollar homes in the best school zones here in places lots of new yorkers have never heard of
