    Mine always has the iPhone free app and media codes. I grab a bunch for the Dunkin donuts people I know in exchange for game of thrones

    And since the wheel chair ramp is through the Starbucks, I have to go to the bookstore if I have my kid with me in the stroller

    I change the background color to cream in the daytime and black at night
    The white hurts my eyes after a while

    My mom has an iPad 4 for reading and loves it. Even with her inch thick glasses. Never complains of eye strain

    Last paper book I tried to read was game of thrones, six months ago
    Gave up around page 80 and bought the kindle version of the five book bundle

    I read on my iPad and laptop and only buy kindle versions. Amazon is like steam, lots of sales. Make a list of books and check the prices and buy for $5 when they go on sale

    SMS? cool and expensive last decade. now most new cell phone plans offer unlimited SMS. same with prepaid.
    most new cell phone plans offer unlimited minutes in the USA to any phone as well. no point in using google voice to save your day time minutes

    i dumped my land line phone a long time ago because my cell phone is unlimited minutes. unlimited SMS means i have lots of subscriptions like NYC Subway text alerts coming into my phone.

    i've had google voice for years and rarely use anymore

    no one cares about you carrying around ripped music and movies

    i've traveled around the world and from all the nonsense you read about US law enforcement i've had less trouble at US Customs than almost anywhere in the world. including Europe.

    california is expensive as well but they have ridiculous tax breaks for R&D which make starting a tech company profitable. i bet NYC and NY State have similar tax breaks.

    i drive a little almost every day and there are two types of drivers i hate

    the asswipes who speed dangerously, run red lights and take risks to save a few seconds here and there. unless autonomous cars are required i don't see people like this buying these.
    the cautious pricks. the idiots who stop when there is no stop sign just to be extra careful and let everyone on the road go in front of them holding up traffic. these people might buy these cars

    if the cautious pricks buy these, they will be easy to go around since the auto cars will be extra careful. and driving in some heavy NYC traffic, the last thing i want is an auto car that lets everyone go in front of me. you have to pay attention to the lanes and go into the faster moving lanes

    the Naval and Air Force Academies are some of the best engineering schools in the world. You have to be in the top 5% or higher in your high school class to even be considered to attend. and they have phd's as well

    most of the people complaining in the USA about broadband live out in the exuburbs or rural areas and want the gubment to pay for the infrastructure

    and on career day in high school the garbage man had an awesome story. take a test, pick up trash for 2 years and then get some other job with the NY Dept of Sanitation. and the pay was awesome with no student loans

    Out in the burbs they have separate residential and commercial areas. So it's unlikely you will be out and about and get free wifi everywhere

    Alexander almost always fought outnumbered. The Romans have won many battles outnumbered. same with the USA.

    training, discipline, quality of weapons, intelligence and other factors trump raw numbers

    what's the big deal?
    i'm old enough to remember the nuclear cold war and as soon as it finished the french and other allies started spying on us commercially
    everyone spies on each other. you do it even if you don't plan on going to war. you do it so that when you negotiate you know how much to give and what to ask for.

    the 80's Superman wasn't all that good, i remember it very well. the USA was still in the idiotic Good guy vs bad guy phase

    and there is no way a crappy pirated copy is in any way equivalent to seeing the movie in a decent theater.
